Kon groaned softly when he woke up. It was still that time just before dawn when the entire world was quiet. Except that Kon could hear the chittering of squirrels and the calls of birds. He tried to roll over, but his feet tangled in the sheets and he kicked something off the bed as he was trying to get them out. That woke him up completely ( Read more... )

Kon wandered out of the water, surfboard in hand. His stomach was starting to rumble and his fingers were starting to wrinkle because of the water. That meant that it was time for food. And time to see whether he was going to get into an argument with Tim. Eventually he was going to show up because Kon had skipped out on training. Not that he really regretted it. In his opinion, they all needed a little bit of fun.

Tim especially. Or maybe Bart especially, but definitely Tim.

Upon hearing music playing just down the beach from her hut, Cecily decided top venture out and take a look at all that was happening. Seeing all the food and fun, she noted that it must be a party, although it had either just started or not actually be happening yet for she noticed that there was hardly anyone there.

She did notice a man coming out of the water though, one whom she had never seen before, and so her interest was a bit peaked. It was even more so when she noticed a certain missing part, and felt compelled to comment on it.

"Sir, you seem to be missing your navel." She said the words with much surprise, a small smirk on her face. She wondered what kind of a man was this-- had he not been born from a woman's stomach? She only vaguely knew where the belly button came from, as she did not really know much in the matters of pregnancy, still she knew that every man ought to have one.

"It's not really missing if I never had one in the first place is it?" Kon asked. His hand ran over the spot on his stomach where a certain part that people normally had was missing. Maybe it was that he had more of what other people were normally missing: skin. He hadn't exactly come out of a mother's womb, but there wasn't exactly a way that he could say that without shattering Tim's careful identities on the island.

If it had been just him...well, no. If it had been just him, he would have done the same thing regardless.

"It must just be one of those things. You have no idea how much I got teased about it when I was a kid." Kid, of course, being a little under a year ago and the teasing that came from usually Bart. Or Cassie and Cissie.

"Did children often see your stomach?" I asked, quite curious, for she had never imagined people flashing their skin around very often, especially if they were young children. Sure, she knew that things had changed and that the ankle was not as much of a scandal, and yes many had bathing suits which barely covered any skin... but she felt that children would be more covered.

Coraline's eyes were red from crying. Lucy was gone and she felt horrid. She felt sick and tired and clingy. She couldn't understand how anyone was so happy when she felt so sad. She'd followed the sheets though because even upset she was still a curious girl.

When she'd found the party she hadn't smiled like normal or even asked any questions about why they were throwing a party- she had just took her catbag and sat by herself. Alone. Knees pulled up to her chest, she sat staring out at the water. Lucy would have loved the party.

Graysfang saw the young lady crying. She hurt, but he couldn't smell any injuries. She needed help, and she was alone. The wolf wondered where her pack, her family, her father and brothers were, to leave her alone like this in such pain. Padding over on silent paws, he came over to her, giving her shoulder a gentle nuzzle of reassurance. Human cubs often found animals to be better companions than other humans, and he wouldn't be a proper warlord if he left a female of any race in pain.

Coraline wiped her eyes, sniffing as the wolf came over to her. For a moment she had thought it was one of the direwolves, another painful reminder of Lucy but it wasn't. Or if it was she didn't recognise it. Coraline held her hand out for the wolf to sniff.

"Hello," Coraline said quietly, wondering if he'd let her stroke him.

Graysfang sniffed the hand politely, giving a soft whuff of greeting. The child wasn't injured, or really afraid, a good sign. He nudged her hand with his head, using actions instead of a psychic thread of speech to say it was all right if she wanted to pet him. Being brushed by humans was one of the nice things that came of having friends outside the kindred wolves.

Surreal couldn't help a bubbling laugh of joy at the change to green when she saw it. It called to her, in joy and freedom, and she answered that call. The Blood were keepers of the land, and there was always joy when it brought forth life after the cold, renewing slumber of the darkness of winter. It was cool, but not cold, and she pulled on a bathing costume and over it a half-buttoned shirt and wraparound skirt. Dignity be damned, she was going to enjoy herself, and a party was just the place to do it ( ... )

Kon couldn't help but stare at the woman. Or the dog, but definitely the woman. It was for that reason, or so he would forever claim, that he didn't notice the log that seconded as a chair and ended up running into it and flying over, landing on the ground in front of her with a loud 'oof'.

"Hi?" he said a little sheepishly.

Between one breath and the next, Graysfang was between her and the young man, a soft, warning growl trickling from bared teeth. He was protecting her, at least until the level of threat was certain.

Surreal, on the other hand, just looked amused. "Hi yourself," she purred, letting the words take on a bit of the laughter she wasn't letting go just yet. "Are you always this clumsy, or do I rate special treatment?"

Kon looked at the dog...no... "That's a wolf." A stupid thing to say, maybe, but he hadn't really paid attention until now. Not until he was a few feet away and the thing was growling at him. "Good puppy," he said under his breath and managed to get to his knees, shuffling back a little.

He forced his eyes back up to her and gave her a weak smile. "Just you, I think."

When Cassie had discovered the sun and the other outcasts from training, she'd immediately gone to the box and demanded a bathing suit. Everything was in shades of pink but finally, she was able to find a bikini that was plaid with pink and blue. She missed her red one with white stars from home, but it was good enough for some fun in the sun.

It took her no time to find the impromptu party. In fact, she took a longer time deciding between what to try first: steal one of Kon's surfboards or convincing Dick to teach her how to hang glide. Decisions, decisions.

Karolina comes out of the water, dripping wet in short-shorts and a shirt that didn't quite cover all of her waist. She squeezes out her hair and then sees Cassie. She waves and heads over. "Can you freakin believe it? Hang gliders!" she hasn't yet harassed Dick to teach her yet, but she will.

"I know right?!" Cassie said excitedly. "I can't decide! Surfing or hang gliding? It's too hard!" Finally, she reached out and grabbed Karolina's wrist. "Come on, let's go convince Dick to take us up. I think missing flying just kicked in."

"Just now?!" she asks shocked, her eyebrows shooting up. It's the very first thing she'd noticed, and the second thing she'd missed. "Hang gliding for the win, Cassie! We need to!" It doesn't take much coaxing, and soon she's racing along the sand after Cassie toward the hang gliders.

Thomasina had missed the warm weather more than she'd known. It wasn't that she particularly preferred heat to cold, and she had been very glad indeed to have the snow for Christmas, but what she had really missed was the freedom to walk out the door of the compound any time she liked. Much of her first months here had been spent walking the paths, learning the lay of the island, and it was with this that she was very much looking forward to reacquainting herself.

The clothing box, it seemed, had been glad for the return to normal weather too, as it had just that morning provided Thom with what she thought was a perfectly lovely bathing costume and coverup, as well as a widebrimmed but rather floppy straw hat to keep the sun off her face. It still seemed daring to her, but at least she knew she would garner no odd looks, and that was what really mattered. She made her way down to the beach with towel, apple, and one of the books Henri had lent her in hand, realizing only when she arrived that not only was she not alone, but there ( ... )

Bart nearly tripped and fell when Kon shoved him towards the lady reading with an order to 'be social.' Catching his balance, he shot a glare over one shoulder back at his friend before making his way over.

"May I ask what you're reading?" he said, curious.

Thom looked up, shading her eyes against the glare of the sun as it climbed in the sky. "Darwin," she said, showing him the cover of On the Origin of Species. "It's fascinating. Are you familiar with it?" She'd never met the young man before, but anyone interested in someone's book at a party like this was probably, in her estimation, someone worth talking to.

"I've read it," Bart said, a little cautiously. He could quote the whole thing if he wanted to, but he didn't want to show off. "For the son of an Anglican minister, he certainly managed to stir things up, that's for sure."

He smiled, thinking about it. "Are you interested in the science or the philosophy?" Then he realized what he said. "Before I start interrogating you or something, I should probably introduce myself. I'm Bart. Bart Allen."
