Zack missed the training room. He missed missions, real or simulated. He almost felt bad for not training harder. That was how badly he was missing missions. He felt like jumping out of a helicopter and landing onto a moving train. He felt like taking on the Wutai or AVALANCHE. Well maybe not those organizations exactly, but an enemy force at ( Read more... )

Cameron had just been going for a run, but it was impossible not to hear the shouts from any reasonable vicinity, and given that he didn't have anywhere better to be, he changed his course to the large waterfall. It wasn't a great surprise to see Zack was the cause of all the noise. There weren't a whole lot of other people he knew on the island capable of making so much noise.

He crossed his arms, squinting up at the man, before shaking his head. "That can't be safe."

Zack didn't have an inside voice or volume control most of the time. He just like living to the fullest which didn't leave much time to worry about noise making.

"Safe? WHATEVER! You can't worry about safe, Cameron," he shouted a reply. "If it weren't safe, the IPD would have it blocked off."

Cameron could appreciate living life to the fullest, but there were times when quiet and secrecy ensured that life wouldn't be cut abruptly short. Obviously, this wasn't one of those times.

Cameron snorted in amusement, shaking his head. "Like the dinosaur territory? I got the impression their protection strategies rely heavily on common sense and...patrolling."

"So you're not going to come up here and give it a try?" What did Zack know about being careful and ensuring life wasn't cut abruptly short?

Aya was still processing 1.) that Hayley knew about his past and that she didn't seem bothered by it. It had been a huge load off of his shoulders, even if he wasn't about to admit that; and 2.) he had actually talked to the Devil. He took some comfort in that most people would be a little shocked when faced with that fact. He still couldn't believe he had actually become curious and asked questions.

He was walking by the waterfall not actually paying attention to his surroundings just focusing on his thoughts when he heard the voice. He glanced up covering his eyes from the light. "No, I haven't swam in a long time." He certainly wouldn't trust diving from that height.

"Genesis?" Zack was taken completely off-guard by the voice. It was difficult to get a good look at people from his position, but he wouldn't mistake the voice.

"Don't move!" he said, pointing a figure toward the man before leaping off the waterfall.

Aya had no idea what the other man meant when he said Genesis, but he figured the only way to find out was to remain where he was.

He shrugged even though no one was around to see it and then sat down on a nearby rock.

Zack broke the surface of the water and swam to the side possibly faster than he had after the first jump. It was almost like things were building on Monster Island as Summer had called it the other day. Angeal's sword and now Angeal's best friend.

"When did you get here?" he asked as he dripped water.

"Hey yourself!" Karolina called out. "I wasn't, but it wouldn't be the first time I've jumped in in my clothes," she smiled.

Walking up to him, she kicked her flip flops off her feet and onto the ground beside the water. "Feeling better?"

She cocked her head and got a peculiar look on her face. Without warning, she let out a little war cry, hooked her arms around his waist and pulled them both of balance to tumble into the water

They weren't in the air long enough for anything other than planning their landing to make sure they didn't collide and injury each other.

"Oh yeah," he repeated when he broke the surface. "That was a nice move. You really came out of nowhere with that." He laughed, but then gave her a playful splash as retribution.

Karolina came up for air and pushed her hair out of her face as she broke the surface laughing and grinning at him. "I don't know whether you're being sarcastic or not," she said and then splashed him back, "But you deserve that."

"As serious as a guy can be who gets shoved off a waterfall," he sassed. "And if I deserved that, you deserve this." He promptly splashed her back, slowly making his way to the side for a repeat of the last.

The upside of having a partner who insisted acting like a teenager at best, was that it made Austin feel mature in comparison. On occasion. But he could hardly claim maturity on the matter of waterfalls diving, since it was one of the least dangerous activities he'd engaged in on the island.

At least Zack looked better. No signs of heroic brooding anywhere.

"Do it with your eyes closed and your back turned, then we're talking."

Zack smiled, saying "No problem" and giving Austin the thumbs up.

He turned his back to the water below and closed his eyes. Pushing off of the rock cliff with his feet, he jumped away and into a backflip. It was nowhere near as spectacular as he would have liked, but he wasn't back home and things were just different here. Finally he landed in the water with a loud splash.

Breaking the surface a short time later, he wore a grin on his face. "Eyes closed and backwards. Check."

Austin watched with detached interest, staying alert in case Zack needed to be dragged out of the water. His partner seemed to handle himself just fine, though - overly eager to accept dares, maybe, but that was hardly surprising. He made a mental note to avoid telling Zack to jump off any bridges anytime soon.

"Not bad," he conceded once Zack reached the surface, then he paused, mouth curving into a teasing smirk. "For a human. They teach you waterfall diving in SOLDIER?"

Zack would definitely accept most dares. He was a mixture of jock and teenager with a bit of SOLDIER boldness. If Austin told him to jump off a bridge, Zack would consider the best way to go about it.

"Nah. But we're allowed to be creative." Or reckless as he was certain Angeal would call it.
