All the movies made turning sixteen seem magical, like the world could be falling apart around her but as long as she had the cake and the candles, everything would be okay for just a little while. Instead, her birthday had gone in fits and starts, starting high and then seeming to tank all over again. Sure, she’d gotten the car, and that had been ( Read more... )

It was probably not really fair for Cissie to go around and play all the shooting games considering the enormous advantage she had, but she didn't care. At this rate, the Treehouse was going to be stuffed with adorable little plushies that she'd won for herself and Bart and that was just awesome.

She caught side of the girl and wondered if she was new or just amazed at all the carnival stuff. Figuring it was maybe a little of both, she wandered over to her and with a friendly smile. "Hi! How are you doing?"

And here Bay was thinking she'd done herself proud when she scored the corn dog but no, this girl seemed to have a whole menagerie of stuffed animals. Maybe Bay ought to give it a try too.

"I am, uh, doing confused? But I guess not bad. I mean there is definitely no lack in festive air and huge confusion so, yeah, doing just fine."

"You totally just got here, didn't you?" Cissie asked sympathetically. Yeah, that was definitely the combination of 'oh my god island' and 'oh my god amusement park' going on.

She smiled and reminded herself not to overwhelm the new girl like she had with Trip. She had to take it slow, remember that not everyone was used to this sort of thing. "I'm Cissie. Did you get the welcome speech yet?"

"Yeahhh. Is there a sticker that Daphne put on my forehead or do I just look that confused?" Bay asked, brushing fingers over her forehead just to check.

"Yeah, I showed up and there was someone from home and it's still...pretty weird."

"It's the face," Cissie explained. "You have that 'oh my god, what is going on' face. I know I had it too when I got here and I've seen it on other new people." She probably had caused that look a few times herself but that was besides the point.

"It's good to know that you got the speech from someone you knew already," she added. "I kind of think that helps, you know? I had friends here too and I've talked to a few people who didn't have anyone and it was really rough."

"In my defense, this situation is pretty deserving of The Face," Bay said, pointing at her face and tracing a circle in the air with her finger. "Not to mention apparently I came when the weird factor was up by ten but hey...they have fried peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Wrong and sick, yet melty."

"Hey, I'm totally not arguing with you," Cissie said with a grin, holding her hands up the air. "Being taken to a weird island with inexplicable amusement park rides and games is worthy of the face."

"I'm Cissie by the way," she added, holding out her hand.

"Bay Kennish." And, since Daphne was here, Bay formed the letter 'B' with her right hand and drew a wavy line in the air with her hand, following the waves of her hair. "And if you ever run into Daphne, that's my name in sign language."

Cissie copied the sign carefully. Her sign language skills weren't as good as they probably should be, but that was what practice was for, right? "Gotcha. I've seen her around a few times, I think. She's one of Kon's friends. Which, by the way, as a friend of his, I feel like I should tell you that it is okay to roll your eyes and smack him. He flirts with everything. He really can't help it."

Bay smiled crookedly, "Well if you see someone who's blonde, blue-eyed, deaf and yet inhumanly perfect. That's her. And who's Kon?"

There was something a little weird about that but Cissie didn't want to pry. It wasn't really any of her business and if Bay wanted to tell her what was up, then she would.

"He's the tall, dark-haired, looks an awful lot like Superman one. He is really good guy, though, and one of my very best friends."

"Hey, if you've got a friend who looks like Superman, can't be all bad, right?" Bay pointed out with a grin. The idea of sharing friends with Daphne felt a little strange, but their small world had gotten even smaller and she supposed she'd have to expect it.

"Superman's here too, but it's really weird because he's not Superman yet and he's from a whole different universe and I know I'm babbling and probably confusing you more so I'll stop," Cissie said, ducking her head sheepishly.

"So kinda like Smallville--unless you're from a universe without Smallville, in which case never mind?" For all she knew, it was just that. And that was just confusing. "Yeah, don't worry about confusing me. I'm already there so I might as well get the full haul, right?"

Cissie blinked. "Smallville, like where Kon and Clark lived? That Smallville?"

"Yeah, um, it's the name of a show in my world. About superheroes. And stuff." Yes. That was totally convincing and not at all fishy and she was probably talking to a superhero and way to go Bay!
