Delighted to meet you all

May 06, 2009 17:51

She was so tired. Her whole body hurt and ached in places that she had never thought existed. The pain had stretched and hurt her, changed her inside and out but this time she wasn't broken inside, this time she was happy. Delighted even. This time at the end of it all she had two beautiful little fairhaired children crying angrily at her or ( Read more... )

Chase was heading to Delirium's side, labcoat still crisp even though he felt like he'd been wearing it constantly since he'd been working and avoiding home. "And here I'd been looking forward to delivering your kids," he noted while shaking his head. "And out they popped while I wasn't around."

Your kids. Even hearing it out loud was strange. Stranger than armadillo ice cream and purple men with televisions carved into their stomachs. Those sorts of things were normal, holding her son- her son- in her arms was abnormal but perfect. She hadn't been this happy since well since Delight.

"I'd say I'd do it again for you but I'm quite tired and I don't think there's enough room to push them back in. Besides, I like them where they are." Del said happily, smiling softly at Daniel who finally-finally let go and yawned. Covering back up, she lifted him and put him against her as she gently rubbed her back. "I can see them now, hold them... they're not as scary as I thought they would be."

"Once they get cleaned up, they're not, no," Chase agreed with a gentle smile, settling as close as he could without disturbing either the children or her. "I mean, before that, they could star in their own horror flick," he deadpanned. "And how are you feeling? Physically, for now."

"Squirmy little red things but my beautiful squirmy angry little red things. I'd forgotten how small humans are," Del said holding Daniel close as she rubbed his back, enjoying the feeling of how close he was to her. It was different now that she could see them and hold them. It was all so very different. She had changed but it was a change she could live with. "Sore and tired but happy. So happy. I'd forgotten what this feels like, it's been so long... would you like to hold him? He might throw up on you, he likes doing that I think."

Stephen really liked Del, sure, but that hadn't stopped him from returning to the basement to change out of...well, everything. He would never step foot on the elevator again.

But again, he liked Del, and sometimes he even liked children, so he figured he should make an appearance. He peeked in, more somberly than usual, cast both parents a nervous look.

"So...congratulations." He hadn't gotten that far during or after the actual event.

{either. both. whoever. >.>)

Del smiled happily at Stephen adjusting her top back into place before lifting Daniel up in her arms and placed him so that she could burp him. Rubbing his back gently, she kissed the side of his fondly.

"Stephen! Your shoes look baby free," Delirium said happily greeting him, glancing at Asher and hoping he wasn't actually trying to juggle their child.

Asher had managed to get Celia all swaddled up, which did help settle down her fussing, but now she looked like a giant pink burrito. With a tiny little face.

He spared Stephen's shoes a quick glance when Del mentioned them, shrugging it off before retaking his seat, gently cradling Celia in his arms. "Congratulations on the spotless footwear."

It was weird. That was really the only word for it, like Del had been pregnant for so long that Stephen never really expected actual kids to come from it.

Plus, it was quiet and calm, no more screaming and crying (it was possible that all of that had been in Stephen's head).

"Thank you," he replied automatically as he inched a little closer. "They're doing okay?"

The way he was acting, you'd never know he had children of his own.

Word travels fast in a village of four hundred. Especially when your boyfriend works at the clinic. Between classes, Dick stops to trim two birds of paradise and brings them with him to see Delirium.

He stops at the door, both captivated and unnerved by the small pink and blue bundles. Children, he loves, but babies seem too fragile, too tiny and innocent for the world he's spent half his life in.

Chris had bought her those a lifetime ago when she was his girl and the wind was their mistress. Words spoken like kisses, each syllable caressing the others soul and lifting them. She'd loved Chris, she'd loved Bob too but this, the way she felt now, was completely different. She Loved Daniel and Abby so much.

Smiling at Dick, Robin, she adjusted her top and lifted Daniel up so his face buried against her shoulder. Rubbing his back softly, she kissed his head softly and tapped the side of the bed beside her.

"You looked like you'd been caught with your hand in the cookie jar, all timid and scared. They're not going to bite you know, not yet anyway they don't have teeth. They might throw up on you though," Del said with a silly but happy and sane smile. She felt so good.

"Maybe," Dick agrees, taking a step in the door with the long stemmed flowers held out in front of him. If innocence is the cookie jar, or goodness.

"You look beautiful, princess, and you seem happy. Are you?"

Delirium's crazy, but in the long windy twisted way that Bruce was at her brother's funeral, she's family. He wants her to be happy. And sane.

"Yes, very." Delirium said smiling brightly. Now that she could touch them, now that she could see them- she just felt so different. Happier. Delighted. "Tired and very sore but happy. It wasn't so bad this time changing, it didn't hurt as much. Would you like to hold him? His name is Daniel, for my brother Dream and for Danica."

This was Joey's fourth trip into the room already; in and out, in and out, not saying a word to anyone yet until it was all set up. Lots of paintings he'd done himself of farmyard animals, camels, cows, all the really smelly ones that had been with Jesus when he'd been born, because if Del couldn't get to the barn then the barn would have to come to her. He hadn't been able to find any gold or myrrh so he'd gotten a sheet and painted the words on it and he lay that over the foot of her bed. A giant WELCOME BABYS banner hung over the door. A tower of baby and kids books came in next, all read and donated by himself and a babygrow with his face on it that the clothes box had spewed out. For some reason it had his sister Gina and his nephew Michael on it, as well as a hot blond Joey didn't recognise and there were palm trees behind them but it had his name over the top of it and he was dead centre so he didn't question the whys and wherefores too much ( ... )

Del just watched silently as Joey came in and out, leaving bits and pieces in the room before wandering off again. By the time Joey came back in again, with a crown and a cape, Joey had missed the sneak peak of breast as she redid her top and put Daniel against her shoulder to soothe him. Daniel fussed at her, wrinkling his face and grumbling. Just like his father. Smiling at Joey, Del cradled Daniel so he could listen to the story as well.

"I really liked that Joey, although I'm not a virgin otherwise Asher and I wouldn't have had babies. I can explain it to you if you like, I'm sure I have a banana somewhere," Del said wondering if he'd allow her to pop his condoms again. She had enjoyed that. Although maybe not around the twins. They didn't seem to like very loud noises.

Asher stared blankly, expression sort of glazing over even further with each pass into the room Joey had made. By the time a book had ended up on his knee, he knew there wasn't much he could do but sit back and suck it up. It was bound to get really fucking weird.

He mumbled quietly to Celia, explaining that the freak with the crown was her crazy uncle Joey, even if she wasn't remotely interested in what was going on or what he had to say. He supposed he should probably get used to that last one at some point.

As Joey put on his little skit, Asher watched, horrified and fascinated, all at the very same time. It was like the Bible on crack, a version he probably wouldn't have minded reading. And he'd sort of love to see Joey's creative interpretation on the story of Creation.

When it was all over, Asher blinked. Was he supposed to say something? "Uh... Wow."

Yeah, that would work.

Since they both seemed to think that was it (as if!) Joey closed the breast-feeding book to save for later. He'd definitely read it aloud at some point but he'd seen some pretty weird things in there that probably needed more mulling over before he went public anyway.

"That's okay," he assured Del quietly before looking over at Asher and flapping a hand. "That was the thing! The thing I was working on. And not one word was theasaurasasised!" His roommate had been right after all; speak from the heart and Joey had done just that.

He seemed torn between which baby to see first but he finally chose the one in Asher's arms because of all the pink. Pretty, pretty pink. He peered down. "Awwww." Peered down some more. Wow, that was a lot of pink. "He's so cute. Is he gonna break a lotta girls hearts or what? III think sooo!"

John stuck his head inside the door, careful to note that all was well and nobody was asleep or screaming bloody murder before he came the rest of the way inside.

"Hey," he whispered to mother and child, padding towards the bed like he might break the peacefulness of the scene if he was too loud. "Hey mama, you up for a visitor?"

Delirium shifted Daniel so he was pressed against her shoulder. His blue-green eyes wrinkling up, grumbling slightly as she rubbed his back gently. Del smiled and nodded happily at brother Alice as he whispered and padded into the room. Normally silenced hurt her inside and out but now it was perfect. Blissful.

"Ahuh, Daniel's all fed and I think he's finished up spitting things up on me. He likes doing that," Delirium said adjusting his little blue and rainbow hat. "Want to hold him Uncle Alice?"

"Can I?" His wife might have been the one bursting with hormones right now, but damned if John's eyes didn't tear up at the offer. "I'd love to. Frell, he's so little."

"Of course you can Alice but your head man has to keep his hands to himself unless he's corporeal and then he could. But only then," Del said, kissing his little head before she gently and very carefully passed him across to John. Del didn't let go until she was sure that he had him safely. Daniel was a lot less wriggly and squirmy than his sister. Del wondered if it had been Abby that had kicked her all those times and made her need to pee. "Make sure you support his head. He's very small yes but I'm told that's normal for humans. They start off small and pink and wriggly and grow into well people. I just started as people."
