Somehow, Xander had made himself a life on the island. Between Spike, his friends, the building crew, the club and classes, he barely ever had any down time and he actually liked it more then he thought he would at home. But even though classes were out for the moment, Xander didn't really find himself any more time to relax due to Spike's growing ( Read more... )

Sneaking in from behind, Stacy bent down and scooped the rabbit up gently, a bright grin on her face as she looked down at the man she'd just watched do a belly flop onto the sand.

"Hey, Xander," she said, struggling not to laugh.

Xander had been looking down at the sand while catching his breath, but at the laugh, he looked up suddenly with a deep blush. Great, one of the last people he wanted to see him like this, but he was used to situations like this at this point. With an embarrassed smile, he sat back up on his knees. "Hey Stacey. Uh..thanks for catching Jesse."

"Hello, Jesse," she said, looking down into the rabbit's wide eyes with a grin.

"I didn't know you have a rabbit."

Jesse just twitched his nose at her...before attempting to chew on her hair.

Xander only sighed, then shrugged as he sat up, getting his legs back under him so he could stand up. "Yeah, I've had him for about a year? He usually is content to just stuff his face in his hutch, but I figured he could use his keep today by being a model. He had other plans apparently. I think I need to get him out more often."

Seeing a fluffy bunny hop towards me, and hearing someone shout for its return, made me do the only natural thing: crouch down and put out my hands to catch the thing. It didn't go as well as I'd hoped. The bunny leapt. I ducked back, and felt something land. I sat up, then stood up carefully, with the bunny balanced on my head.

"This yours?" I asked Xander.

Considering Jesse was the size of a house cat, he was flopping over on to her shoulders too. Xander scrambled to his feet and relieved Polly of the large rabbit on her head. "Oh geez Polly, I'm sorry. He usually doesn't do stuff like that, he's too lazy."

Jesse just wiggled his nose in Xander's arms, looking around curiously.

"Sometimes they put on bursts of speed," I said, grinning. "All animals do. Often precisely when you have the front door open." I reached out gently and let the rabbit sniff my fingers. "So cute!" I looked up at Xander. "You don't often see people taking their rabbits for a walk, though."

"I wouldn't say speed had anything to do with. I think he was more wondering what the butterfly would taste like. He tends to think with his stomach." Unable to help himself, Xander smiled at the compliment to Jesse. "Because I don't think they do. Jesse was supposed to be modeling for me so I could carve a toy for Vala's son. He had other ideas apparently."

Pausing, Carolyn's eyebrow arched up seeing a fluffy white bunny heading her way. She glanced around quickly and then leaned over, barely catching it as it tried to hop right on past her. Hearing a man yelling, she looked over in his direction as she cradled the rabbit close to her. "Is this yours?"

Xander scrambled to his feet to go after Jesse, but drew up short when he saw him happily hanging from a woman's arms. He flushed bashfully, a hand moving up to scratch the back of his neck. "Yeah, that trouble maker is mine. Thanks for catching him."

Flashing the man a warm smile, Carolyn carefully ran a hand over the rabbit's fur. "You're welcome. Your pet seems to be a bit more easy to catch than mine would be." She honestly couldn't imagine anyone just scooping up Max, the direwolf she'd seemed to have inherited from the first version of herself who had been on the island.

She stepped forward and held the rabbit out to him. "I'm Carolyn by the way."

"Yeah, I'm thankful for that. He's about all the pet I think I can manage." Xander said, his grin continuing the bashful trend as he reached out and took the large rabbit from her, while still managing to keep a hand free for her. "I'm Xander. It's nice to meet you."

Alcuin had been approaching from the side, having seen Xander and decided to say hello. Though he felt that they had finally connected somewhat at the New Year's Eve party, he was still making an effort to get to know the people in Giles' life. It was something of a difference, really, given how secretive Anafiel had been about his past for such a long time.

He saw the rabbit take off, and it happened to scurry right in his direction. Reflexes honed by years of practicing swordplay with Joscelin, Alcuin bent and scooped up the rabbit just in time.

"Oh," he said, sounding surprised as he looked down at Xander. "He's so soft."

It took a moment for Xander to regain his breath and then finally get back to his feet. He grinned thankfully when he saw Jesse in friendly arms. "Hey thanks for catching him Alcuin! And yeah, isn't he? Warm too. He was great to have around during the month of winter."

Jesse just looked at Alucin, twitched his nose, and attempted to chew on his hair.

Alcuin stroked the rabbit's fur idly and smiled, looking amused as the creature got a lock of Alcuin's long hair into its mouth.

"Well met, Xander," he said. "I'm glad I could be of service. Did you know that I have a kitten now? He is my first... pet."

"Jesse's my first pet too. Never had one at home. And I bet your kitten isn't as much of a handful as this guy." Xander put out his hands to offer to take him if Alcuin didn't feel like being chewed on. "Though usually he's much better behaved due to his favorite activity being eating."

"I think you lost your rabbit, man," Max notes, cigarette dangling from his lips as he watches the bunny hop right on past him. "You know, I read somewhere they can get up to 45 miles per hour." National Geographic or some shit, his mom loved those brainy magazines. Extracting the cigarette from his lips, he considers the very round rear end of the rabbit in question. "Well, maybe not that one, he's kind of fat."

It took Xander a moment but he managed to scramble to his feet and go after Jesse, catching up to him quickly. Then he returned to Max, large white rabbit hanging unconcerned from his arms. "He's pleasantly plump thank you very much." Xander replied, though with a small grin. "And thanks for the catch by the way." He added sarcastically.

"You caught him," Max points out with a slight smirk and motions to Xander with his cigarette. "I had faith in you, see. I knew you could do it. Good job."

With his free hand he reaches out to pet against one of the rabbit's ears. "What are you doing with a rabbit anyway? In general, not right this minute."

Xander rolled his eyes, though without malice thanks to a chuckling grin. "Thanks. That means alot."

"He's mine. I've had for a year." He replied to the question as Jesse turned his head and twitched his nose at Max for petting his ear. "The island saw fit to give him to me last year, god knows why."
