Okay, maybe the music's a little too loud. But if people are coming in for breakfast then they want to wake up, and if they want to wake up then a little old school punk is a good way to do it. He still misses Claudia's radio show playing while he's working breakfast, but some days he manages to put together a decent substitute. And okay, maybe he ( Read more... )

Danny loves breakfast at the Compound. No one's watching over his shoulder to check on his cholesterol intake and he doesn't have to worry about being pressed into a jog later to burn it all off. It is bliss and the eggs make it doubly so. "You," he informs Priestly. "You are a god, my friend."

"Yeah, I get that a lot," says Priestly with a cocky grin, serving him up extra just because he can. "You want some coffee with that? Just put a fresh pot on."

If there's one thing the kitchen burns through every morning, no matter what else is being served, it's coffee.

"Okay, we can elevate you to deity most high if there's coffee," Danny mumbles through a mouthful of toast and eggs. "But hey, hey," he says, swallowing. "I can do that if you want, lemme at least help out by getting the coffee, you already made all of this."

"I hope you weren't expecting me to turn you down," says Priestly, sneaking a half a slice of toast for himself. Not that he really needs to sneak anything, since he cooked it all. "Always happy to have a man who pours his own coffee. And that's totally not a euphemism."

One of the more delightful adjustments Iroh had to make on the island was the food. It was like nothing he had ever had before! Even when he knew the ingredients, the method of preparation was strange. Every meal was an exciting adventure.

Iroh follows his nose to the kitchen, stomach grumbling loudly, though the music does an excellent job of drowning it out. He winces a little at the volume.

"Smells delicious!" he calls out to the chef, wondering if the young man will be able to hear him over the noise.

Priestly's back is turned, but he still holds a thumbs-up over his shoulder to show that he's heard as he flips a fried egg over with the other hand. Only when it's snapping merrily in the grease does he turn around to greet the new arrival.

"What's your pleasure, my friend?"

"Whatever delightful concoction you have cooking up there will do just the trick, I think," Iroh said.

"What, the eggs?" says Priestly. "Sure, we can do eggs. We can do all kinds of eggs. But you're going to want something else with it. Fruit? Toast? Toast with fruit? Fruit in toast?"
