It started with a rumble that barely shook the ground. A few people near the beach might have thought it was a minor earthquake, at first. Soon, they would have noticed that it had more of a rhythm than any earthquake ( Read more... )

Since a few mornings ago, when she'd discovered the hula hoops in the games closet, tried them, and discovered that it was a much more dangerous activity than she'd been led to believe, Quorra had been spending most of her time learning how to control her newfound power. A sad number of trees had been lost in the process, but she had so far managed to avoid slicing into any living things on her way to mastering the motion that sent blasts of burning plasma flying from her body.

Until now, when there was a very clear threat to the island, and she thought she could help. No hula hoop required.

[Quorra's power is this.]

"Woaaah, we have a squirter," Hank congratulated with a few slow claps and a charming grin. It was perhaps a more chipper reaction than most people had when two giant monsters were fighting to the death in the background, but Hank hated being a party pooper.

"If I got in real close, you think you could make the hoop go around us both?" He was only half-kidding.

Dodge had been having a good time with his sparkles. He spent the weekend making noises of varying loudness to see what he could do. After that loud explosion at the hub that had made him break the glass he took Rachel's advice and was very careful about handling his junk.

He didn't figure sparkles and glass shattering was all that interesting by today and he went out to do something other than watch his stupid fingers. He was minding his own business when a shadow fell across him. He looked up and saw fuckin' Godzilla and just about shit himself. But then the monster roared loudly and Dodge couldn't control the giant fuckin' laser beam that shot from his hand and cut down three threes. They crashed to the ground and Dodge was torn between staring at his hand, the trees, and the monster.

"Cool," he said, then looked up as a giant damn moth went flying by. He'd seen this movie. Monster battle. This shit...this shit he had to see, even if it meant lasers. He went rushing closer and soon saw others had had the same idea.

[Dodge could ( ... )

There was an anxious pit in Cissie's stomach and for once, it wasn't related to her stomach. There just had to be monsters to go with the super power weekend, didn't there? Like the time with that robot, she knew she couldn't just stand aside or hide during all of this. She knew how to fight even if she didn't want to risk breaking her bow by pulling it too quickly and more importantly, she had experience in this sort of thing. She couldn't take either one down by herself, speedster or not but she could lend support.

"Okay," she said to herself as she glanced around. "I should probably not do what Impulse would do and just hope that someone comes along to help while I do my stuff but I can't just wait and let them keep advancing, either."

This would be so much easier if everyone had communicators.

Helena had gone for her crossbow the minute she - and everyone else - realized something was up. Watching the freaking monsters coming towards shore, she was damned glad she had. What the hell was with this? Superpowers, monsters - what would be next? She'd wanted something to fight, but monsters weren't exactly her specialty.

Still, she was there - backed up almost to the tree line, her newfound power blending her into her surroundings. She watched not just the oncoming monsters but the growing crowd, looking for familiar faces. The one she spotted wasn't quite who she was looking for, but she'd take it. “Cissie!” She swore at herself and concentrated, forcing the camouflage away. “Hey, over here!”

Cissie heard her name and spun around quickly. At first, she didn't see anything but then she caught sight of Helena. She dashed over, relieved to see someone she knew who could handle this kind of thing. Between the two of them, they could hopefully keep the monsters away from the more populated parts of the island.

"Is it just more or is this place getting weirder and weirder?"

Apparently the girl was a speedster now. Good to know. “You've been here longer than I have,” Helena said. “I guess monsters don't usually come up out of the sea?”

The giant lizard let out a roar that Helena could practically feel, even at this distance. “Holy crap. I already hate these things.”

Before today, Starfire had actually come to enjoy the foreign power she has found herself in possession of for the past few days. The ability to communicate with animals wasn't one of her rightful powers, but she has taken it in stride all the same.

Now, though, standing on the shore as the monsters battle it out with one another, she wishes she could have done something a bit more useful. How could she possible try to speak with them if they couldn't hear her?

To make matters worse, one of the monsters looks too much like her beloved Silkie. She knows it isn't him, but even so, she still can't stand the idea of it being hurt. Perhaps, just as her Silkie had been, the creature had simply been misguided and could be reasoned with.

Hank had been telling people for the past two days that his power was to attract people to him except for those who were truly attracted to him.

Turned out the entire island had the hots for him.

He totally still had it.

"Waaauh, waaauh, come closer," he chanted, appearing between the trees at the edge of the beach, drawn by all the noise. His hands hula'd in front of him to complete the act. "Waaauh, waaauholy apocalpyse, Batman. Those are some ugly mofos."

"I have seen much worse." This was what she did back home: protected the city from any and all potential threats that were more than official law enforcement could handle. Back home, though, she was useful, and she wasn't forced to stand around and watch while others did all the work.

Miley Cyrus face or not, Hank didn't like it when Star wasn't her happy or over-enthusiastic self. He put his hula-ing hands to good use when he came up next to her and wrapped them around her in a big bear bug.

When he noticed how close Godzilla and the insect were coming though, he suddenly had an ulterior motive for the hug. Arms tightening around her, he turned on his heel so he was facing away from the ocean and picked her off her feet.

"And I have seen this movie. We should be going this way."

People with superpowers could do the fighting instead.
