The end of the year is the start of something new. A chance to leave behind the old and start over. An opportunity to begin fresh, to say to yourself, this time, I'm gonna do it better.

Ellie had just finished up skating, and was walking the opposite direction - toward her hut, of course - with her skates over her shoulders. She smiled when she noticed the familiar face walking toward her, and she raised a hand in greeting.

"Taking a walk?" she asked. It was a nicer than usual day, at least.

"And it's not too bad tasting, too," she pointed out, as she got things ready to brew a fresh pot of coffee. "Better than what they used to serve where I worked, anyway."

Meredith laughed. "After a while, the bad stuff doesn't taste so bad," she said. "I think you just get accustomed and then you tell yourself it's good so you don't think you're drinking bad coffee every day, even when you are."
