Priestly's never been That Guy, the one who can get an entire club shut down for a private event. He's pretty sure he used to make fun of That Guy, actually. But somehow here on the island, well, he kind of is. That or other, more powerful, people think Brooke deserves as awesome a birthday party as he does ( Read more... )

Brooke stands under the banner, fingers flying between her hastily thrown on dress and even more hastily styled hair, but the latter is forgotten when Priestly pops a tiara down on her head. She has no idea where he got it, but Brooke clutches at it, beaming wildly. She likewise has no idea how he managed to throw all this together, how he even convinced people to come when she's been such a drag lately, but between Priestly and Rachel, there are enough people that Brooke isn't having any flashbacks to tragic sixth grade birthdays to which no one came.

Or maybe they just thought there'd be boobs. It is the Catscratch, after all, but Brooke is well equipped to pretend that they're there just for her, catching the hands of the person idling nearest her to drag into a hug. "Oh my god, thank you for coming! Are you having a good time? Do you need a drink?"

Brooke's being a spazz, but nothing new there. She looks happy, though, and that makes Rachel feel suspiciously gooey inside.

"Happy Birthday, bitch," she says, bumping her hip after the awkward hug seems to be over.

"You are such an evil whore," says Brooke, releasing her with a light slap to her arm. "You didn't leave me any time to get dressed so you could be the prettiest person at my party. But I forgive you," she adds, "because it's such a great party."

"Oh, honey, it'd take more time than you've got to do that," Rachel assures her. "But you don't look half bad. So, did we do good? We totally did good. Your boyfriend has been all kinds of cute about this."

Rachel rocks. So does Priestly. Priestly definitely rocks. She's totally making up for sucking so hard last year (and you know, most of the rest of the time).

Rachel would never like, say it, but she loves Brooke. Brooke's the best person she knows and she should have a great birthday.

The fact that Rachel only gave her five minutes to get ready was just funny. Even today, she can help but be a little bit of a bitch.

She circles the crowd, way less excitedly than Brooke, happily knocking down drinks. It's been a good day.

"Thank you for the apparent lack of trauma," says Priestly when he manages to catch Rachel for a moment, "and the lack of pieces. Mostly the lack of pieces. I take it this morning was a success?"

Because he totally didn't follow them. Mostly because he had too much else to do.

There are a few things about the adventure that might cause concern, but there's no reason for him to know that.

"Total success," she says, raising a hand for a high five. "She's scar free and it's actually a little sad how excited she is. Maybe we should throw her parties more often."

"If we did that, they wouldn't be so special," he says. Though, you know, a few more special things in her life wouldn't be a bad thing. "So you actually saw them, huh? The trip wasn't a bust?"

Olive's never actually set foot in the Catscratch Club before, mostly because she has no real interest in what goes on here (to each their own, man, no judgment, it's just not her thing for any number of reasons). Brooke's birthday, however, seems like all the reason in the world to change that, and now she's inside, she's kind of fascinated. It's actually a pretty nice place, which is all the more impressive for the fact they're stuck on a desert island and she really didn't expect much architecturally or anything like that.

She's donned a strapless moss green dress for the occasion, fingers stroking absently over the light skirt, small present for Brooke clasped in her other hand. It feels a little like somewhere she shouldn't be, though she's old enough to enter any time she wants, but she kind of likes that feeling, smiling to herself as she heads for the bar, half-dancing as she goes and wondering what they have without alcohol here.

"Is that an olive green dress?" Chris asks when he spots Olive at the party. Truthfully, he's not sure why he's there. He's never really met the girl the party's for and he wasn't really invited, but he's not about to fuckin' sit around alone in his hut when there's a party going on. He's mostly sober for the moment, the buzz of the last spliff he smoked slowly fading, but there are a few pills in his pocket for later if he needs them.

Olive glances down at it and laughs. "A very faded olive," she says, "or a moldy one, but I suppose it is." Either seems appropriate, actually. A month into her stay, she's starting to feel a little run down every time she lets the homesickness get to her, but that isn't going to happen tonight. Tonight is for fun, and the more so with Chris here. "I didn't know you know Brooke."

"I don't," he replies with a shrug and a grin, "But I figure with birthday parties, it's like... the more the merrier, yeah? Besides, would you toss me outta your birthday just for turnin' up without an invitation?"

It's far from the first party Chris has gone too without being invited, and he's sure it won't be the last.

She feels raw, scraped skin and like eggshells broken on a kitchen floor and the world is spinning. She feels like she is drowning and then there is nothing, light and everything is warm and beautiful. And She, Delight, is holding her own hand and telling her it will be okay. She can hold them together. Frightened, fleeting, loving until she can hold herself together. Without glue, without string, without anything but herself. They'll be okay.

"It'll be okay," Del tells herself and smiles in delight at the party around her-them. "Let's find the birthday girl and kiss her. Okay?"

oKiEs.

"Oh hey!" Rachel shouts over the music, a little louder than necessary. "It's you. Are you trying to kiss Brooke?"

She's a tad drunk.

Del tilted her head, staring at her for a moment before smiling brightly at Rachel. Del bobbed her head up and down at the question. At least they were in agreement they were going to kiss Brooke.

"Hey, yes hmm me." Del replied talking fairly quickly. She nodded before shaking her head. "Oh, yes but not trying. I'm going to kiss Brooke, maybe."

"Does Brooke know that?" she wonders out-loud, juggling her extra drinks. "You might want to warn her...even though I think you should totally do it."

It'll be hilarious.

Layla Miller didn't have a lot of experience with birthday parties, and this was due to a number of reasons, but the end result was that she'd made Jamie pick the present out. Basically.

She also didn't spend a lot of time at the island's strip club, although she'd hit up the jazz club in the basement more than once, so she was more or less 0 for 2.

At least she knew Brooke. As The Moustrap's stage manager, she'd spent a not insignificant amount of time coordinating with the other woman, and sitting off to the side with her while Layla took line notes and Brooke did what the hell it was went into designing and building costumes. So if she was armed with nothing else, she at least had some genuine good wishes to offer.

And a plus one, so that was okay.

Brooke finds herself at Layla's side mid-party, enough celebratory booze in her already that she can't figure out just how she's landed there, but pleased all the same. Layla and Jamie are super nice as well as being super attractive, like, seriously they're pretty much the island's Brad and Angelina. "Brangie," Brooke murmurs with a wide smile. "Thanks for coming to my party."

"Drooke?" Layla said back to drunk Brooke, eyebrows lifting, but offering up one of her rare smiles.

"Nothing less than my pleasure. How's it going?"

Drooke. She's too far gone to connect what Layla's saying, but she giggles anyway. Drooke is a silly word.

"Awesome," she says. "I saw a dinosaur today, and I totally didn't get in trouble, and then my handsome boyfriend made me a party, and he made cakes because he bakes and is perfect, and now I drunk." She beams.
