Rogue had taken a lot of care in prepping for the day’s excursion. She’d had to find a new bathing suit, for starters, since her last good one had been stolen by a literal wave of bad luck. She’d packed a bag with water and sangria she’d left soaking for a whole day, two towels and a chewed up paperback edition of The Firm. Sarong firmly in place ( Read more... )

He's been getting up for seven a.m. biology classes all school term long, and still the hour feels no less punishing, no less impossible for its earliness. Dean's had at least four cups of coffee, but it's not until his turn with Cori after class that he truly wakes up.

Between entertaining her and getting his chemistry homework done, washing and donning his scrubs for Clinic duty after, Dean's as awake as he's going to get. Now he's traipsing towards the beach, Cori on his back and so excited about the promise of sandcastles that he can feel her little feet drumming against him through the padding ( ... )

Rogue lifted her head up, eyebrows raising. She'd seen the guy around, mostly at island parties. He was a looker and a half, but the little girl he was toting around was pure adorable. They made an interesting pair.

"Woops," she murmured, then curled up to sit with her elbows on her knees.

"Y'alright, sugar? Might wanna watch out there's a... tree... there."

It's a pretty hefty task indeed, not to burst out laughing as soon as Dean runs into the tree. The best thing about sunglasses may very well be the fact that Faye can watch just about anything from behind that pair of shades, and with the sun like this, no one's any the wiser. She's not quite sure how to feel about the fact that he was immediately recognizable to her, that she could spot him through that walk alone, but that's a thought that she shakes off as she bites her lower lip, stifling a chuckle.

She takes her time in sitting up, but soon can't help herself; the shades come right off, one of the arms carefully positioned between her teeth as she gets a better look for injury. Of the ego or otherwise.

"Well, if it isn't Dean Winchester," she calls out, voice cloyingly sweet. "A little distracted today?"

While it takes a few seconds to get over the shock of someone actually walking straight into a tree (it's the sort of thing you only expect to see on TV, really), as soon as Faye's teasing tone rings across, Sookie immediately gets to her feet. On her part, she's almost entirely focused on the little girl Dean's got on her back- Cori, if she remembers correctly- and quickly races over the beach, carefully until she's out of the other girls' way, then kicking up more sand as she picks up the pace.

"Fudge," she exclaims, eyes wide as she approaches, carefully pinning an arm so that her bikini top stays in place. "Dean, you okay there? And you, Cori? Gosh, that was a real... collision just now."

Her brow furrows once she's close, head tilting to check for any scrapes or loss of balance.

With echoing shrieks of delight, Mack and Flo tear down the beach, all pigtails and coconut scented kid's sunscreen and oversized sunglasses in place, that inevitably make me think of their mother. They're carrying plastic pails and shovels, borrowed from the children's office, and when they catch sight of Sookie, they make a run for her, scrambling over the legs of two women I know by sight, but not necessarily by name.

"Sorry, ladies," I say, lowering myself down onto the edge of Sookie's towel, uninvited but most likely welcome.

[[Meant for Sookie, but any of them are welcome to react to being climbed all over. XD]]

"Oh-! Geez," Rogue started, half scooting back and then realizing it was probably best to lie still a moment and let the tornado pass.

Faye was going to be pissed.

"Sure thing, don' mention it," she mumbled, half amused.

Some days, I feel like my eventual goal on the island is to round up all the kids. Adopt them all, in one way or another. Now, I know that some of them (most of them, actually) have perfectly decent parents, Mack and Flo definitely being no exception. But there's just something so sweet and straightforward with kids, you know, the sort of thing that you can't with adults. Doesn't matter how kind they come, adults are always twisted somewhere under their skin, messed by something in their lives, and sometimes it's all a matter of finding out where those land mines are ( ... )

For all the time he'd been on the island, Sam had yet to actually go for a swim. He wanted to make sure that there weren't any sort of sea monsters or anything like that in the ocean before he went. Lots of people talked about surfing, but that wasn't enough to convince him there wasn't anything that was going to eat him in the water. Only after he had asked around enough to be sure that no one knew of any regular sea monsters or anything did he decide to venture out.

That and he could get nothing out of the clothes box for weeks except Speedos, and that just wasn't happening.

So when he finally got a pair of swim trunks he liked, he headed out for the beach ( ... )

Rogue propped herself up on her elbows and peeked at the guy from over the rim of her sunglasses. To get technical, he just had, but she didn't think that was what he was asking.

"It's a public beach, sugar."

There were times when Faye felt bad about the way she came off to others. It was a very rare occurrence, and usually depended on the other person being practically a saint, but it happened. Sam Witwicky was one of the folks that Faye had clearly rubbed against the wrong way, whose metaphorical bubble she'd burst for all of ten minutes, and she'd felt bad about that, in retrospect. Maybe only for about five minutes or so, but it was enough that she had a slightly kinder look on her face when she recognized him this time (though it was, in part, kinder because he was clearly in a... predicament of sorts, one that made it difficult not to burst into laughter).

"Oh look, it's Mister Optimistic," she grinned, before arching an eyebrow and deciding that keeping cynicism at bay clearly meant she could make up elsewhere. "Or Mister Really Optmistic, today."

Similarly sitting up and peering over at the newcomer, Sookie tilted her head, trying to place the young man. She'd seen him around, definitely, but apparently not enough to have learned his name, and that curiosity had her leaning forward, legs pulled to her chest.

"Oh don't worry, you're fine, we were just enjoyin' the sun and a bit of girl talk," she shrugged with a welcoming smile, her eyes narrowing slightly. "You're fairly new to the island, right? I've spotted you here and there before, but I don't think I've ever caught your name. I'm Sookie Stackhouse."

Coming across people, even swimsuit-clad women, sunbathing on a beach on an island where there was not much else to do wasn't exactly a novel thing, and so, on his trudging way down the beach, right at the water's edge (because he liked the way it felt on his toes when the waves pulled the wet sand out from under them), he very nearly kept moving along without even looking up to notice the three women, about his own age, in their small group ( ... )

Rogue was fairly certain she wasn't being addressed, and she peered from side to side to see if Sookie or Faye was the designated 't-shirt lady' the guy had recognized.

"T-shirt lady," Faye repeated with an arched brow, snorting before she sat up and pushed her shades out of the way to get a better look at the familiar face ambling toward her. He'd been nice enough, the last time they met, someone who seemed to have the ability to put up with all of Faye's teasing and mockery- not an easy task for anyone, she liked to think. "That's a new one. Does that make you t-shirt guy?"

There was a rather puppy-like air to Hurley in general, Faye'd noticed even over the few minutes they'd interacted last time, one that made it very hard to poke and prod at him to the same degree that she would have anyone else. So her smile was slightly kinder, and for once tolerant.

"Why don't you sit with us?"

Shooting Rogue an equally confused look, Sookie then turned to face the newcomer, smiling brightly. There was just something inherently positive about his presence, the way that he'd almost bounded over to the three of them, and then didn't even have enough self-awareness to keep from just focusing on the person he knew- apparently just that excited to see her. It was kind of sweet. Definitely unassuming.

For her part, she leaned forward to pick up the bowl of fruit, holding it out in his direction.

"This would be fruit salad indeed," she nodded. "Want some?"

McCoy doesn't often wonder if he's in over his head, but when he comes across the beach to say hey to Rogue and finds himself staring at three women looking a lot barer than he's seen in a long time, he has to pause and remember that he's got a girlfriend and he's damn happy with her.

"Mornin', ladies," he drawls, arching a brow as he looks them over. "Having fun, are we?"

[Oh hell, all three]

Rogue's lips split in a beam and she rolled over onto her stomach, folding her arms beneath her chin.

"Heya Doc! Come to get some sun?"

It's the sound of Rogue's greeting that has Faye perking up more than anything else. To be honest, she's been curious since meeting the other woman, wanting to know more about Rogue's life. It always seems a bit brash to just go full out and ask, though. Easier to just sit back and watch as Rogue interacts with other people, her expressions telling, her tone even more so. This doc, whoever he is, probably is just a friend of Rogue's, but you never know.

Faye sits up just a tad, until her elbow props her up and pushes the towel further into the sand.

"So much fun, I almost forgot to miss the men," Faye tacks on.

If there's one thing, other than the sense of progress and accomplishment, that Sookie appreciates about being on the Council, it's the fact that she's gotten to know a whole lot more people than she otherwise might have on the island. While she hasn't spoken individually to all of the island residents, she's traipsed around most of the island enough times that she recognizes faces, names, even knows what circles most people generally hang out in. The process of getting to know everyone has made Sookie feel less homesick over time, gradually working up to the point where Tabula Rasa might even become as familiar to her as Bon Temps.

The sun's made her a bit drowsy as she lazily pushes up to see who's come across the three of them, offering him a smile. "Hey, Doctor McCoy," she greets brightly. "The sun really is beautiful today; I'm havin' a hard time imagining anyone not havin' fun here."
