Joe couldn't have said what prompted him to run for Council again, not after taking time off, but there he was, back on the fucking stage to give another speech. Part of him almost didn't want to do it. He wondered what would happen if he just wrote it off completely and assumed people would know him, but in the end he was there

"One of the only ones that matter," Joe answered with a smirk, slinging an arm around Logan's shoulders. "What if I went up there and said I was gonna try to destroy the Council from the inside. Would you still vote for me?"

"You kidding? I'd find a way to vote twice, man," Logan laughed. "As much as I like progression or whatever, I'd totally prefer a rebellious uprising from the inside."

Joe snorted with laughter, looking amused. "Well, then, that's my plan. Get your ass out there and vote for me twice, man. I'm gonna take it all down from the inside."

Logan laughed again, still grinning as he patted Joe on the back. "I'll be sure to do that, man."

"Seriously, I'm glad you're here," Joe admitted, his grin softening a bit. "Nice to know that the island can fucking shift and do all its bullshit and yet some things never change, am I right?" Logan was one of the few things that remained constant in Joe's life and his support meant a hell of a lot, even if Joe wouldn't quite say it like that.

"Yeah, well, what can I say? I had a choice of surfing or supporting you, and I decided the waves could wait," Logan laughed, though Joe wasn't the only reason he'd turned up. He'd wanted to support Veronica and Dale as well. ...And, of course, Jack.

Not that he was going to mention that name just now.

"So what are your big plans this time if you get in?" he asked curiously. "I mean, I heard what you said, but you must have one thing you really want to focus on."

Joe's shoulders lifted in a slow shrug as he thought about it. "I meant what I said about having backup plans for the mundane shit. That woman who just showed up in fucking labour and is way too fucked up to care for her kid? No one really knew what to do. Never seen something like that before. It'd be good to have a fucking plan for the shit we don't expect."

"Yeah," Logan agreed with a nod. "So much fucked up stuff happens here, and we can't be prepared for it all... but the more we can be prepared for, the better."

"Yeah, I wanna see that," Joe said, nodding again. "I mean, we've got all the emergency preparations I think we can fucking handle, but there needs to be people looking after the every day shit."

Logan nodded his agreement, offering another smile and patting Joe's back once more before pulling away. "I should let you go, I'm sure people want to ask you questions, and you want to talk to Dale or whatever."

"Fuck people wanting to ask me questions," Joe answered with a snort of laughter. "I still fucking hate that bullshit. Questions and answers, having it all written down. I was never good at it." Because he'd never wanted to be good at it.

"YOu're better at it than you think, Joe," Logan assured the other man. "Just say what's true, you know?"

"Most of the time people don't like what's true," Joe replied, but he was still grinning, looking relaxed enough that it probably wouldn't bug him much to answer some questions.

"You'll be fine, Joe," Logan replied. "Seriously. Don't worry or whatever. I know you, I've seen you do this before. They voted then, and they'll vote again now. You're gonna do great."

"Thanks, man," Joe said, smiling. "We'll see if I end up on there again, but it means a lot. Like I said. You being here."
