Bunnysitting

Saffron had never owned a pet. She remembered wanting one when she'd been younger, a pretty little cat in a shop window that had practically begged to come home with her - or at least that's what it had seemed like to Saffron, back when she was young and innocent and her real name was still what she answered to. But her parents had said no, and ( Read more... )

Jaye didn't LIKE the rabbit, but she sure as hell recognized it. It was the only soft and cuddly animal she had allowed to get anywhere near her since she'd arrived. And for a while before that, too. Jaye didn't endear herself to animals, and they were no friend to her.

But that didn't mean she was okay with someone unfamiliar fondling Lloyd's bunny.

"Who the hell are you?" she demanded.

To be fair, it wasn't as though Saffron had never had a woman address her in such a fashion. But it certainly hadn't happened since being on the island, and as far as Saffron knew she hadn't stolen anyone's significant other or otherwise done anything to warrant such an approach.

She scooped Playboy into her arms and looked up at the girl with an arched eyebrow, calm but mildly annoyed. "I'm Helen," she replied cooly. "Who are you?"

Helen. Helen? What the hell kind of a name was HELEN? Especially on a woman who looked like THAT. It was annoying, that someone that hot got a name so retarded but made it work, and it was doubly annoying that Jaye didn't remember ever hearing this chick's name before.

"Why are you fondling Lloyd's bunny?" she asked, acting as though a question was never asked of her.

So the snippy girl knew Lloyd, and well enough to be irritated that Saffron had Playboy. Saffron had a pretty good guess as to who she was, then. "I'm keeping him while Lloyd's in class," she said, smirking ever so slightly, slight enough that it could possibly be missed. "I take it you're a friend of his?"

Bill's recently gotten back from his camping trip, and finds himself wanderin' the Compound like he's gotta get reacquainted. It ain't long before he finds somethin' else he'd rather get reacquainted with. Or someone.

"Helen, you know you got a rabbit tryin' to eat your leg?"

At the sound of that familiar voice, Saffron looked up, and she absolutely lit up with a dazzling smile when she saw Bill standing there. Without a word she stood up, took a second to make sure Playboy was all right and not going anywhere, and then swept over to Bill and threw her arms around him, not with enough force to knock him over but enough to make an impact.

Bill laughs, finding himself smilin' just as wide, and wraps his arms around her, lifting her into a hug.

"Helen, I missed ya," he murmurs, kissin' her neck and cheek 'til he gets to her mouth to give her a proper greeting.

"I missed you too, honey," Saffron replied, as though he couldn't have plainly seen that already, and then Bill's lips were on hers and she couldn't say anything more for a long moment.

She stayed close after the kiss ended, not wanting to let go of him just yet. "When did you get back?"

Nick was used to seeing strange things around the compound. Today's strange thing, apparently, was a rabbit. That wasn't all too strange, really, but the island seemed to be mostly populated by pet dogs and cats. Rabbits were something entirely different.

"Careful," Nick said as he walked in, seeing Helen with the rabbit. "Sometimes those suckers bite, and their teeth are no fun at all." Not like he'd gotten chomped on by a rabbit as a kid. Not at all.

Saffron glanced down at the rabbit, who was apparently taking a break from exploring, snuggling up against her thigh. "Oh, Playboy's a sweetheart," she assured Nick with a smile. "How've you been, Nick?"

"You say that now," Nick said, "they're sweethearts until they chew you up. Or your stuff." Or maybe he was just confusing rabbits with, well, Utica. Nick leaned up against the arm of a chair, watching the rabbit snuggle against Helen. "I've been pretty good. How's the club going?"

"It's been going very well," Saffron replied. "You and Karen should stop by again sometime. I know Warrick would be glad to see you there."

"Alright," Owen said, upon entering the rec room, spotting Helen and her rabbit on the floor, "Am I going to have to ask why you've got a rabbit, or is it another one of those weird island things that no one's properly explained yet?"

"Well, it's sort of one of those weird island things, if you count the fact that it showed up as one of those reminders from home that a lot of us get from time to time," Saffron replied, smiling up at Owen with friendly amusement. "Right now, though, I'm just watching him while his owner is in class."

Owen wasn't sure what was stranger, that someone's rabbit had suddenly appeared from home or that Helen had voluntarily agreed to rabbit-sit. But honestly, it was all sort of normal compared to everything he'd encountered back at Torchwood.

"So people let their pets run about everywhere else, but the classroom's off limits?" Owen asked, "It all seems a bit backwards, if you ask me."

Playboy was still rubbing his chin on Saffron's thigh, and she smoothed a hand along the soft fur on his back. "What's that nursery rhyme about Mary's lamb following her to school and it being against the rules? I think it's kind of like that," she said. "Besides, I don't mind keeping Playboy a bit, he's so gorram cute."

It didn't take much to halt Mimi in her tracks, mostly because she got tired easily. When she decided to flop down in the doorway to the rec room and go no further, though, it still seemed a little unusual. Sasan frowned as he bent over to scoop her up, but it only lasted until he saw the source of the sudden drama and he smirked..

"She's managed to get used to the Compound cats, but that's a new one," he said, watching Helen and the rabbit.

Saffron smiled when she saw Sasan and Mimi, and stood with the rabbit in her arms. "This is Playboy," she said, going over to them, but keeping a bit of distance in case one of the animals decided to freak out for some strange reason. "He belongs to my friend Lloyd."

persian_sass March 24 2009, 07:45:44 UTC
"Classy name," he mused, referring about 50/50 to both Playboy and Lloyd. Still, he was a cute little critter, at least as far as these things went. "Bet he's great for picking up guys."

Mimi, for her part, was alternately glancing between the rabbit and the ceiling, but she was clearly ill at ease. Her 'agitated' look was remarkably similar to her look for 'hungry', but Sasan was starting to understand them more and more, much to his annoyance.

"Definitely doesn't hurt," Saffron replied with a little smirk. She didn't exactly need any help in that department, but it was fun to change things up once in a while. "How's Mimi doing?"
