The movie, all in all, came out to be a respectable hour and a half. Considering the movie had been fucking taped on an island that didn't exactly lend itself to be a movie set, he figured it was a damn big accomplishment all together. That the cast of the movie did a hell of a job with the script he wrote made it even better ( Read more... )

Gideon was doing a pretty fucking good job not seeming like he was nervous. With this being the shit he's always wanted to do - granted, he only wanted to write scripts and not write and direct, but whatever, he took what he could get - he actually really didn't want to hear people think it sucked. He could usually fucking let opinions slide, but that was one thing he didn't think he could shrug off.

He didn't quite mingle, but he did let himself be fucking available in case anyone wanted to talk to him. He figured that was how this kind of shit worked.

As proud as Eden was, it was surprisingly embarrassing, watching herself on screen and knowing everyone else was watching, too. With the lights up, she found herself standing awkwardly by the refreshments. It had come out really, really well -- at least, she thought it had -- and she couldn't figure out if she was nervous or thrilled or both. Either way, everything about tonight was kind of amazing.

It didn't matter, she told herself. Other people's opinions didn't count now. She was proud of what they'd done.

In the end, Gideon knew he mostly cared about what people in the movie thought. If he couldn't even please the people in the fucking movie, he was screwed in general. And while he figured Eden would never badmouth the shit in front of him, he figured maybe he could catch a hint by how she was acting if it was bullshit.

"Got to say, the food's pretty fucking good," he said, walking up to stand next to her. "I'm glad I got you to do it. I'm sure people would've been sick as hell if I tried to do it."

"You did enough tonight," Eden said lightly, biting back a grin. "I mean, a whole movie. But thank you." She wasn't exactly the world's best cook and she knew it, but she was good enough, having learned by necessity when younger.

Besides, no one really cared about the food tonight. It was all about the movie and with reason. "God, Gideon, that was..." She exhaled, shaking her head as she raised up her hands. "I don't know. Amazing."

He'd be fucking lying if he said hearing that shit wasn't pretty awesome. After all the work he put into it, if it wasn't at least watchable, he was going to be pissed.

"Did you expect anything less?" he asked with a broad smirk, looking pleased. It was always fucking easier to joke. "I mean, look at who made it. Look who was in the fucking cast."

Having already seen Gideon's movie a while back, Penny was less focused on it than she was on him as it played, if only because she still thought it was far too awkward watching herself. It wasn't for herself that this was such a big deal, anyway, no matter how many times he'd told her how good she was in it. The whole proud wife thing was probably pretty lame, but it couldn't be helped, either. As far as she was concerned, he'd made a pretty damn great movie.

Afterward, it was difficult not to just stay by his side, but she got a plate of food and went to mingle anyway, smile unfaltering. It was, for the most part, a great group of people that had put this together, and it wasn't like she wouldn't have plenty of time with Gideon later, anyway, and she was never one to turn down good company.

Gideon actually went around to gauge the reaction of people for a little while, but inevitably ended up right back next to Penny. An arm sliding around her as he came up behind her, he leaned in to kiss her cheek.

"You having a good time?" he asked, like he even fucking needed to. He liked to think he could ead her pretty well to know the answer already.

"Absolutely," Penny replied without any hesitation, leaning back against him, head turned over her shoulder a little so she could flash him a smile. If only because of what this whole thing was for, it would've been impossible not to be enjoying herself. "How about you? I mean, it is your big day and all."

"Relieved it's fucking over," he said with a quiet laugh, rolling his eyes. Shit, he had to fucking admit, things really had changed. At one time, this was all that fucking mattered to him. Now it was just nice - a fucking accomplishment. "But good. Fuck, really fucking good, actually."

It was one thing to watch herself on camera for a documentary type show, but completely another to see herself acting in an honest-to-God movie. Even if it looked like one of those low budget indie movies people watched for film street cred, or whatever.

Karen spent most of it sunk low in her seat, alternating between pride and embarassment, still not used to the idea of so many people watching. She was relieved to see it all turned out really well, though, and she didn't look too bad opposite Jack.

She was definitely proud about the movie. It was just getting through people talking to her about it that Karen was nervous about.

"I will admit that I was definitely torn as to who I should root for," Grigg said, coming over to talk to Karen with a smile. He had a seen more than his fair share of movies in his lifetime. Most of them had been of the scifi or droll indie persuasion, but he did like an action flick as much as the next guy.

"Which is definitely a good sign."

"Oh, totally," Karen said, perking up a bit. "It means I didn't suck too hard, right?"

"That's exactly what it means," Grigg assured her. "If this keeps up we might have to start our own island award show. Golden Pineapples."
