Now I know a lot of you are going to say, oh, yeah, her, I've read her forever.

But I hadn't. Not until several of y'all pushed, prodded, and generally coerced me into trying her. (What, a romance writer? Ehwww...) But I did, yes. She is that good.

So I just finished Devil's Cub, the sequel to The Nonesuch. And I was giggling madly, just ( Read more... )

Oooo! Go thou, and seek out The Toll Gate, and A Civil Contract. Although it may be hard to find them. Harlequin's reprinted several, but they're not always on the store shelves. I'm about to resort to amazon.uk...

Oooh, goodie, thanks! *adds to list* Borders has had a fairly decent group of them, and I know I've seen A Civil Contract there...

Isn't Devil's Cub wonderful? OMG, I was so in love with Vidal when I was in high school. Well, I think I still am :) I can recite large chunks of that book I've read it so often. That scene with Mary and Avon is so perfect, isn't it? BTW, Mary and Vidal make a brief appearance in An Infamous Army as the grandparents of the book's heroine.

I'll second Rabidsamfan's rec of The Toll Gate. That's one of my favorites. It's a shame Heyer's labeled a 'romance writer' and (as you know from the books I sent you) her books end up with some awful generic romance book covers. If you ever get into collecting her, the original Heinemann hardcovers have lovely elegant Regency dustjackets- much more suitable to her writing.

So so happy you are enjoying her books!

Heh - the covers, I know what you mean. The cover of The Grand Sophy, the one you sent me, was especially egregious, I think. I was reading it at work, and trying to convince others how wonderful it was, but I could see them eye the cover and go, "Riiiiight...".

I definitely want more of the Avon crew, of any generation, so I'll add that one too, and of course The Toll Gate.

Major snogs for getting me hooked on her!

My favorite of all is Cotillion. I didn't like it so much back in high school when I first discovered her, but it has grown and grown on me. Interestingly, the main male character is named Freddy, and I think you'd find much in common with your Freddy.

I only just read Heyer for the first time last year, and I too found her a delight. Will have to look into that one!
