Gideon was surprised he was coming off as calm as he fucking was with this shit. Inwardly, he was a ball of nerves, which didn't get any better as he fucking stood up front. Everyone was gathered in a halfway decent set-up on the beach, and he knew all eyes were on him. While he didn't usually mind that shit, suddenly it was all in a different ( Read more... )

Beat knew that chick Penny was a good friend of Serena's, so he ain't surprised they were at this weddin'. He'd even cleaned up for it, more than usual, 'cause even he knew this kinda event really called for it. Ignorin' the fact the guy that looked like him was lurkin' around, he made his way to get some food an' mostly people watch. It was how he always survived these kinda things, an' he doubted that'd change any time soon.

Serena always managed to find someone or other she knew in every crowd, invariably flitting off to chatter and laugh at any party. Surfacing again now, she bounced up to Beat, hooking a hand against his arm. "Come on, come have fun," she urged. "It's a wedding, not a funeral."

Beat knew she'd pop up by him eventually. With Serena, he learned real quick it was easier for her to find him than the other way around. Lookin' at her an' grinnin', he answered, "I am havin' fun. See? Even got food."

Pushing needlessly up on her toes, she pressed a quick kiss to his cheek. "Food is fun, that's true," she allowed, playfully grudging. "I guess I can let you go on this one."

As soon as Gideon bent down to kiss Penny, William burst into applause and cheers. Part of him ached a little when Penny said her vows, because it was a reminder that he could never make her as happy as Gideon did. But that feeling quickly disappeared as he looked at the smile on her face. He never thought Penny would be truly happy to be anyone's wife, but he was quite glad to be proved wrong.

At the reception, he quickly got his hands on some kind of drink. He had no idea what it was, but it was delicious and it made him feel warm and content as he sipped it. He milled about, smiling and waving at people he had seen around the Island, enjoying the beautiful day and the happy atmosphere.

Jenny wasn't well acquainted with either the bride or groom, but she had loved Almost Famous, and being asked to make a wedding dress for Penny Lane had been flattering to say the least. In the end, she'd wound up pretty proud of it, too, and the dress she had made for the maid of honor as well. Despite knowing only a handful of people there, she did have Jason as her date, which made it a lot less awkward than it could have potentially been. The party had come together well, anyway, and she never could have said no to that.

"Hey, I hear you're the one who made the... dresses and stuff," Matt said when he saw Jenny, giving a vague gesture and managing to sound both impressed and nonchalant at the same time. "You're pretty good."

Smiling a little at both Matt's approach and the compliment, Jenny nodded, subconsciously glancing over to where Penny stood. "Yeah, that was me," she confirmed, nodding. "Thanks. Clothes are... kind of my thing." She'd made her own dress, too, something that might have been made obvious by her smoothing one hand over its waist, just a little too confident to seem self-conscious. She wasn't one to brag, but she had done well and she knew it.

Matt glanced down to check out her own dress, just long enough not to be creepy about it, and nodded. "It shows. At least you've found something you're good at to keep you busy around here, huh?"

While, once upon a time, Lucy'd had her differences with Penny, now, she wouldn't have missed this for the world. She and Gideon were just right together; that was more than apparent, even in just the way they looked at other. It wasn't as if there wasn't anything difficult in this -- Penny had that history with Jude, after all, and Gideon tended to remind her of Desmond's having disappeared -- but she wasn't going to dwell on that. Instead, having congratulated the two, she was going to enjoy the party, with Ryan at her side. The newly married couple weren't the only ones things had been looking up for lately, after all.

For his own part, Ryan wasn't all that comfortable, but he did his best to hide that fact for now. This wedding, at least, wasn't so formal as the last one he'd attended, which made it that much easier to handle, even if he still barely recognized anyone around. Aside from his own face, which never got any less weird. "Not bad, as weddings go," he noted, scratching idly at the back of his neck. "They look really happy."

"They do," Lucy agreed with a nod, a small, wry smile on her face. "They've always been really good together. That was nice." It was nice to see them actually work out, too, when most of what she'd observed tended towards the opposite. Sipping her drink, she glanced over briefly at where the band was playing, then turned back to Ryan. "And the music's great, unsurprisingly."

It was more observation than hint, but Ryan held out a hand to her all the same, smiling. "Wanna dance?" he asked. There was no use wasting good music, after all.

The last wedding Daphne attended had been her own. It hadn't even been all that long ago -- just a few years, if that. She'd yet to figure out how to account for the time differences since she'd shown up and, quite frankly, she didn't have the patience to.

Suffice it to say, she'd been married once and now she wasn't. Oh, there hadn't been a divorce, per se, but landing on a tropical island where your husband had never even heard of you before was bound to put a dampener on any relationship.

And so, though she was certainly happy for both Gideon and Penny, she couldn't help but feel a certain sense of loss, as well. Milling around the party, glass in hand, she only hoped that they would have better luck than she did.

"So that was nice," Matt offered, a little lamely. It was a wedding, they tended to be. He didn't know either of the newlyweds, but Daphne had wanted him to come, and it wasn't like he was going to say no, since... it was nice. He hadn't been to one of these in years (not as long ago as his own wedding, but long enough) and this one had at seemed a lot less tedious (though also a lot coarser) than he remembered them being.

Of course, it probably had to be for them to be there at all, since Daphne had a much lower tolerance for tedium than he did.

Daphne's response was somewhat delayed, as though she hadn't quite caught onto the fact that Matt had even spoken to her. After a second, she blinked a few times and looked up at him, almost looking surprised.

"Yeah," she agreed, nodding curtly. "Short, sweet and chock full of profanity. It was like a wedding on HBO; the only thing it was missing were the five other wives and a couple of gangsters."

She forced a smile on her face though it softened into something a little more genuine soon enough. It had, after all, been a nice ceremony.

"Look at you, though," she added, taking a step back as to better appreciate what Matt was wearing. "You're suited up."

"Well, it is a special occasion," Matt said, waving it off and smiling a little in spite of himself. Whether he'd fallen out of the practice or not, he still knew his way around a suit but good.

"You look tense." He paused, not quite frowning. "Tenser than usual."
