Juliet was not about to miss something so wonderful as a roller-skate party, especially not when she had her own pair of skates, a total love of the music, and ability to skate her way around the gym, backwards and forwards, switching off here and there. Sure, it wasn't exactly roller-derby and no one's nose would get broken, but she kind of couldn't mind it.

It was a roller disco party. Jules was in a kind of heaven.

"Know what two things would make this better than it already is?" Shawn asked as he rolled up beside her. He didn't try anything too fancy while on wheels since he preferred to stay upright for the time being.

"One: The Chicken Dance. You think they take requests?" All that arm flapping and wiggling might have made the staying upright thing a bit more difficult, but Shawn was up for the challenge. Besides, it was The Chicken Dance. "Two: glow sticks."

Juliet brightened when she saw Shawn, reaching out for his wrists with her arms, careful to not try and screw with his balance too much. "Oh," she gasped, suddenly very much wanting, "I would love a glow stick right now," she insisted, turning and offering her arm out to him. "So, not exactly roller derby, but what do you think?"

"I think there's a time and place for violence on wheels," he said sagely, accepting her arm and latching on, "but this isn't one of them." A much more appropriate time would include... just about any when he wasn't out on the rink with skates on his feet. In the bleachers with a churro was more his pace.

"And I think I may have discovered a new love for ABBA." Which could very easily shift to hate by the end of the event, but at that point in time, it was love.

Juliet really has no idea what makes her feel compelled to ask Joshua to go to the roller disco party with her. She wants to have fun, it's been a weird few days, and this seems like the thing to get her mind off of the weird memories and mind tricks.

She's got her hair down, but took the time to braid enough to bring around the top of her head, clipping it together in the back. Soon enough she's heading out with Joshua, in a better mood than she has been in two or three days.

When they walk in, it's like the seventies exploded, and she grins, feeling right at home for the first time since she got to the island.

Right at home is not how he's feeling. He's only agreed because she asked and she's been having a rough couple of days.

He stands there looking around, trying not to think about breaking a limb if she makes him put on roller skates.

Juliet does indeed hand him a pair of skates. "I'll help you," she says. "Come on, it's easy. And it's fun." She smiles at him in what she hopes is a convincing manner.

"You'll help me?" he repeats. "I don't... I've never skated in my life. I doubt there's any natural talent in me." He's stammering for an excuse.

"I'll break a limb," he says at least, stating what's on his mind.

The island sometimes had a way of making Harry feel thoroughly out of the loop, and when he'd seen 'roller disco' on the poster he'd not had a clue what it meant. The words were readable, but they might as well have been a foreign language for all they made sense to him. Still, he liked parties, and he liked Shari, so despite his trepidation he'd decided to attend ( ... )

Standing on the sidelines, much too pregnant to skate, Charlie bounces a little on her heels and applauds. Harry had looked kinda shaky at first, but he's really getting to it now, and Charlie figures that the best she can do is support him. The clothes box gifted her with an adorable maternity dress that fits the theme and she'd done her eyeliner especially.

"That's it!" she calls. "Lookin' good, honey!"

Gliding past, Harry overheard Charlie's compliment and bowed, then rounded a corner and slid to a stop a few feet past her. He clumsily clumped back in her direction, grinning.

"What can I say? I have natural grace," he said. Which was, in a weird way, sort of true. People didn't expect it from a little scrappy-looking man, but between diving, dancing, and all the stuff he'd learned in the army, he'd learned excellent coordination. As long as he was sober, of course.

"Not skating?" he said, glancing down at her feet. Gaze scanning back at her very rounded belly, he recalled why. "Oh, yeah, of course. Shame. It must be a real pain having to be extra cautious about everything for a whole nine months - I don't think I could do it. I'd be a terrible woman."

"That is one of the myriad reasons you'd be a terrible woman, Harry," says Charlie, smiling sweetly as she reaches up to pat his cheek. "You are pretty good on those, though."

Never let it be said that I wasn't prepared for a party, especially one I was throwing. Since I'd decided on a roller disco theme, I'd been planning, putting together a completely appropriate, if slightly scandalous outfit complete with hot pants and rainbow leg warmers. Hair in pigtails, I made my way around the gym, shaking my booty in time with Kool and the Gang and generally feeling like I'd stepped out of an Olivia Newton-John movie.

"Look!" said Jess excitedly as she skated slowly up to Shari. "I learned how to stop! Without grabbing someone or falling down!" And just to prove it, she braked herself right at Shari's side.

Okay, there might have been a small amount of grabbing involved.

I couldn't help but laugh even as my free arm wheeled wildly out to keep the both of us from toppling over. "Good job, Jess," I replied, giving her the thumbs-up once we were steady again. "I had faith in you from the beginning."

"I haven't done this in so many years I hardly even remember how," said Jess. "And I definitely wasn't in stirrup pants the last time. They're actually really practical for skating. Who knew?"

Sirius had always been more into punk, himself, but that didn't mean he was unfamiliar with ye olde discotheque. His excuse for being there was offering moral support to Neil, but it was almost comforting to step into a dimly-lit room filled with late-Seventies dance music and scantily-clad people trying to keep rhythm while on roller skates. You could say what you liked about Muggles, but they always knew how to throw a party.

Seated on the bleachers, he's bent over as he tugs on a pair of black skates. He's only tried skating once, but it's got to be like riding a broom, right? You never really forget.

"Oh wow." Cassie glides to the edge of the bleachers, full skirt tied in bunches at her knees and a cheery headdress pressed close round her forehead. She's still a bit unsteady on her skates, but she's learning quickly, already in love with the feel of the wind in her hair.

She looks at Sirius' skates, then the man himself. "Are you really going to?"

Somehow, he hadn't expected her to be here. When he looks up, Sirius fairly beams to see her all dressed up and smiling.

"Of course I'm going to," he replies as he pushes himself to his feet. There's a brief, initial moment of unsteadiness, but then he catches his balance and everything is good again. "Look at you, you're like some sort of spangly disco angel."

"Am I?" Cassie touches her wings, her careful fingers almost shy, but she beams at the praise.

"It's an all right party. Come." She holds out her hand. "I've learnt how to go quite fast."
