It seems to Lisey that as soon as the rainy stretch had ended, so had the feeling of discontent that had been hanging over the little community like just another black cloud. Now, with the skies once again full of sun, and the island still buzzing with news and excitement from the ball that had been held over the weekend, it seemed like as happy a time there as Lisey could remember.
She hadn't gone herself, of course; twenty or thirty years ago, she and Scott would have been there with bells on, but at her age it had been much more fulfilling to sit outside the compound with a mug of coffee and watch everyone, decked out in their finery, head off to enjoy the evening. Now it's Wednesday morning and Lisey's up with the sun to make breakfast.
This morning she decides to get a little fancy - for her, anyway - and mixes up some muffin batter, throwing in a little chopped mango, a few berries, just enough to give it a little interest. There's honey butter to go on them, and for people who'd prefer something savory she's pretty much got the art of the quiche perfected. This morning it's filled with boar sausage, herbs, spinach and cheese. Of course she sets out the requisite big bowl of fruit salad, and makes enough coffee and tea to feed an army. Just another Wednesday morning, really, but right now her little house on Sugartop Hill seems very far away, and as the first few bleary-eyed islanders start filtering in, Lisey smiles over her mug of coffee, thinking that for the first time she doesn't mind so much.
[Your Wednesday morning mealpost! Gathering style, as always. Tag Lisey, tag each other. I'm on ST cause I'm at work and tagging from my phone, but there are plenty of people to talk to!]
