It didn't seem like a very different day when I woke up that morning, but glancing over I quickly realized there was something sitting by where I was sleeping that I was relatively certain hadn't been there before. I put on my glasses blinking a few times before reaching for the two items. No, they definitely hadn't been there before. The sketch ( Read more... )

Marion had actually taken it easy on the alcohol, but it had only turned up a couple of days ago, so she hadn't actually had an opportunity to make much of a dent in the supply on her own. Sharing was an option too, but she didn't want to do too much of that, just in case a situation like with Buck cropped up again. It hadn't this last time, but that was probably only because at the time he had been a woman and Marion just didn't stand for that kind of thing. Or sit, either, when it came down to it.

It was close on nightfall when she wandered down the beach, Stolichnya in hand. She had only just opened this one, and it tasted as good as she expected - rough and burning her throat as it went down. She passed by a kid who looked like he was having a very sober time sketching, and stopped, wondering if he was any good.

"How can you sketch something that moves?" she asked, indicating the ocean with a nod of her head and a curious quirk of her mouth.

"It's pretty difficult actually. I'm sort of..I guess picturing it at a certain point." It was then it struck me how late it was as I could see the sunset reflected in the water. "Wow, I guess time got away from me."

I stood up and stretched slightly figuring it was past time for some food.

"How long have you been out here, kid?" Marion asked. He probably wasn't more than ten years younger than her, but the key part of that sentence was younger, so she could justifiably call him 'kid' if she wanted to.

A habit she had probably picked up from Indy.

"Since pretty early this morning. I've managed to stay in the shade most of the day." I had not desire for a sunburn even if it had been nice to stay out for most of the day.

"I started out over there by that rock and then moved over here to get a better view of that part of the shore."

Haven't seen him in a couple days, and I know for a fact it's gonna freak him out to see me in a silver swimsuit and with a new pair of tits with no warning, but that doesn't stop me from sliding up to him and dropping down next to him in the sand, bare legs folded up indian-style and my hair hanging in damp clumps around my face.

"Wow, you're good."

I jumped slightly startled as the woman sat beside me. "It's..it's just a hobby." I glanced down at the picture. I mean it was okay I guess, but if someone liked it that was pretty nice.

"How long were you out swimming?" I didn't remember seeing anyone in the water when I was working, but I suppose it was possible there was a rock or something in the way blocking my view.

"I was swimmin' in the lagoon, just 'round the bend, there," I say, pointing a finger off down the shore, past the treeline.

"Everything's just a hobby here. Don't bullshit me, man."

I couldn't help but grin. "I suppose you're right about that." There was something about this woman that was so familiar, and yet I couldn't put my finger on what it was.

"Oh, I was over there when I first came out this morning, but then I moved to this side." It was possible to see a bit of where she was pointing too, but there wouldn't have been any way I would have noticed her.
