All the movies made turning sixteen seem magical, like the world could be falling apart around her but as long as she had the cake and the candles, everything would be okay for just a little while. Instead, her birthday had gone in fits and starts, starting high and then seeming to tank all over again. Sure, she’d gotten the car, and that had been ( Read more... )

Daphne didn't hear Bay calling her name, of course. Her eyes worked just fine, though. She had just gotten a cotton candy and was about to head toward the games for a while when she saw Bay, standing off to the side and looking panicked. "...Bay?"

And of course, of all the people she'd called it was Daphne. Bay couldn't decide if that was inconvenient or somehow fitting and she stuffed the scarf into her pocket and raised both her hands to sign as she spoke. "Daphne?" she repeated her name and namesign back at her, as if Bay didn't quite believe who she was seeing. "Did my mom go really overboard or am I just out of my mind right now?"

"Neither," Daphne answered. "This is going to sound really weird, okay?" She didn't bother signing as she spoke. "You're on an island, and no one knows how we got here or how to get home. And there are superheroes and goddesses and strange stuff happens. Like random carnivals appearing overnight out of nowhere." She waved a hand vaguely at their surroundings. "I've been here for over two months."

Bay tried to listen and understand but Daphne, the sane and reasonable one, was telling her something so completely outlandish that Bay sort of stared at her, mouth just short of hanging open. "So...basically. I am on Lost. Lost, gone drunk."

Bella was just coming from the game area where she'd actually managed to win something, an adorable little stuffed dragon. She was still laughing about it since it reminded her of her conversation with Felicity about dragons just the other day. Now she had one and he'd make a great additon to her room. And it needed it. The place gave new meaning to the word bland.

She stopped walking, though, when she saw a girl about her age just ahead of her and approached, stopping a little bit in front of her.

"I know that look. I'm pretty sure I was wearing it myself about a month ago."

Right. Okay. So now she'd been kidnapped to Magic Island and the second person she met? Bella Freakin' Swann. Because of course the cast of Twilight would show up, why not? Why the hell not. Bay tried not to stare just because fictional characters were asking how she was doing.

"The 'Welcome to Kooky Magic Island' look? I heard it was the latest in Paris."

Her smile was immediate; she was nothing but appreciative of a good sense of sarcasm. "That's something I haven't heard this place called, but it fits. Especially with this," she waved a hand to indicate the automated games and vendors behind her, "turning up overnight. I'm guessing you're very new here, like just arrived new?"

"Yeah, I guess if I had to get kidnapped on my birthday, at least I got a corndog for my trouble, right?" Bay said, smiling tightly. It was all just so weird right now.

It was probably not really fair for Cissie to go around and play all the shooting games considering the enormous advantage she had, but she didn't care. At this rate, the Treehouse was going to be stuffed with adorable little plushies that she'd won for herself and Bart and that was just awesome.

She caught side of the girl and wondered if she was new or just amazed at all the carnival stuff. Figuring it was maybe a little of both, she wandered over to her and with a friendly smile. "Hi! How are you doing?"

And here Bay was thinking she'd done herself proud when she scored the corn dog but no, this girl seemed to have a whole menagerie of stuffed animals. Maybe Bay ought to give it a try too.

"I am, uh, doing confused? But I guess not bad. I mean there is definitely no lack in festive air and huge confusion so, yeah, doing just fine."

"You totally just got here, didn't you?" Cissie asked sympathetically. Yeah, that was definitely the combination of 'oh my god island' and 'oh my god amusement park' going on.

She smiled and reminded herself not to overwhelm the new girl like she had with Trip. She had to take it slow, remember that not everyone was used to this sort of thing. "I'm Cissie. Did you get the welcome speech yet?"

"Yeahhh. Is there a sticker that Daphne put on my forehead or do I just look that confused?" Bay asked, brushing fingers over her forehead just to check.

"Yeah, I showed up and there was someone from home and it's still...pretty weird."

"Daphne?" The mention of the name turned Kon's head. "Yeah, I just saw her a little while ago." He frowned. "At least if we're talking about the same person. Blonde, deaf?" He assumed she could hear since she spoke normally, but he was going to feel like a real idiot if she either didn't know the person he was talking about or she was deaf herself. Well, he was committed now.

Out of habit, Bay immediately made the sign for happy, formed with a D, Daphne's name sign. "That Daphne?" she asked. Knowing Daphne, she'd have taught everyone her name sign right away.

Kon nodded. "That Daphne." His hands lifted and started to sign as he gave her a curious look. "You can hear me, though, right?" Might as well do the signs just in case. His foot was rapidly approaching his mouth. "I'd hate to think that you couldn't and had to read my lips when I'm perfectly capable of signing."

"Yeah, I'm Bay," she replied, adding her name sign to go with it. If he knew Daphne, she might as well keep up the habit, right? "And yeah, hearing."
