Kon was drawing Savannah a picture. He'd told her he'd draw her something once upon a time, but he couldn't figure out what to draw. He still couldn't figure out what to draw, so he was just doodling a little. There were a slew of papers spread out along the desk. This paper was a drawing of the jukebox. That paper was a rather crude attempt ( Read more... )

"You could draw a tree," Savannah suggested, peering over his shoulder. The crayons looked like the walls of the children's office now, bright and cheerful. The primary colors made her happy and she smiled, resting a hand on Kon's shoulder.

"Oh!" she gasped when the effect was immediate. It was her thought, not her touch, not that she could tell the difference when it happened all at once. Red. Blue. Yellow. Just like the crayons, except it was Kon himself.

"Oh!" she gasped again. "I'm so sorry, Kon!"

"So sorry?" Kon frowned at her. He'd expected a 'thank you' maybe or a hug or something. But he hadn't expected her to apologize to him for his efforts to make her a drawing. "Why are you apologizing to me? This if for you. I mean, I didn't know it was you back there, or else I would have hidden the drawings so I could give them to you later."

She squeaked softly and pulled her hand away.

"Nothing?" she said, but lying didn't suit her. "Oh...I'm sorry. I'm, there something...Oh!"

What colors.

"I've changed you. You're...You should go look in a mirror."

"You've changed me" Kon asked. His voice might have gotten a little squeaky at that. Oh, god, what had this island done now? More importantly, what had Savannah done to him? He stood up quickly, grabbed her hand, and started pulling her to the bathroom. If he was going to see what had happened, she was going to come with him.

Bart had intended to just grab a book or something from the bookshelf to try to keep from wondering what he could do with a superspeed girlfriend. He'd already ducked into the kitchen for a glass of juice, and he'd started to talk to Kon before what he was actually seeing sank in.

"Hey, do you think I could get Krypto to--

"Holy primary colors, Batman." It just came out that way, honest. Besides, what do you really say when your best friend has yellow hair?

Kon sighed and rubbed at his hair self-consciously. "I know. I don't get powers, but I get powers used against me. Not that it was really her fault. It just kind of...sucks, you know?" Of course, it looked like everyone and their brother was getting powers, so maybe he wouldn't have even gotten his old powers. Now that would be a little scary.

"She said it should wear off in a few hours."

"You haven't seen Cissie yet, have you? She's...well, I now have a lot of sympathy for you guys putting up with me," he said, not wanting to be unfair. "I'm sure she'll be around when she's not starving. Superspeed doesn't exactly agree with her."

Kon gasped a little and put his hand to his chest. He was definitely mocking Bart. "You? Have sympathy for us? Has the universe come to an end or something?" He shook his head. "No, I haven't seen her yet. I'll be sure to use all the tricks I've learned over the years dealing with you on her."

Kon snorted. "No, I haven't been feeling like a cartoon. I just got powers used against me. Apparently Savannah's power is to make people different colors and it's completely out of her control. Or at least she told me it was out of her control."

And he believed her. It wasn't like her to lie, especially not to him.

"Cartoon stuff?" Kon asked, confused. "What do you mean cartoon stuff? And I don't mind so much. It could be worse, you know? Out of all the powers, turning someone a different color isn't so bad." It wasn't so great, either, but power in the wrong hand - and that included an inexperienced hand - was dangerous.

"That depends." Dairine flops down next to him, balancing an ice cream cone in one hand. "What friend is it for?"

"Savannah. I promised her I'd make her one when she found out I could kind of draw." He glances over at her and his eyes twinkle a little as he leans over and licks the ice cream. He didn't have cooties. Then, "Is Delirium making ice cream again?"

"And who's Savannah, then?" Dairine asks, cheerfully curious. "And actually, no. I made this. I'm full of surprises."

[I'm so sorry! I never got the notif! Carry on if you like or skip it or whatever!]

"A friend of mine," he teased. "I do have friends you don't know about." Come to think of it, they didn't have that many friends in common anymore. There was a time when he knew almost everyone that she did and that wasn't the case anymore.

On a whim, Cissie decided to check out the rec room to see if anyone she knew was in there. She put together a thick boar sandwich, mostly remembering to move at normal speed, then flew down to the room in a blur. Doing that kind of thing really wasn't helping with controlling the speed instead of it controlling her but she had to admit that it was really fun.

"Hey," she said as she came to a stop behind Kon. "You're... you're looking very bright today."

The breeze along his neck was something that Kon hadn't felt in too long and he turned around, already expecting to see Bart. It wasn't Bart standing there behind him and speaking to him. He stared. "Cissie?" That was new. It was almost a shame. He knew how to deal with Bart when he was amped up on speed.

"Did you just...?" Maybe he was mistaken. She'd just blown on his neck or something, right? Disturbing because she was Bart's girlfriend, but at least he was able to deal with that.

"Did I just what?" Cissie asked, tilting her head curiously. Her stomach rumbled insistently and it occurred to her that maybe she was going to need another sandwich.

"Hey, hold on. I'll be right back, I think I need another sandwich." She set the sandwich on the table and sped off towards the kitchen again, completely forgetting that Kon had no idea that she had any powers and that she probably should have explained that before taking off. She was going to tell him, she really was, but she had to heed the call of her stomach first.

A few seconds later, she barreled back into the room with another sandwich and collapsed on a chair across from Kon. "Okay, sorry. I just kind of really need to eat a lot right now what with me being turned into a speedster and all."

Kon planted his hand on his forehead and dragged it down his face. "Oh god." Right. Cissie. Speedster. A part of him couldn't help but feel bitter. Everyone else was seeming to get powers and all he got was a best friend with powers. Was it really fair? She'd never even had them. She didn't know what she was missing.

"Sit," he told her. "And try, I know it's hard, but try not to bounce. Much."
