Throwing a party was a lot more work than Logan had anticipated, and he found himself grateful for a change that Jack had so many friends. Decorating wasn't so bad, and it went by faster with the help of Prior and Maureen, but food... Well, anyone who had ever tasted Logan's attempts at anything other than pancakes or bacon would be glad to know ( Read more... )

Leaving Jack's side to let the other man go make his usual party rounds, Logan had moved to sit on the edge of the stage. The party had been going well, and Joe had been awesome during his set, but now Logan had Jack's record player out on the porch of their hut, playing music he knew Jack loved just loud enough to be background noise ( ... )

Logan didn't look impressed by Jack's attempt to sweeten him to the idea, but he leaned lightly against the other man anyway.

"I don't want to talk about the club tonight. it's your birthday, we should talk about things that wont start a fight."

He stopped dancing and stroked Jack's hair. "You want a beer?" he offered.

"I know what won't start a fight," Jack replied, wearing a cheeky grin. He patted Logan's ass and nodded, heading for the drinks.

"I'd love a beer. I'm so glad Ianto's finally gotten it down. His brew isn't bad at all."

Logan always managed to look somewhat offended when Jack groped or patted him in public, and he turned slightly pink before rolling his eyes and gently smacking Jack's hand.

"It's about a million times better than moonshine, that's for damn sure," Logan agreed, wandering off to fetch them a bottle each.

"Oh, I don't know. I have some fond- if very fuzzy- memories of the moonshine," Jack laughed. "It does the trick, even if it doesn't taste that great."

"I don't," Logan replied, wrinkling his nose and passing Jack his beer. "I remember throwing up once. That was pretty bad."

Jack laughed and nodded. "Tosh had to practically caryy me home once. I think you did too, for that matter. Powerful stuff. Maybe I'll stick to the beer from now on."

He lifted his bottle to toast Logan with it and then wrapped his lips around it and tipped it back. It had been so long since he'd even had a beer that it tasted divine.

It was unnatural how Jack could make something as mundane as drinking a beer look hot. Same way it seemed strange to Logan that Jack could charm a whole party without trying.

Jack had spoken to so many people, may of them who just walked right up to him- even the strangers. While Logan, who was meant to be the host, had barely exchanged words with anyone but Jack.

Back in Neptune he would have found a few people and simply hung out, but here- Here it was different. People didn't even seem to notice him, and for all he was throwing the party, he felt out of place again.

"I'm gonna... I think I need to go sit for a while," he lied, nodding towards the hut. "Go have a few more dances, enjoy your party, okay?" he said, smiling stiffly and kissing Jack quickly on the lips. "I'll come find you when people start to leave."

"You gonna go talk to Joe?" Jack asked, looking over at the man. He still got a feeling of dread when he looked at Joe and he was one of the few men who could make Jack's confidence evaporate with just a look. And, the worst part, it was obvious.

"No, no i was gonna go inside," Logan admitted, glancing at Jack and then Joe.

"You should say hi to him though. it was cool of him to come play."

"It was nice of him to come," Jack agreed. He reached out and slid his fingertips lightly down Logan's arm and caught his hand. He leaned in to kiss Logan lightly.

"Do you really want to go inside? I know you hate these things...but I like having you here."

Logan returned the kiss slowly, sighing a little and forcing a laugh.

"Jack, when no one even wants to say hi to the host, it's time for the host to leave," he replied. "I'm just- I'm not like you. I don't think you get how weird it is, standing here, watching everyone laugh and smile, and knowing that maybe all of 5 of them even know I'm here. I'm not like you, I don't thrive at parties. Why do you think no one ever bothered to throw me one? They were saving me the embarrassment of having no one turn up.

Swallowing down his self pity, he smiled. "I did this because it's your thing, and I wanted you to have a good time. So have one. That's all I want right now. I want you to have a good birthday."

Jack searched his face and bit his lip, then he nodded. "Okay," he said, pulling Logan closer so he could hug him. "I'm having a good time, but when people start to leave I promise I'll come in and we can have some cake and celebrate...just you and me. You know that's what I like best anyhow."

Logan wasn't sure he believed that, but he smiled anyway, faking his amusement and happiness so well that it almost felt real.

"Yeah, I know. Go on, go entertain the masses," he said, smacking Jack playfully on the ass before turning away.

The party had seemed like such a good idea, but now that it was actually happening, Logan felt like he'd just sucker-punched himself somehow.

"I love you," Jack said, stealing one more kiss before he turned to rejoin the party. He knew Logan was upset and unhappy, but sometimes it was just better to leave him to it. They would resolve it later. They always did.

"Hey," Joe said as he appeared at Logan's side, glancing briefly at the beer in his hand before he looked away. It didn't matter how much he wanted one, he wasn't allowed anymore. "Good party."

He loved having the chance to play. Even if it was a little weird to be playing at a party for Jack, the man he'd punched in the face not so many months ago.
