In all the times I had taken myself to the trampoline to practice my tumbling, I had never once had someone stop to ask me for a lesson in the art. That it was one of Bill's brothers who ended up being the first to ask did not so much surprise as amuse me; I knew of the twins likely in far greater depth than they knew of me, and I knew from Bill's ( Read more... )

Leon had been just outside the door of the Compound for a few minutes before the redheaded bloke joined the woman on the trampoline. He had been smoking a cigarette and innocently enjoying the 'view,' as it were - for the tumbler, so like someone out of a story about a story Briony would write about a traveling circus in both looks and skill - was startlingly attractive. Once the young man joined her, the grace of the performance was somewhat ruined, but Leon found it entertaining all the same, enough so that after a particularly spectacular fall on the bloke's part, he found himself laughing good-naturedly and applauding. "Bravo!" he grinned and threw down his now-finished cigarette. "Good show, the both of you."

I helped Fred to his feet, laughing, and turned to see the man who'd been smoking nearby drawing closer. "He's a good sport, isn't he," I said, bouncing lightly from one foot to the other to keep my balance. "I admit I'm quite impressed, I've never seen anyone ask to be taught this for fun."

Fred thought he might have strained something in his ankle when he came down wrong on it, but he knew he wouldn't be able to tell until he was back on solid ground-- which, therefore, made it entirely sensible to stay on the trampoline as long as possible. "Glad you think so," he told Phedre, trying to mimic her fluid stance and having a hard time of it. He turned to the other bloke with a rueful grin. "What do you think, ready for the circus yet?"

"If I may say so, miss, I'm surprised at that. You make a rather persuasive argument for joining you." Leon winked, all good humor and grinning broadly. He cocked his head to the side, mock-considering the chap's question. "As a clown, maybe. I think you might need a bit more work to do anything else."

Aly's first assumption had been to greet George before she noticed that his doppelganger was in possession of both ears and had a slightly blonder touch to his hair. That would be his brother, Fred, then.

A grin on her face, Aly climbed onto the trampoline, lingering at the edge in case someone was on the verge of a complicated move, not wanting to get in the way. "You might take care to be wary," she called brightly to the pretty woman. "I've had dealings with that one's brother and I've been warned he's not to be trusted."

I turned with a laugh, instantly conspiratorial. "Just wait till you meet them all, you'll learn none of them can be," I teased, throwing Fred a grin back over my shoulder. "I believe it must be in their blood-- irrepressible charm and a liberal dose of troublemaking."

"It's true!" Fred shouted as he began to jump, staying relatively close to one side but gaining height and momentum with each bounce. "And devilish good looks, naturally!"

Aly pushed up on the edge of the trampoline, walking on her hands before kicking forward, hitting the trampoline with her feet and bouncing up. "Well I guess you never can trust a redhead," she said agreeably, the words punctuated by jumping up and down. Landing in a sitting sprawl, she looked up at her own red-blonde hair, "But I guess that means you can't trust me."

Bill just watched the both of them for a bit, the woman who was essentially his best friend on the island and the younger brother who should have been dead, and grinned. "Oi! Looking good, Freddie!" he called cheerfully, pushing away from the wall of the compound and strolling over to the edge of the trampoline. "You're not going too easy on him, are you?" he added in French to Phedre with a wink.

"And why would I do a foolish thing like that?" I replied with a laugh, executing a quick flip with a twist and throwing a grin over my shoulder at the younger Weasley. "Don't try and copy that, please," I warned him, "as I am sure you intended to try."

"Oi, come on now," Fred protested, "none of that other-languages shite, er, rubbish, sorry," he blurted, looking from Bill to Phedre and back again. "Bad enough I'm up here subjecting myself to ridicule, some other bloke's already compared me to a clown, you could at least mock me so I can understand you. And I was not going to try and copy you," he added to Phedre, though his grin said otherwise.

Bill rolled his eyes good-naturedly at Fred's self-censorship. "Yeah, if you weren't about to try and copy Phedre then I'm a Blast-Ended Skrewt," he said. "I was making sure she wasn't going too easy on you. I solemnly swear any mocking will be delivered in English."

As far as ten-year-olds go, Patricia McFarland was a trampoline champ. Since she'd figured out it's existence on the island and that she could use it pretty much whenever she wanted to, she'd taken advantage of it. As it came into view she was only slightly put out that there were already people on it, until she saw who it was. "Hi Phedre! Hi Fred or George! I can't tell you you are until I get closer!" she called out waving

"Trisha!" I called out, throwing my arms up in welcome. "How are you, dear? There's room for three if you want to come up!" I had only seen her on the trampoline the one time, but she was small and lithe enough that I hardly thought she would crowd us.

"Yeah, you'll have to come up and check my ears," Fred laughed, bouncing further away from the edge to give her room to climb up with them. "How's it going?"

"Don't have to. I can see em from here," she said as she approached the trampoline, dropping the knapsack, that went with her everywhere, onto the ground. She grinned at him and then at Phedre. "Aren't you both big to be playing on it?"
