She had not been very active around the island. She had created many plans of what to do with her time there, of which plans, none came into fruition. She had wanted, once, to create a support group for those who found out that they were from books or films, but once the shock had passed over her own discovery, her plan seemed to fade into the ( Read more... )

Cecily was quite surprised by the voice. She was so entirely wrapped up in her own mind she had not noticed anyone approaching, nor did she see the shadow. She looked up at the unfamiliar face. "Oh, hello," she said. She was confused by his question until she looked back at her journal.

"Oh! No. I--well, I am writing a story, and I cannot seem to think of a way to start it." She looked back up and squinted her eyes so that she may see him better, "Or continue it. Although, I do know how it will end."

"Well, I do not wish to spoil it for you, but I do not believe it shall be entirely happy. However, I am currently unsure of what kind of story it is." She looked back at the mostly blank page and cocked her head, as though by staring at it, a story would magically appear.

"Perhaps a love story. Or maybe an adventure. Or both!"

Briony's own peaceful sojourn along the shore was interrupted by the cry of frustration, an intimately familiar sound to her own ears. Not the voice, no, that was not the aspect of the noise she knew, but the tone. Yes, the tone Briony knew, a knowledge which informed her that the discarded object in the sand would be some writing utensil before she'd wandered close enough to see for certain.

"Are you alright?" she asked the other girl, not wishing to intrude but unable to help her curiosity and concern.

"Oh!" Cecily said, turning abruptly to the girl, "Oh, yes. Nothing at all is severely wrong." She stood, brushing off some sand and coming closer to the stranger. "I merely became frustrated with my pen for it refused to write the story I am sure is in me somewhere."

Of course, a pen. "They can be difficult like that," Briony agreed, a knowing smile curving her lips. "Have you tried a pencil? Those can be kinder and more receptive."

"Why, no," Cecily replied, "I was not aware that there was any difference between the two writing utensils." She looked back at her pages and wondered if she had ever written with a pencil in her journal. In her studies, yes, but it always seemed difficult to write when she was attempting such an unbecoming language as German.

"You okay?" Serena asked, more curious than concerned. She'd already been headed over to say hello to Cecily when the girl spoke, surprising her. It looked like it was probably homework, though, and that was a sentiment Serena could fully understand. At least the term was nearly over.

Upon seeing Serena, Cecily immediately brightened. She gestured towards her journal, "Merely trying to write a story, but nothing seems to be coming out," she admitted. She crossed her arms in frustration and kicked her journal a little with her closest foot.

"What kind of a story?" Serena sank down to sit near Cecily, head tipping to the side in interest. "I didn't know you wrote." Judging by her behavior toward the journal, that was a debatable fact anyway.

"I have not in quite some time. I used to keep an account of everything that happened in my every day life, or things that I wished would happen if my life were very enthralling," she remembered all of the letters she had written for herself from Ernest. "I believe I was a story teller all along." She had created an entire relationship with a man she had never met, and indeed, that must take some creative skill.

"But I am unsure of where this very story is going. Now that I wish to say something for the sake of enjoyment, I truly have nothing to say."

"Wow, look at you," says Jim, taking in the sight of Cecily in her new bathing suit as he quietly approaches her on the sand. "I feel like I should pick you up and take you home with me, looking like that."

Cecily looked up from her unfruitful writing and gave Jim a large smile. "I do not think one would be able to protest such an action. Especially not from such a handsome young man as yourself." She closed her book and lay down as seductively as she knew how. However, she could not look up at Jim without squinting a little, so she was most uncertain of how effective her pose would be.

"You make it really tempting, let me tell you," he says, but he resists the urge to hoist her into his arms and take her home. "So what are you working on, anyway?"

"A story," she replied with a coy smile, grasping her journal and holding it against her body as though she did not want Jim to see. It was a fun game, hiding things from the man who seemed to know everything there was to know about her, and it was silly to think that she would have written anything she did not want him to see.
