Raistlin still had the last book that the bookshelf had given him but in a very uncharacteristic move he hadn't been able to bring himself to read it yet. He hadn't sorted out what was stopping him, but it mattered little in the end. The book was there simply waiting for him to be ready ( Read more... )

'twas a rare day indeed when Lord Jeremy Northwood traversed into the building known far and wide as the compound. Though it dinnae bear a resemblance whatsoe'er to Sheaves Inn, the very sight o' it gave him a chill in the same way he ken the inn would were he at home once more.

But he had been in need o' leisure today, for his horse was nae fairing well. Thus, he took to the compound. Nae much time had passed before he found himself accosted with something quite unusual.

"What is this?" he questioned, staring at strange moving images, scarcely able to tear his eyes away.

"It's called a movie. The title of this particular one is Sleeping Beauty." Raistlin responded to the question taking a quick moment to turn from the images to the man who had entered. Raistlin was quick not to assume that his would be familiar to everyone, but he figured that it was not something the other man knew he would ask more questions. Whether Raistlin knew the answer would be up for debate however.

"This is actually the first one I've watched. It is quite good actually." There might be a slight implication in his tone that he had expected to be quite bored with it. "It is about a cursed princess." He scooted over so there was more room on the couch.

"A movie," Jeremy repeated slowly, the syllables thick with his Scottish brogue.

The images flickered brightly upon the surface on which they shone. 'twas most curious. For a time, Jeremy glanced from the surface to the settee and back again. Having decided he would quite like to experience more of this movie, he sat down upon the proffered space. "I have ne'er seen such a wonder before," he confessed, utterly transfixed.

His eyes didn't leave the screen. "They didn't have these where I am from either. The closest we would have would be when someone performed plays during festivals, or bards traveling from town to town." He said softly so as not to be too distracting.

There had been word, in his England, years ago, of a film based on cartoon images. So far, however, only short films of annoying mice had made it to the screen. This was new to Guy.

He found it quite amusing, though, to see Raistlin watching it. "Didn't take you for a man who liked children's stories."

"You'd be surprised what you can learn from children's stories." He grinned making room for Guy to sit down. "It's the first one I've actually watched. I simply picked it without paying too much attention, but so far it has been very interesting."

"Interesting." Guy grinned and did indeed take a seat. He regarded the film for a moment. "Interesting, how?"

He grinned leaning back slightly. "Well I've found the villain quite fascinating, though now that I think about it perhaps I've missed the point."

He shrugged slightly keeping an eye on the screen. "And I am quite unfamiliar with the story so it has been an interesting glimpse into another culture." He supposed his interesting in learning would never go away. And he left unsaid that it was a distraction from the disquieting hesitancy on his part to read about the future of his world.
