Kon groaned softly when he woke up. It was still that time just before dawn when the entire world was quiet. Except that Kon could hear the chittering of squirrels and the calls of birds. He tried to roll over, but his feet tangled in the sheets and he kicked something off the bed as he was trying to get them out. That woke him up completely ( Read more... )

After his morning run and training, Dick takes off for the rocks with his new Christmas hang gliders. Tim being a genius can be annoying as hell, but sometimes, like these little beauties, it's so worth the self-righteous Bat-smugness. Not that he couldn't have built them himself, but Tim did it faster, better, and more precisely, giving Dick time to do the things he dpes well, and also giving Tim a project that made him smile a little when no one was looking.

He's been waiting for the snow to melt to try them out. That and people to try them out with. Even though he's going to join Tim in reaming Kon for ditching training, he'll be doing it with a smile.

The problem with gliders is you need somewhere to jump from and it helps if there's some wind. Dick hefts the two gliders down to the beach and scouts the rocks a little ways down. When someone walks over, he turns and grins, "Want to come fly with me?"

mini-EP, great time to meet him. Feel free to LT/ST. I will be. <3

Dick. Kon's smile didn't falter, but he was a little wary. He'd been expecting Tim to come find him and where one was, the other wasn't too far behind. Honestly, Dick didn't scare him as much as Tim did sometimes. He got that creepy look and...

What was Dick asking again? Something about flying?

"Of course I'm want to fly with you, Dick. What kind of a dumb question is that?" Just the thought of flying made his heart ache a little. It was the one thing he'd never been stopped from doing. Not even when he didn't have his powers, because he had the Legion ring. It seemed that here, the Legion ring didn't work the way it was supposed to. He glanced up at the sky and nodded. "Of course I do."

"I ought to take you up and dangle you by your toes for ditching training," Dick says, but it's a good-natured growl. Kon hasn't been here that long, there's a lot going on, and unlike Tim, he actually believes in unscheduled recreational fun time.

"Lucky you for you I left my grapples and lines in the gym. Where you should've been." He cuffs Kon lightly in the back of the head. Tim's his team leader and scolding for missed training is his job. "So we'll fly instead. You ever been in a glider?"

He can see the ache in Kon's eyes for flying. He sees it in Karo's when they train, and Cassie's sometimes when she's thinking about flying. They all have things they miss.

Kon laughed and ducked his head away from Dick's hand. "I needed a little fun," was the entirety of his explanation. He wasn't sure whether Tim told Dick about Clark. He wasn't even sure how much Tim knew about what Clark had said. He'd only really told Cassie and he was pretty sure she hadn't said anything. But after the last two weeks and between time travel and Clark and Bart, he needed a party.

"Besides, you and I both know that as soon as Tim makes it down here, he's going to have my hide anyway. I'm pretty sure he'd rather do the dirty work himself."

He glanced at the thing and shook his head. "Never needed one."

The return of beautiful weather was nothing if not the perfect excuse for mixing up some of her newly acquired gin with freshly squeezed grapefruit juice, throwing on a bikini, and heading down to the shore for some very welcome sunbathing. Sure, the deep freeze had only lasted a month or so, but it felt like for-bloody-ever when one spent the whole of it living in a yurt.

She didn't get far before she heard the sounds of quite a few of her fellow inhabitants having the same idea. As Bernice was not one to pass up the chance for an impromptu party, she headed in the direction of the fun with a towel, her booze, and a very big smile.

"Hey," Bill greeted cheerfully when he spotted Bernice whilst they were on a break from playing. He headed over to her, sliding his guitar around to his back as he walked. "Decided to join the party?"

Benny smiled warmly at him, toasting him silently with her drink before taking a sip. "Have you ever known me to turn down an opportunity? Sadly, I think I must have just missed you playing. I would've liked to have heard that."

"We might do a bit more later," Bill replied. It depended mostly on how Roger was feeling, whether he had the energy. "I always enjoy our month of snow, but it's bloody nice to have the sunny weather back, isn't it?"

Women in bikinis may have described many women on the island, but that list would not have been complete with Summer Roberts who had squealed with delight at the warm weather before throwing on her favorite blue bikini and running to the water with delight. She was already dripping wet when she noticed the beach party and scurried over with excitement, not sure if she'd know anyone but not caring.

The sunshine was back and Summer could not have been happier.

Bart wasn't going to end up in the water, no matter what Kon said, so he planned to sit back and watch. Conversation was a plus, but he didn't want to end up sick like the last time he'd gone swimming. Which was why he was camped out near the food, as well. Everyone knew you weren't supposed to go swimming immediately after eating. His plan was to not allow the prescribed half hour to come about.

And be social. Kon had practically ordered that part. He wondered how many conversations the hero of Hawaii was going to get because of his missing belly-button. He just got mistaken for some kind of alien, because of his coloring. It was the eyes. Hardly anyone had seen gold eyes, and in the sunlight, they almost seemed to glow like polished coins.

Joey wasn't camped near the food, but she was near it as she wondered why she was here. Conner was surrounded by people, the social butterfly she'd feared he truly was. Joey did not understand social people or their friendly behavior.

"Hey." Joey said quietly to the guy she'd noticed near the food. It wasn't much of an opener but she was trying to cut down on the bile and unfortunately that took away most of her conversation starters.

Bart gave her a smile, noting the nerves and toning it down just a little. He was supposed to be friendly, after all. "You get the one-man ambush too?" he asked, nodding over at Kon and his admirers. "Guy soaks up attention like he does the sun, and can't understand why some folks actually like being alone."

Joey half smiled, looking down a bit ruefully. "Apparently I don't know enough people and with it being the new year I made some resolutions to be be more friendly. I know, it's horribly cliche and frankly I wouldn't want to talk to me either which is not much of an endorsement I know but the water is too crowded and you look about as happy as I feel so hi." Despite the fact that Joey was in fact babbling, the words flowed out of her mouth smoothly, almost like a rehearsed speech.

Monet wasn't getting used to the sight of the smooth flat skin on Kon's stomach. She'd been staring at him on and off now for the past ten minutes but it still wasn't getting old- he didn't have a belly button. It was just...weird.

Shaking her head, she turned her attention briefly to Dick before sliding back down against the towel. Closing her eyes she smiled happily and lazily at the glorious feel of sand between her toes and the sun on her skin. Arching her back she was quite enjoying herself when someone, either accidental or not, threw cold water on her.

"You are dead." Monet swore in french glaring at the offender.

Monet might have been glaring, but Bill was grinning. "Is that so? he replied in French, empty cup held incriminatingly in one hand. "You look amazing in that, by the way."

"I look even more amazing out of it," Monet replied in a tone that still bordered homocidal anger. Wiping away where the water had pooled in her belly button, Monet glared up at him before rolling back and onto her feet in one smooth motion. Not that many people knew quite how quick or agile she was. "Just because you compliment me doesn't mean I'm going to let you get away with that little stunt."

"I remember," Bill said, and attempted to look sheepish as Monet got to her feet. "All right then, what will it be?" He spread his hands, leaving his fate in hers. "Forty lashes? Or am I to be burnt at the stake?"
