Losing Adrian is rough, but Emma finds it considerably easier than some other disappearances. For one thing, Adrian is genuinely capable of caring for himself. She doesn't have to worry about him. If he's actually gone back to his world, as the simpering masses insist is the case, then he'll have things to do with his life, and if he's moved onto ( Read more... )

James, though more likely to speak to himself than others, had a habit of interrupting conversations, even with oneself. Typically, accompanied with music, Jessie and Meowth, the recitation of a motto and the ultimatum to hand over that Pikachu, he was quickly adapting life without chasing Pikachu, the rest was still a work in progress. It was with typical James simplicity and niavete when he replied to her.

"Well not necessarily hilarious, but ... I can be quite funny." He paused in the middle of the sentence as though needed to seriously consider how he might describe himself.

Emma arched an eyebrow as she looked over at the boy - young man, really, but his bizarre hair and attitude made him seem young to her. Nevermind that she wasn't all that old yet herself.

"I've no doubt," she drawled. "I was referring to the box, but I'm sure you're every bit as amusing." It was hardly a compliment.

She reminded him of the Boss -- the boss of Team Rocket. Sure, they'd only shared, so far, a two or three sentence conversation, but the way she carried herself, her confidence, that certain attitude in her voice. He was sure that any moment now she'd be calling him an idiot or an imbecile or some such. Under normal circumstances, and when it was the Boss doing the yelling, he would have cowered and held on to Jessie and Meowth for dear life. For the moment, he just played stupid, not that it was stretch from how he was feeling.

"As amusing as the box?" he whined, almost getting insulted by the comparison. "Hardly! I'm much funnier than that thing. It doesn't have a funny bone in it." And, as though it were making a point to prove him wrong, lying in the box as he looks down is a t-shirt with a "funny bone" being tickled. It probably had some innuendo to it that James was missing entirely. James made a face at the box. Totally mature move.

Emma glanced down and promptly rolled her eyes. No doubt there were people who would tell her she had no room to judge, but this thing was tacky as hell. "Well, there's one now," she said. "So it seems your one advantage thus far is you can speak. And I'm sure you can't be more ridiculous than this thing."

It was a close race.

She almost thought it had just been cleaned out of anything good, since she was probably far from the only person to do this these last couple days, but that was ludicrous. It was self-regenerating. "Are you looking for something?"

She knows better, she should probably restrain the snark, but the image of Emma Frost with that collection of clothing in her fingers was a little too rich to pass up.

"Is it any more or less ridiculous than wearing white lingerie 24-7?"

Rubbing at the marks on her face, a habit she reminds herself she needs to curb soon, Rachel comes to join her, peering into the clothing box to see what other horrors it might inflict on the White Queen.

Emma just barely restrains herself from actually rolling her eyes. She manages to keep up with the others - primarily Sean - enough not to be taken aback by this latest arrival, and to have the conversation begin with a jibe surprises her even less.

"Inherited your mother's poor taste, I see," she says, clucking her tongue. "Enjoying your stay so far? The weather's been just marvelous."

Rachel ignores the rampant sarcasm, it's just Emma, some things will never change and ultimately, she really doesn't want to cause any problems. God only knew if Scott was ever going to show and, my wouldn't that be fun if he did?

"That's one way of putting it. You come through it okay?"

"I'm still intact," Emma said, straightening up and gesturing to herself with a flourish, "although the same can't be said for my former residence." She outright refused to refer to any place she'd once lived in as a hut. It might have been the appropriate word - "hovel" worked equally well - but it didn't merit any connection with her. "And yourself?"
