Carson had been happy when Ronon had shown up on the island again not long ago. Granted, he hadn't expected to find the man looming over a couple of wraith corpses in the snow, but he'd been happy to see him, all the same. While they hadn't known each other terribly well before, he'd always been personable...in his own way. And though Ronon being ( Read more... )

"I have to say, this was not what I was expecting," Jill said from behind Carson, two cups of coffee held in her hands. By now, visiting Carson in the clinic was as close to a routine as she came, and she almost always brought him a cup of coffee -- except for the time she'd brought him beer instead, although neither of them talked about that evening. A body, however, was rarely part of the routine.

"A wraith," she continued, setting the coffee down, immediately forgetting it was even there. "When did this happen?" The last time she'd seen one had been Halloween and the damn thing had nearly killed her.

"Oh, Jill, hullo," Carson said, lifting the visor of his goggles. It was, understandably, much easier to talk to her without them on. "Ronon turned up again not too long ago. Two of these arrived with him. Already dead, thankfully."

The last thing they needed was more live wraith on the island. The Halloween two years before had been more than enough.

"Jesus Christ," Jill murmured, stepping closer, although she was careful not to touch anything. After hearing so much about them from Radek and then seeing one herself, she couldn't help her curiosity.

"This is incredible. To see one up close like this, I mean." NorBAC had been an amazing place to work, but it could never have given her anything like this. "Do you need any help?"

"I haven't seen one this close in a few years myself," Carson said, with a grin. "And I certainly wouldn't say no t'an extra set of hands."

He knew this whole thing would probably be a bit creepy to some of the other doctors and lab workers, particularly the ones who'd never seen any sort of alien before, but he figured that Jill would be okay with it.

"I heard there's Wraith, is there Wr- oh," Rodney said, stopping short in the doorway.

"Okay. You look like you're having FAR too much fun with that."

Goggles still on, Carson turned towards the doorway, scalpel still in his gloved hand.

"I suppose that means you're not here t'lend a hand, then?" He asked.

Rodney almost took a step back when he saw the goggles. "You look like Ichabod Crane," he informed Carson before moving to his side.

"What am I supposed to do?" He made a face at the corpse. It smelled.

"...the man from the headless horseman story?" Carson asked, a bit confused, but then raised the visor on his goggles, just the same.

"And I was only joking, Rodney. Unless, of course, you would like t'help. I could always use an extra set of hands t'hand me surgical instruments."

And hold back bits of flesh and tissue, but Carson wasn't about to mention that straight away.

She didn't really go to the clinic very often, as it was a bit out of her way, but it had been a week since Carson had stitched up the slice on her palm, and at the very least, if it was not time to remove the sutures, it wouldn't hurt if he glanced at them in his free time.

As it turned out, it appeared he was just getting to the Wraith Elizabeth had heard about. The sight of Wraith here, regardless of whether they were living, was an unsettling one, but she pushed the initial reaction aside. Better that it was Wraith than Asurans.

She crossed her hands at her waist, and stood near a side wall, waiting and watching, rather than interrupting his work. It was not every day he would get the opportunity to study a Wraith specimen on the island.

Carson didn't notice Elizabeth standing there at first. He'd been trying to figure out the best way to take off the wraith's face mask.

One of the last times he'd gotten to study one of these was after Lieutenant Ford had ended up attached to one. But that hadn't been for quite some time now.

He turned to grab a large scalpel from the instrument tray, and nearly jumped out of his own skin when he saw Elizabeth there.

"Oh, Elizabeth," He said, "I didn't hear you come in."

She offered a small, apologetic smile. "I've only just arrived." She pushed off from her perch against the wall, and approached where he stood, arms crossed. "Finding anything interesting?" There was an unspoken inquiry whether he was enjoying himself, as well. It would, perhaps, have been inappropriate to ask directly, but this was a specialty of his, and she certainly couldn't blame him for appreciating such a rare opportunity.

"Hi, Carson," Jennifer said cheerfully, spotting Carson with the Wraith corpse. "You must be feeling better," she couldn't help but tease. "Want an extra pair of hands?" She'd been hesitant to offer her knowledge of the Wraith, not wanting to intrude on Carson's work, but it seemed a little silly of her. She just wished she had all her research from the gene therapy project. That would have been useful.

"Aye," Carson said, immediately knowing what Jennifer was talking about. The whole evening had been a horrible idea-- even moreso with how much he'd ended up drinking. "I think I'll make sure t'sit the next one of those out."

He smiled anyway, because even if the day after hadn't been particularly fun, the evening itself had been.

"And I certainly wouldn't say no to a bit of help."

Jennifer pulled on a pair of gloves and peered at the Wraith. "This is one of the ones Ronon brought with him, right?" she asked. "I mean, there haven't been any more Wraith showing up here, I hope." That was the last thing they needed--more Wraith, and here of all places.

When Beverly came into the clinic to get another textbook for her notetaking, she wasn't surprised to see Dr. Beckett in there. What she was surprised to see was Dr. Becket standing over an alien creature the likes of which she had never seen in any of her xenobiology courses.

"Damn," she said, staring for a long few moments at the massive dead being. "Wha--Who is that?"

"A wraith," Carson explained, raising the visor of his goggles to look over at Doctor Crusher. He couldn't remember ever alien from Star Trek, but he wouldn't have been surprised if she'd encountered something similar.

"A creature from the Pegasus Galaxy. Someone from home showed up recently and brought two of these along for the ride."

Beverly didn't need to ask whether or not it had been dead or alive when it got here--she would have heard if it had been the latter. She wandered in closer, pulling out her tricorder and giving it a scan. "Fairly humanoid for a different galaxy," she noted, thoughtfully. "I take it they're not friends."

"Not exactly, no," Carson said, watching with interest as Doctor Crusher scanned it. "considering they feed on humans."

He reached down and grabbed the wraith's arm, turning it over so that she might see the feeding mechanism on it's hand.
