So it's Christmas Season here in the Philippines, which means one thing:

The cinemas are full of shit. Why? Because the Metro Manila Film Festival is in town.

Now don't get me wrong, I love Pinoy films. While I am a bit of a film snob, I can certainly appreciate the odd slapstick comedy or brainless action flick. I just hate the fact that the ( Read more... )

i saw mano po 6 last night. epic lulz! the whole theater was laughing. if we ever have a major drought, we should just ask sharon cuneta to cry because that's all she did from start to finish. i have to say though that ciara sotto was the only notable performance especially in her little speech. ngl, i got teary-eyed.

couldn't say i wasted money watching it. i watched it for free haha.

But did somebody pay for your ticket? If so, why did they send money towards Mother Lily? :(

every year, i make it a point to watch at least one MMFF entry, just to make up for all the pirated dvds i buy all year. haha. this year, i chose panday. well, my cousin actually did. and i want to kill her for that.

philip salvador pretty much made a miserable imitation of heath ledger's joker. the special effects are decent though.

i think ill give mano po 6 a try.

I still find it rather amusing that I hear about good Filipino movies through international film festivals.

Not a surprise - the people responsible for MMFF (the mayors of Metro Manila, plus various government/business people, and mall owners) wouldn't know quality if it sat on their face and fucked it.

Also the only good movies that come out have been mostly indie efforts - even Kimmy Dora was only possible because a bunch of actors bankrolled a dream project of one of their own who deserved a break.
