There were four discarded attempts at what looked like a shark (or quite possibly a dolphin). There was one rather adorable stuffed octopus. There was one baby mobile frame, decorated in blues and greens and coral reds. And there was one sullen teenager sat at a table muttering quite loudly about Stupid Boys and their even stupider girlfriends. ( Read more... )

Coraline looked up at the nickname, making a face at Luke before popping her finger out of her mouth.

"Luke, you know how I didn't want you and Percy fighting? Well... I changed my mind." Coraline said seriously. "If you want to punch him in his stupid face then feel free."

"It's gross, she looks like Thalia and he was kissing her. Kissing her!" Coraline said making a face at the thought. It was just... gross. Definitely gross. And nothing else. "And then she grabbed me from behind and then Percy got angry at me for no reason. And now I'm not talking to him... so you should punch him in the face."

"Holy crap, is that a shark-dolphin crossbreed?" Sam asked as he came up on where Coraline was sitting working on the mobile. "Because that would be the most feared ocean animal ever."

Sam hadn't failed to notice that Coraline had been in a bit of a mood ever since he came across her running away from class back in October. He supposed at this point it was a full on phase. But Coraline was still Coraline, and she was his friend. Plus, he still liked her, she was still a good person.

"It... is? I guess it is, it was supposed to be a dolphin. Do you want one? I've got loads," Coraline said pushing some of the finished shark-dolphins across to Sam sulkily. "Sam, why are boys stupid? Like not you, you don't count but other boys, stupid ones. With their stupid faces."

"Yeah, that would be cool," he said, reaching over to grab one of the dolphin-shake things. It would look pretty good in his hut, especially since he didn't really have anything else up in his hut.

Her question though, caught him off guard. He was really not the best person for this. He was potentially one of the worst.

"Well, uh, faces are pretty much genetic, so... not much to be done about that. But, you know- boys are stupid about girls. And because of hormones. And because they try and be all cool and macho in ways that really, really aren't. I mean, I wasn't like that or anything, but that's what I say other guys doing."

If Sam didn't have anything up in his hut, he probably would've been a bit overwhelmed by Coraline's room. There were toys, books, wellies, pieces of sculpture, wood carvings, intricate pieces of furniture made for her, jewellery... Coraline's room was filled with her life. And she always carried half of it in her bag.

"Hormones? Isn't there like some medicine I can give them to stop being stupid?" Coraline asked curiously. "Well, it's not cool or macho it's just stupid. And I hope you don't kiss Cassie and writhe about in the snow where anyone can see it's just gross."

Dressed in his Civil War officer's uniform, Aidan spotted the blue-haired girl from a good distance away. He hadn't talked to Coraline much, but he was always glad to see her. In a place filled with unique individuals, he had to admit that she was one of the most unique.

"I know the clothes are uncomfortable," he said as he got closer. "But you really do look gorgeous in it. What are you making?"

"Baby mobile, it's for George and his baby. George is really nice, he talked to me about some...things. You know boy stuff," Coraline said not looking up at Aidan as she concentrated on turning the shark-dolphin out so she could stuff it. Biting her lip, she blew her hair out of her face as she concentrated before looking up at Aidan.

Oh... Oh.

"George is a nice guy," Aidan said with a nod. He didn't really know him all that well, but he knew that he was Josh, or like Josh, so he didn't doubt that he was a good guy.

"And that really is a good job," he said, sitting down next to her at the table. "I'm sure the baby will love it."

"George is awesome. I thought he was you know really stuffy and stuff but he's not, he's really sweet and he makes time to answer my questions. So, he's a really nice guy." Coraline said with a smile. "I hope so. Harry really liked hers..."

Coraline pressed her lips together, ducking her head so she could concentrate on stuffing it and not on her little sister.

Prior to a few days ago, Valkyrie didn't hate anyone on the island. Then she had actually met Coraline Jones. "Little snot" was probably the kindest phrase she could use to describe the girl. "Horrendous bitch" would have been closer to her actual feelings. So when she saw the blue hair, her first instinct was to just get away. She doubted that she could make the situation worse though, and she had seen how much Coraline's reaction had hurt Percy. And while Percy was well meaning, he was also a stupid boy and probably not up to dealing with early-teen girls.

With a shawl pulled over one of her favorite Victorian outfits she carefully approached the girl, making sure to walk into her line of sight from directly in front of her.

"Hey," she said, rubbing the back of her neck. "Can we talk?"

"Well, I can't exactly say no. Can I?" Coraline said, pointing up at the mistletoe that was holding Coraline hostage. Coraline sighed, scrunching up her face. She wasn't really angry at her but she was still angry at Percy. Percy and his stupid not!Thalia kissing lips. "I'm sorry about before... I thought you were someone else. Someone bad."

"Oh," she said, glancing up at the mistletoe and scrunching up her nose. At least the girl was a captive audience, although she seemed to be calmed down by now and not the huge bitch she had been earlier. Valkyrie just might have to amend her opinion about the girl.

At the mention of her being someone bad though, Valkyrie felt her stomach lurch. What if the girl was from her world, in a future where Darquesse got control?

"Who- who did you think I was?" she asked.

"My Other Mother," Coraline said simply, sighing. "She likes to kill and eat children. She's got cold hands and she's not very happy with me since I chopped off her hand."

Danny's going to start tallying up how many times he's doing this -- and how many times he's doing this for people he thinks of as family. He tips his head to the side, listening to the diatribe coming out of her lips and standing well-back as he crosses his arms over his chest. "I'm not sure I should let you go," he informs her. "For one, those are some awfully mean things you're saying. And for two, you're one good rainfall away from looking like Violet Beauregard."

"It's not mean if they're true and teenage boys are stupid and gross. They kiss girls in the snow and writhe and it's gross Dadd- Danny." Coraline said scrunching up her face as she turned the shark creature inside out. Looking at the other vague shark-dolphin shapes Coraline picked the best looking one before she began to stuff it. She probably should have stuck to fish. "What do you mean? Why would I look like Violet Beauregard if I got rained on?"

"It's mean and I won't stand for it," Danny warns, considering that if ever he heard Grace going off like this, there would've been some severe consequences going on. He leans in and flips at the ends of her hair. "This. Didn't anyone tell you that certain colors run more than others?"

"But he- he-" Coraline humphed, leaning forward onto the table sulkily. This was all stupid Percy's fault kissing strange girls in the snow. Ugh. "No. It hasn't run yet. Maybe I should just cut it all off then everyone would stop staring at me."
