"Bobo! Bobo, slow down!" Coraline yelled loudly as she chased after the illusive Bobo. Jumping over a tree root, Coraline skidded onto the boardwalk and stumbled before running straight down the path towards the beach. Coraline shouted again, watching as the golden coloured Bobo sped towards the water at a quick pace. "No, no, no, no! Don't go in ( Read more... )

Juliet’s walking the beach, her haven more often than not. This time she’s without the rum, barefoot in shorts, a tank top, and letting her hair blow out around her. It’s getting long now, almost down to the middle of her back, and it’s curly today from the humidity. She’s used to it, has been used to it for three years, so she doesn’t even bother to tie it back anymore ( ... )

Juliet supposes she shouldn't believe this - people don't eat children, or sew buttons over their eyes. But as she listens to Coraline, she realizes she does believe her.

"Someone tried to lock me away once," she finds herself saying before she can stop herself. Not...like the person who wanted to hurt you. But he never let me see my family again."

Her voice is soft and she gives Coraline a little half smile that's a touch sad. It's probably not a story to tell a young kid, but it's more than likely no less worse than a woman eating children.

"What did you do?" Coraline asked curiously. Coraline had found herself in the Mirror Room more than once but Coraline had always been taken out of the room. Adam and Cain had found her, she'd escaped with Trisha and the Other Mother had taken her out. Coraline had never rescued herself.

Juliet has to think about that for a minute. She doesn't really know what she did, but she's positive she never left.

"I don't yet," she finally says. "I got away from the man who wouldn't let me leave, but then the ship that was going to rescue me - and my friends - blew up. And now I'm here," she says with a little shrug. "I don't know what happens next." Unless what happened on Halloween is a fair indication.

She doesn't mention the time traveling, and this isn't exactly the point in which she came from, but it feels strange trying to explain a life that doesn't exist. So instead she draws from what she knows to be fact, things that can be backed up by James, Hurley, and Kate.

"I guess, you live. And you make friends. And you make a home. That's what I've done," Coraline said with a smile. Coraline was proud of her home. Coraline didn't feel trapped or stuck here only by the adults that made rules up for her but the place itself was the first time she'd ever felt safe, secure, loved. This was her home now. "Maybe this is your rescue."

Juliet smiles, because really, she hadn't stopped to think about it the way a thirteen year old girl just put it. Maybe this is the happy ending for her. What she's never been able to find in this life or the next. A rescue.

"Coraline? I really like that idea. It's been a long time since I've had a home, so you know what? I'm taking your advice and making a home."

She had a hut, but having a roof didn't mean you had a home. "And I'd like it if you and Bobo wouldn't mind being my friends." Juliet likes Coraline - reminds her of David - and her smile is genuine as she holds out her hand as if to shake on a deal.

"I don't mind at all. I'd be really happy to be your friend," Coraline said smiling warmly at Juliet. Coraline took her hand and shook it enthusiastically. "Just if you go to school, don't take as many classes as I do. I have so much homework."

"Oh, trust me. No more school for me. I went for a really long time to be a doctor." Although, maybe it would be something to pass the time.

"What do you want to do when you're done with all of that school and homework?"

"You're a doctor? Cool! I'm going to be a doctor too when I'm older, I want to help people. At first I thought I wanted to be a superhero but superheroes make a lot of mess and end up getting people injured a lot too. So, I'm going to be a doctor and then no more children will die when I'm around." Coraline said smiling happily.

"Well, we have a lot in common," Juliet says with a little laugh.

"I help women have babies, sometimes when they didn't think they'd ever be able to. But you know, I think doctors are kind of like super heroes. They have to promise to always help people, no matter what. And that's kind of like protecting people, right?"
