Tim's actually disappointed it's not raining. Those had always been his favorite games, the memories of mud on his knees and clumps of grass stuck in his helmet lingering long past any memories of who scored the first touchdown and who got credit for the sack in the second quarter. Still, his adrenaline for a real, actual game (even without real ( Read more... )

Football here sure wasn't anything like it'd been at home. Lyla was busier than she could remember ever being, helping to cook food, directing people to drag benches and tables, making sure everything got where it needed to go. It was a good kinda busy, and as things started pulling together - the food, the people, the decorations even - she found herself getting excited ( ... )

Although Jack's on the losing team, he's not so invested in the whole thing that it manages to put him in a bad mood. It's been a long time since he's doing anything like this -- after school, but before the fame -- and he's feeling pretty damn good. A run every morning is great, but this is different.

"Whoa, sorry, hi," he says with a laugh as he almost runs into the dark-haired girl. He's pretty sure he's seen her talking to him, but he doesn't know her name and he grins sheepishly. "You, uh... you put this all together, right?"

"It's alright," there are a lot of people here, and it isn't the first time she's run into someone. This time at least she didn't drop anything, her hands empty for what seemed like the first time all night. "Me? I just organised things. I had lotsa help. It's great what the people here will do when you ask."

She stuck out her hand with a smile, "I'm Lyla."

"Jack Crew," he answers with a bright grin, shaking her hand enthusiastically. "You're a friend of Tim's right? I've known him for awhile, I'm playing on his team."

Which doesn't mean that Jack knows anything about football, of course, because he'd grown up on the outskirts. Still, he knows enough to play here and he's enjoying himself immensely.

So, maybe Nita didn't get football. She didn't really - academically, it made sense, but once there were people on a field she kind of lost what was going on in a sea of people smashing into one another over a ball. That being said, she'd been on the island too long to turn down something new to do, and the fact that there was a party afterwards?

Her sneakers sank into the slightly-damp ground as she stood on tiptoe, watching the game until it was called. She didn't see anyone who she knew more then in passing at first, until her eyes flicked to Tim and then past him, not even knowing if he'd remember who the heck she was - or if he'd care. Nick, she knew. And Calvin.

Overall, she wasn't really sure if that meant that she needed to meet more people, or... that she was some kind of hermit. Given how incredibly awkward she felt, she was kind of siding with the latter.

Bill dragged the back of his hand across his brow. His team had lost, but he had a small grin on his face nevertheless. "Hey, Nita," he greeted when he spotted her.

"Hey!" Her voice was a little too loud, and she was maybe sort of a little jumpy. A little. "How're you, Bill? I mean, Great game. I was watching." The words all came out in a tumble, and she shoved her hands in her back pockets. "How're things?"

Lame finish, too. Great, Nita.

"Thanks," Bill replied with an easy smile, and if he noticed she seemed nervous, he didn't let it show. "I'm all right, all things considered. Not too chuffed about losing, but there's always next time." He was also far from chuffed about Eostre being gone and Roger being in the clinic, but he tried to avoid dwelling on either of those things for the moment. "How've you been?"

What Serena knew about football, she'd gleaned from games caught on TV and, mostly, from time spent with Tim and questions asked of Lyla. Her part in the game didn't require to know all that much one way or the other, though. In what she was pretty sure was the requisite short skirt and high spirits, she just followed Lyla's lead for her first game as a cheerleader. She'd never been adverse to feeling a little silly and there was no doubt she'd enjoyed herself. She had no vested interest, after all, in winners or losers. It was enough just to let herself get caught up in the action. Afterwards, she was content just to wander through the crowd, helping herself to some of the food that had been prepared.

When Coraline grew up she wanted to look just like the older girl. She was just so pretty. Covered in mud and sweat Coraline felt very ungirly in comparison to her. Coraline got herself a big glass of juice and bravely went to introduce herself to the very pretty girl. She couldn't be that scary, it wasn't like she was trying to kill her.

"Hi," Coraline greeted cheerily. "I saw you cheering on the pitch, that was really nice of you."

Serena smiled brightly as she turned to look at the younger girl. "Oh, it was my pleasure," she said, shaking her head. "You guys played a great game out there. Cheering's the least I can do."

"Our team won but Adam said I'm not allowed to gloat about it, something to do with poor sportsmanship but really I think I should be allowed to be happy about it. We won after all," Coraline said smiling brightly at the older girl. Perhaps being attractive had something to do with short skirts or girl bits, but there was nothing she could do about girl bits except maybe stuff her t-shirts with pillows. "I'm Coraline, Coraline Jones."

It'd been a while since Ryan had played in a game for any kind of team sports, and he'd never really been that guy. Until earlier that day, it'd been something to do, a good way to keep himself busy. Actually playing a game, though - and yeah, winning didn't hurt -, left him feeling pretty damn good. For once, he was even outright grinning as he headed to join the others at the tables, worn out in one of the best ways possible.

While Marissa had met some of the people on the other team, she'd cheered for Ryan's, and was delighted when they won. "Hey!" she greeted as she walked over to meet him on his way to the refreshments. Her swift hug was instinctive, but she tried to not make it too awkward, even though he was kind of sweaty. "That was great, congratulations! I didn't know you played football."

"Thanks." Ryan grinned. "I took it up here. Something to do," he said, shrugging. Any conflicting thoughts he'd had seeing her around since her arrival were gone right then. He was too swept up in the post-game rush to be anything but glad to see her, simple as that. "I didn't know you were coming to the game."

"Why wouldn't I? I had to be here to cheer you on," Marissa informed him matter-of-factly. "The fact that I didn't know you were going to be playing until I saw you out there isn't important." She shook her head once decisively, and then grinned again.

"Do you want a drink?" she asked, belatedly realizing that she'd cut him off on his way to the refreshments.

Coraline had to be reminded before the game that of course winning wasn't everything and that everyone who played was winner but Coraline knew the truth. Winning was important, winning was everything. To say Coraline was a little competitve was an understatement.

She thought Mister Tim had done a great job but her team ruled and his team sucked. And whilst she thought it wasn't really polite to crow about his side losing, she certainly had no problems reminding everyone who had won.

"WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS MY FRIEND AND WE'LL KEEP ON FIGHTING TIL THE END. DUN-DUN-DUN, WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS! WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!" Coraline sang loudly, and rather obnoxiously, at a passerby. "NO TIME FOR LOSERS COS WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD!"

He grinned at her and shook his head, wandering a little bit closer. Coraline'd put up a good show and held her own against people who were about twice her size. Even if he was occasionally worried she was going to be tackled and crushed flat.

"Hey, no, we're not supposed to revel in it. Where's the sportsmanship?"

"Sorry Mister O'Keefe," Coraline said in a tone that didn't sound very sorry at all. In fact it sounded positively joyous and giddy. "I'm pretty sure I'm not supposed to have any sportsmanship, I've got girl bits after all."

"Oh, don't try that on me," he said warningly, but despite the tone he was grinning. "Gender's got nothing to do with sportsmanship and you know it."
