The nights have been getting longer of late. This means, of course, that baby Reynald is getting into something that resembles a consistent sleep schedule, allowing his parents more than a few scant and scattered hours of rest each night ( Read more... )

The sound of a child's laughter drew Alain downstream from where he himself had been fishing with varying success. He didn't know the man, or the wolf, or the child he saw, but he joined them all the same, a pleasant smile on his face. "It looks to be that you're doing better than I, and he is doing better than us both," he said gesturing to the laughing boy.

"The world belongs to him, I think," Robb says with an easy smile. "Or at least he's not learned otherwise, so I'm not sure it makes a difference. Have you had any luck?"

Alain's smile broadens at that. "I think that makes it his then," he said mildly. At the question he held up a slim rod that he'd skewered the 3 fish he had caught. "Enough for super, not enough for keeping. The fish aren't as hungry this late in the day, say true."

"Supper for one of you?" Robb hazards. Three fish would not go so far in Summerfell.

Honour sniffed the group out, and Edmund was content to follow. Not signing up for school for yet another term left giant, gaping holes in his days. He could fill them up however he wished, but he liked time with family best. And the Starks were that.

"Are they biting?" he asked curiously.

"Surprisingly well," Robb answers, gesturing him over. "I think his laughing is lulling them into thinking it's safe."

"They can hear through the water?" Ed had never met any creatures of the sea who could understand speech through water, but perhaps laughter was different. "He does seem quite happy."

"I have no idea," Robb says with a shrug. "I know too much noise frightens them away."

Nymeria, half-wild though she was, nonetheless did not seem to have any issue or hesitation about being around the youngest generation of Starks.

Nor, for that matter, did Arya. She didn't have to want any to like babies.

"Da catching fish?" she asked, presumably of Reynald.

Reynald burbles happily, the widening of his smile and his pale eyes suggesting that seeing his aunt is the New Most Wonderful Thing in the Whole World.

"That's the idea," Robb says cheerfully.

"The idea?" Arya said, lightly planting herself down beside Reynald. "That mean you haven't caught any yet?"

Robb gestures to the basket. "See for yourself. It won't feed all of us, but it's getting there."

Eddara is attempting to sneak up on her uncle having escaped her mother, her day has been quite difficult as she is still not allowed to claim a puppy from Lady's litter and her drum has been confiscated for some trifling offence.

She peers into the basket of fish and wrinkles her nose. "Stinky," she announces wrinkling her nose and then she plops herself down to watch Reynald carefully.

Robb is probably fortunate fishing does not require a lot of concentration. "Yes," he agrees mildly. "How are you, Eddara?"

Eddara looked shifty. "Am good!" she insisted as if anyone might say otherwise. She leaned over and poked at her cousin but he just giggled which puzzled her, the other one always cried. "Good baby," she offered grinning at Robb.

Reynald thinks this is a brilliant game and squeals in delight when Eddara pokes him, making a clumsy grab for her hand. "Very good baby," Robb agrees. "Be nice to him, he likes you. Does your mother know where you are?"

Robin would never avoid those with infants and small children for to do so would be cowardly. Yet he can't deny that the sight of a babe makes him think of Marian. But he wanders in the direction of the sound of the burbling baby laughter wondering whose child it is and smiling to see Robb and his son by the water.

"Starting his lessons early, I see," Robin commented with a smile for his friend.

"Giving his mother a chance to rest," Robb counter, laughing. "If she wants it. It's relaxing, being here. How are you?"

"Well enough," Robin said crouching to have a closer look at Reynald who is cooing happily at the air. "He seems a merry sort," he observed - Robin had met Robb's niece and heard his nephew so this at least seems a pleasant change.

"He is," Robb agrees, as Reynald squints up his face to get a better look at Robin, then smiles widely. "I've never seen anything quite like it, but he does seem incredibly pleased with the world."
