"Pretty good," I said, matching Zell's grin. "I got to vote. Back home, I wouldn't have been able to vote. So that's one benefit to being here."

I smiled sympathetically. "Well, I voted for her. And a few people did too. Maybe if she campaigned more? But I guess campaigns don't really go well here."

"Your face will freeze if you leave it like that," Coraline said looking just as sternly at Luke. "And then where will we be having to look at your ugly mug stuck like this-" Coraline made a face "-every day."

Coraline sighed, looking at Luke curiously. "What's the matter?"

"It's not that ugly and stop fishing for compliments." Coraline said nudging him in the arm. Coraline smiled up at him for once not too fooled by the light tone. Coraline knew that tone now, she'd used it on others when she was angry or upset. "You know you can talk to me if you want to. Is it... puppies? Are you angry because you didn't get a puppy? Or a party. Or girls? Or... I'll keep guessing."

It must have been a special occasion because Coraline was wearing shoes. Not only had Shari, her guardian, won a place on the council but so had Sookie and Hermione and Will and best of all Miss Helen. Coraline was quite excited about that and had one her best dresses to celebrate.

Coraline smiled, waving happily as she loomed above most of the crowd. Now, all she had to do was convince someone to dance with her.

"Aren't you going to say congratulations?"

Now, admittedly, he hadn't been elected onto the council (he'd volunteered), but he was still pretty proud of himself. He sketches her a little bow, one hand pressed against the front of his waistcoat. "I like the dress."

Coraline turned at the voice before smiling brightly at Gale. Coraline dipped low as gracefully as a tall teen could before she bopped back up again and threw her arms around Gale in a rather enthusiastic hug. Coraline smiled, hiding her blushing face behind her hair before she burst out with her congrats.

"Congratulations!" Coraline said. Coraline brushed a hand down the front of her dress and smiled. It wasn't the one Angie had made her, that was too old and small now but it was almost there. It was a favourite. "Thank you. You look very nice, I like the waistcoat. It looks very official now that you're in charge of hunting and gathering. I really can't see you in the gardens though."

He wrapped his arm around her, pulling her in tight against his chest for a moment before he let her go. He looks down at the waistcoast, dusting off the fabric with the flat of one hand.

"Yeah," he says, grinning. "Gardening's not really my thing."

Jane had been ever so pleased to see that Anne had been elected to the Council and with so many other lovely women. Though she was unsure, as of yet, to the abilities of women in the future, it gave her such a thrill to see so many upon the Council. She knew, knew, that if Lizzy were here, such a thing would delight her.

Jane pressed a hand to her stomach when it seemed that she was experiencing a great deal of gas. She progressed along to the next table of food. She had to stop, though, intaking a sharp gasp of air when the baby kicked for the first time.

Her eyes widened in delighted surprise as she realised precisely what had happened.

At that exact moment, Charlotte Charles happened to be passing by. She was on no particular journey, merely enjoying the atmosphere for the time being. There was nothing bad about a little party, especially one that was almost more of a picnic. Eli was in the careful care of her husband and she would return to both Piemaker and son soon enough.

The look on Jane's face made her stop, frowning slightly in concern. "Oh Jane! Is something the matter?" There was a chance that it was nothing at all, but she knew that she would feel terrible if she didn't ask about it.

Jane pressed her lips together and weathered through the motion in absolute stillness so that she might be sure whether it was not simply in her imagination. When she did not think that was the case, she brightened. "I think the baby is kicking," she said, with sheer amazement.

"Oh," Chuck couldn't help but let out a tiny squeal at that. There was a simple sweetness in it and she remembered it fondly. It had been quite the surprise when she had first felt Eli kick all of those months ago and while she knew that Jane had been through all of this before, she couldn't help but smile.

"That's so sweet. I guess he wanted to join in the party, didn't he? Or she."

McCoy’s as much of a fan as democracy as the next man - he supposes. It’s not like the hierarchy of politicians is really so strong in space. You listen to your Captain and you don’t get in trouble. In McCoy’s case, you listen to Jim when he makes sense and make sure he’s aware how insane he sounds the rest of the time.

He’s never been one to deny a party with booze and friends, so he’s put on a decent shirt and pair of dark denims, wandering around the party. Mostly, he’s glad that Nick’s representing him in the Lab. Really, he couldn’t be happier about that one.

"What's up, doc?" Rachel slides up to McCoy with a smile and a little wave. "Enjoying the party?"

She is, so far at least, there's happy people and good music and even without her empathic abilities she can feel her mood lift a bit with all the smiling around her.

McCoy lifts his brow and his glass at roughly the same time, giving Rachel a happy smile. He's always glad to see her, truthfully, and tonight's no exception. "It's not bad. I got good drinks, someone to represent me on the Council, and decent company. No cat following me, either."

"Aw, shucks, that was almost a compliment." She gave him a little nudge. Surly he may be a lot of the time, but she grew up with Logan so why would that deter her? "But the cat, has it seriously been following you around?"
