On being a man...

Of course most of you have noticed in the recent past I've begun working on trying to become more of a man, and I've been doing this because of the influences of the strong, powerful men in my life - past and present. Say what you will about the idea of being a strong, powerful, manly man (and God help me I know some of you will) but I've been ( Read more... )

if it's good enough for my mom..., moving forward by moving back, carving zeds, calm-am-it-tea, and to all a good knight, his imperial highness, pompous tomfoolery, appropriate song selections, lust and food and violence, (the) epic win, i'm not bulletproof, an officer and a gentleman, made of "love" and "awesome", you make loving fun, clothes make the man

I'm not overly sure about cold water shaving though.

Misandry is hatred of men, Ash - don't be condescending and don't pretend I'm one of your little examples of people misusing words to hate on women or whine they're being mistreated.

I'm really glad to see you missed the point entirely, though.

And really, I'm "zen" enough to ignore the things that you say that offend me, if you can't be "zen" then by all means, make good on your threat.

No, but we have personal misandry, and yes it exists, and clearly we have differing views on the subject and we don't need to scream at each other for the internet.

And I like you very much for just about everything but when you walk into a conversation deciding already you're going to be offended. I'm not ever going to give you the boot regardless of the circumstances, and that's that.

If you define being a good human being as being a manly, then I am all for it.

There aren't many of you out there.

I'm on board with this. I got a little thrill the first time I saw Kevin's closet and realized he valued dressing well.

I've liked artofmanliness.com since one of my friends mentioned they did a post on how to shave with a straight razor. I guess I was early on that train (I bought one for Laurel's birth dad the first year we were married), but never have I felt more like a badass than the times I shaved my legs with my own straight razor.

I like the term retrosexual. It conjures up images of old-fashioned gentlemen and steampunks rubbing elbows and having a pint amiably.

Oh Oh...hey...you're in the states... you could get me a safety razor if I sent you money...right?

Like a Merkur? Indeed. I am quite comfortable shopping for razors and enjoy sniffing shaving soaps (my favorite is Col. Conk's almond; it's softer than many soaps but it smells wonderful).

I like Art of Manliness. I read it, and I'm not a man. I like it a lot better than Maxim and AskMen.com.
