Aaand, Wendla was outside again. She'd only meant to take a brisk walk because it was quite chilly in recent days. It was windy, too, and the wind had taken her hat away, making Wendla chase it down the path, laughing a little to herself.

She was reaching up to pluck the hat out of its path when she saw it. A single white snowflake.

Moritz, likewise, had a hat covering his crazy hair. He had been sitting on his porch until he noticed the snowflakes.

He went out to investigate, hoping to run into some of his childhood friends.

Martha was walking around, enjoying the crisp air, and the first few snowflakes of winter, when she noticed a young woman staring at the snow in bewilderment.
Martha had never seen her before, so on her quest to meet new people, she decided to say hello.
"Hello," she said, "I don't think we've met."
