As for the movie:

Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy?

I mean. The movie... just... I want to forget I ever saw it.

Remember back when Star Wars episodes 1 - 3 came out? All these Star Wars nerds were sooooo horrified at midichlorians and just episodes 1 - 3 ( Read more... )

Haha, thanks.

Whoever thought it was a good idea to put the monkey sequence in there sure was smoking something.

Probably Lucas...

So basically I wish I'd seen Iron Man again instead.
I feel this is something that will become part of my viewing experience. WHY DIDN'T I JUST WATCH IRON MAN AGAIN.

I caught the late show with friends the other night.

Iron Man had (moderately) better dialogue and snappy character interactions, but the action sequences were poor; Indiana Jones had some fun, old-fashioned action (I'm thinking of the extended jungle chase/anthills/slugfest sequence--I admit, I liked it) but the dialogue was mostly bad and the string of improbable coincidences in the script were wince-inducing (it was like watching National Treasure II again. *SHUDDER* I EXPECT BETTER OF THE INDY FRANCHISE.). I wish I could take the good parts of each movie and somehow combine them.

I did like the scene where Indy survives atomic testing. Clever, funny, and unsettling way of setting the time period for the audience (we have definitely left the Art Deco and WWII years behind and have entered the streamlined, paranoid, but upbeat 1950s).

As far as summer flicks go, I'm giving the crown at this point to Prince Caspian. The final battle sequence was a pale echo of Peter Jackson's glorious achievement in LotR, but OMG, REAL ( ... )

Really? I really, really liked the Iron Man action sequences. I mean... there weren't many of them by comparison, but I felt more tension in them than I really did in the sum total of the Indy action scenes.

Well, and as for Indy, I DID like the old-fashioned action... and the action sequences were very much in the tone of the old Indy films... as you said, that much was fun. It's just that the rest of it was... yeah, wince-inducing. At times, I really did feel like I was watching Peter vs. the Chicken. Or that movie about the Civil War ironclad in the middle of the Sahara desert. Haha.

(I gotta say that I LOVED the army ants.)

I hated the scene where he survives the atomic testing, though...

I haven't seen Prince Caspain yet. I found the first movie kinda dull, and the second movie hasn't looked much better, but a number of friends of mine have said that it's better than the first movie. I might see it in the next few weeks.

There was something off about the editing during the action scenes in Iron Man--I've only seen it once, but it seemed to me that certain cuts came a second too late, or a second too soon. As a result, the tension didn't build up properly (for me, at least). And--worst sin of all for a summer movie to commit--the special effects felt tired and sub-par. I thought that the final battle scenes were dull (but I absolutely loved Robert Downey Jr. in the role, so I can't say that the movie was a total disappointment).

Did you catch the trailer for Hell Boy II: The Golden Army? Visually speaking, it looks good (I am a big fan of Pan's Labyrinth and I like Guillermo del Torro's unique, nightmarish fantasy. The man knows his Goya.).

I found the first movie kinda dull, and the second movie hasn't looked much better, but a number of friends of mine have said that it's better than the first movie. I might see it in the next few weeks.Well, I also went into it with very low expectations. I'd recommend keeping yours low as well, and you may ( ... )

Who knows, maybe you can lower your expectations enough to kinda enjoy it!? It didn't work for me, though. Woeeee.

Though a couple of the friends that watched it with me really liked it.

I have heard about it, and my reaction was "*yawn*, aliens". I do however have a question, because those of my friends who have seen it, wondered how a certain scene would work out in the original English version. (Germany dubbs it all) Maybe, you remember the scene when Indy has lost his job and considers new opportunities. Which university does he mention? In the German dub, he mentions Leipzig.

I do remember it being Leipzig. Or actually I remember it being a German university, but now that you mention "Leipzig," yes, that's what it was.

That's very amusing, because Lepzig is a part of Eastern Germany, and we, the friends who had watched the movie and me, were wondering if there could be room for an AU in which Indy goes to Leipzig as a CIA agent. ^^
