It was only fitting, Jane believed, that she would hold this party upon such an eventful day. Five years ago, she had arrived upon the island and her whole life had changed. She was no longer the young girl that she had once been and was no longer trapped in the confines of a time when her options were greatly limited. Though the date coincided, ( Read more... )

While Belle still found herself having moments of doubt in a large crowd, she always tried to make an effort, fearing that she might miss out on something great if she allowed her worries to overwhelm her. She worried, at first, that perhaps her dress would restrict movement, but it was almost like the dress she had worn when she had danced with the Beast and she had nothing but good memories of that last night she had spent with him.

Tonight wasn't about recreating that, of course, but it was hard to shake the image from her mind. She wore a distantly fond smile as she stared at the dancing bodies on the floor and remembered how it had felt to be the only two underneath a sparkling ceiling.

"Someone looks like she's thinking too much," Jacob said softly, two cups of punch in hand. Belle looked beautiful, as usual, but there was just something about seeing her in a long, formal dress that made her seem different somehow.

"Nothing I have to worry about, is it?"

Belle tore herself away from her thoughts, reminded that the past was the past and she was glad for the present. She also wanted to be honest with Jacob about her thoughts. "I was thinking about the time that the Beast presented me with a ball. The room is almost the same, cavernous and beautiful at once."

"Ohhh," Jacob said, realization dawning. "Was he uh...was he a good dancer? The Beast, I mean?" Somehow, Jacob had trouble believing that he would be but it seemed to be a good memory for Belle so maybe he had been. Stranger things had happened in both his life and hers.

Erik's presence at this affair comes with an ulterior motive. He'd heard about the party through patrons of the Winchester and while he's aware that everyone is invited, he's not sure that this is his place. Were it not for Erik's dire need to find out more, he might have avoided this, but it's too easy to put on a suit and linger in the crowd, trying to pick up as much information as he can.

After a month, he's still unsure as to whether his arrival here is innocent. In a large gathering like this, he has a chance of compiling a great deal of information at once to seek out a lead.

Balls were far from Billy's thing, and though he did his best, dressing up in a red dress shirt and pants (recycled from Casino night, of course), he still felt out of place. He didn't feel at ease as most people seemed to, and though he'd walk around to say hello to familiar faces, he tended to stay a little to the sides, watching rather than mingling.

He was heading for a refill on his drink when he noticed a familiar figure and altered his course. The basics of his relationship with Erik Lehnsherr were still something Billy was trying to feel out, but he didn't let that stop him being glad to see his grandfather.

Erik notices Billy out of the corner of his eye long before he arrives and thus, has a drink waiting and prepared for him. It's not alcoholic. After all, Billy's not of a proper age yet. "Is this your sort of party?" Erik asks. While compiling information about the population as a whole, he'll never deny the opportunity to learn more about his grandson.

"Oh, no way," Billy said, putting his own glass down on the first free surface he found when he noticed Erik had a drink all ready for him. "I don't even really know how to dance, and my social skills are almost non-existent."

The original idea for today had been to get blind drunk. Guy had found out about Cole's disappearance only this morning and there was nothing he would rather do than get utterly and purely shit-faced. One thing and one thing only stood in his way; he had promised Jane to attend the party.

So, this evening, instead of finding himself face down in the mud trying very hard to remember his name, Guy found himself dressed properly and attending the promised ball, with merely the first drink of the evening in his hand. Holding it together. He deserved a fucking medal.

Jane found him quickly, knowing that Cole was no longer in his room and his belongings had vanished. She knew, of course, that such a thing would be crushing and did not wish to dally a moment longer as she approached, taking his arm in hers and leading him to the table. "Come, I've wine for you," she murmured.

Guy couldn't help but smile at that. "Oh, darling, you do know how to please a man!"

He let himself be lead to the table. "I take it you've heard the news?" He asked,

"His room is empty," she says with a sympathetic smile, not wishing to be overly so -- aware that Guy would not take kindly to such a display. "The piano remains, though, as though a gift. I thought it very charitable of his spirit."

Any excuse to dress up. The box, had, admittedly, been very kind to her, with black silk beaded across the bust to detract from the size of her ever-growing bump. She'd curled her hair and put it up. And she'd found red lipstick.

She probably didn't look as good as she thought she did but, frankly, she'd take what she could get.

Chase had a blotted stain at his wrist, but considering most of his clothing choices on the day-to-day, it wasn't like it was that ugly. "You look great," he appraised Martha as he came across her, a polite smile on his lips. "How long did you argue with the box for that?"

"Oh, not long," says Martha, airily, hiding her grin behind her juice as she takes a sip. "Couple of hours. Nothing big."

"I'm lucky, really," he admitted as he showed off the deepish blue jacket he had with the white shirt. "I'm not really a fashion maven, so half the time when I go looking for stuff, the bad designs it gives me are right up my alley," he announced. "Enjoying yourself?"

He's always loved a party. Who doesn't, right? Yeah, the island's a little warm for a suit, but he's always kind of liked the way he looks in a suit. Not that he's vain, or anything.

Okay. He's totally a little bit vain.
Still. He's at the ball, he's in a suit and he's aiming to get at least a little bit drunk. Maybe Kate'll even walk him home.

"Well who would have thought you'd actually clean up nice," Kate teases, wrapping her arms around him from behind. "Good thing you don't wear stuff like this at the club. I'm pretty sure strippers and you looking this good might be an issue."

Kate's pretty sure the low-cut, green dress she's unearthed might help a bit.

"I don't just clean up nice," says Baze, grinning. "I clean up real nice." He wraps both arms around her. "And please tell me I get to peel you out of that dress later."

"If you're really, really good," she says after thinking about it for a moment and giving him a quick kiss. "Do you think you can really handle that? I mean for an entire night? Because Sam's got a babysitter tonight and this dress? Is all I'm wearing."
