It was weeks since the space station had fallen out of the sky and life went on. It always did. Cable had lost just about everything a man could lose, in his time, and it hadn't ever stopped him from carrying on. The difference was, this time he had no mission to lose himself in. He'd always had plans, had fights, had goals and enemies and a reason ( Read more... )

It wasn't, to be fair, that much of an expression, except that Layla's were usually pretty subtle so for her eyebrows to have ratcheted up that high was certainly indicative.

"Pants much?" she asked, in a tone of passing curiosity.

Normally Cable tried his best to make it seem like he never made any mistakes and that everything he did was part of a perfectly constructed plan. But he very much doubted any good could come of pretending that he'd deliberately flashed Layla.

"Probably not a bad idea," he admitted slowly, letting Zero run forward to sniff at her while he turned away to go get some.

Layla held out both hands to cup the dog's muzzle and smiled down at him.

"Hey there, big fella." She smoothed her hand back over his ears and looked up to wait for Cable's return.

"This a bad time?"

"It's as good as any," he told her when he returned, clad in some pants and a shirt, as Zero started trying to lick her hands. "Anything else I can do for you or did you just come to remind me to get dressed?"

Brad's been a Marine since he was eighteen, lived and breathed the Corps, and he's entirely used to male nudity. He's so used to it that he doesn't even notice for a moment. When he does, one eyebrow raises.

"Nice to see you," he says, wryly. It's possibly the first time he's smiled today.

"Always a pleasure, Brad," he replied, making no effort to cover up or do anything about his nudity. He'd rather have this entire conversation stark naked then come off as being flustered.

He hadn't seen the other man since the disappearance of his husband and there was a certain amount of sympathy there that he wasn't sure how to express.

"Care for a drink?"

"Sure," he says, nodding, wandering closer with his hands in his pockets. "You might want to put some pants on, though. There's only so long before that becomes a topic of conversation."

"I was trying not to bring attention to it," Cable replied, with a casual shrug as he sent Zero running off back into his hut. "Just be wearing them when I came back with the drinks. You can have water, cold coffee or moonshine, by the way."

The genial host was a new look for him, but he was going to give it his best shot. It seemed the easiest way to express sympathy.

"Bloody hell, Nathan," Terry sighs, immediately turning around when she gets a look at a lot more Cable than she ever wanted. "Would you do me a favor and put some pants on?"

mutant_gi_jesus February 17 2011, 22:55:11 UTC
Yes seemed to be the only reply possible to that.

"Yes," he said as he quickly retreated back into his hut and slung on a pair. Before coming back out looking slightly sheepish, or as sheepish as he ever looked anyway.

"Better now?"

"Much," Terry replies, entirely grateful that Cable isn't the sort to question or mock her discomfort. She loves him, but that love can only go so far. "Thanks. Should I even ask?"

"I heard you coming while I was getting changed, that's all," he replied, resting his hand back on Zero's head. "I'm sorry, I forget sometimes about your cultural taboos."

It was typical of him to phrase it in a way that made it seem like it was her out of step with the general population's views and not him but the apology was sincere.

"Hell-oh, oh... hi!" Delirium said staring at Cable intently before she finally looked up and up and up at him. Del beamed at him brightly, smiling away at him. "You are very naked. Should I take off my clothes too? I feel very overdressed."

"Feel free," Cable told her casually, "or alternatively, I could put some clothes on."

endlessdel February 17 2011, 23:48:41 UTC
Delirium made a slight scoffing noise at that idea.

"Delicate human sensibilities. They have very strange ideas in this century," Delirium said grinning as she looked him over. Delirium blamed Lucy, he of the fallen, for human shame. She'd had many words with him about that. "You could do that I suppose, I could take them off and you could put them on."

Delirium was still taking her t-shirt off though even if he did put some on. She was after all wearing a fishnet body stocking beneath it so it wasn't like she was exactly naked-naked and she was still wearing a skirt.

"I forget sometimes," Cable agreed with a nod, 'strange ideas' was right, "that it's an issue."

Since the offer had been scoffed at, he made no move to either get some clothes or cover himself up. He wasn't excited by nudity, either his own or hers, but he was comfortable as he was and trying to cover up felt too much like retreating. If Delirium, as he thought she was called, wasn't offended then there wasn't a problem.

His dog, meanwhile, barked excitedly for no real reason. Cable ignored it.

That was... so much more of her brother than she needed to see. Really, it totally was. When he was a baby, that was different. Naked babies = cute. Naked adult brother = awkward. Not that she's prudish about things, but, the fact remained. Very. Naked. Brother.

And what do we say to our very naked brother?

"Uh... laundry day come late this week?"

If Rachel was feeling awkward, it was very much one sided. Cable understood intellectually the connotations that nudity could hold, that it carried a sexual subtext, but it wasn't something he felt himself. In his bones, he felt no difference between being naked or wearing clothes. Still, he didn't have to feel awkward himself to know that Rachel wasn't comfortable.

"I should fire my maid," he replied back, as he covered himself with the water bottle, for his sister's sake, before backing into his hut to grab some clothes, leaving Zero to cover his exit by running up to greet her.

"Or, you know, hire one?" She leaned over to scratch Zero behind the ears and feed him a treat she'd brought in her pocket.

"Any particular reason you're clothesless today or were you just in a mood?"

"It's my new gimmick," he told her when he returned wearing some pants and a top, smiling slightly at the way she always effortlessly won over his dog. "If I'm going to start proselytizing again, I need something to grab the attention."
