Although Joe didn't appear to be nervous, he knew Logan could tell that he was anyway, even if he wasn't about to admit it to anyone else. Everything was set up at the stage and he was there doing a quick sound check before anyone else arrived, checking the levels of the microphone and the amps until everything was exactly how he thought he wanted ( Read more... )

Quickly, Joe unplugged his guitar from the amp and dropped down off the stage, leaving the instrument resting against him. Although the show had gone well, he was a little twitchy, itching for something that he hadn't had in a long goddamn time and something he knew he really wasn't allowed to have.

He wanted just a line or just a swig of beer or just a fucking puff from a cigarette. Something to let him get his head back on straight.

It was the first show he'd ever played completely sober and that was a weird fucking feeling.

Logan hung back a while, watching as everyone talked to Joe, waiting for the crowd to clear a little before heading over and draping an arm over the older man's shoulders. "That was really good, man. You were awesome," he said honestly, flashing a genuine smile as he patted Joe's cheek.

He hadn't expected anything less though, not form Joe. Logan had known all along that Joe was going to put on one hell of a show.

"You were really fucking good, too, man," Joe answered, grinning at Logan before he gave a pleased sort of shrug. "Everything came together. The songs sounded pretty fucking tight. You feel good about it?" he asked, feeling better now that he wasn't just thinking about getting drunk or stoned.

"Yeah. Yeah, Joe, I really do," Logan replied honestly. "Thanks," he added, meaning it and ducking his head slightly as he smiled.

He was still buzzing with energy, fidgeting a little but obviously happy. His back was a bit straighter and his arms hung at his sides rather then folded across his chest like usual, and he looked more friendly and open than he did most days.

Parties were nice and all, but Eden really didn't feel like dressing up in some costume just to have a good time, so when Penny had mentioned Joe's show, it had seemed the better option. She didn't really know him herself, but that was no reason not to go and have fun. A concert beat a toga party any day.

Gideon had pretty much decided to stick back and not talk to anyone, but that plan changed the moment he noticed Eden around. Shoving his hands into his pockets, he headed over to stand next to her, elbow lightly nudging her side as he came to a stop.

"Not bad, huh?" he asked. He wasn't sure if he was going to fucking bring shit up yet, but at the very least, the company was better than hanging out alone.

"Not at all," Eden agreed with a little smile as she looked up and over at him. "I mean, I don't know that it's my usual music, but I like it." Joe was good at what he did, that much was clear. She'd figured Gideon would show up, whether or not he'd admit it was because of Penny.

It wasn't his, either, though Penny's hadn't been either and it'd fucking grown on him pretty easily. With this being one of the only bands on the island, he didn't doubt it'd be the same way.

"Gotta take what you can get, either fucking way," he smirked, looking at the crowd. "You should've seen Penny earlier. Don't think I've ever seen her all fucking hyped up like she was."

And probably still was, wherever the fuck she disappeared to. He'd never admit it, but her having a good time actually made dealing with going fucking worth it. He would've felt like shit if he had made her miss it.

He turned his head towards her after a moment before asking, "So, how's it going?"

Donald had come to the show, after all. Not just for Logan, though it was part of it, but he was interested in the music that Joe would be playing.

Or he had been interested, until it had started. To say that it wasn't quite to his taste would have been a bit of an understatement, but he'd listened, and applauded at the end.

Now he just waited. There were few people he knew here, and a few he'd rather avoid, lingering to one side.

To be honest, Logan was a little surprised when he nearly walked right into Donald, his expression betraying him as his eyes widened slightly. It took him a moment to pull it back in, smiling and patting Donald's arm where their shoulders had bumped.

"Hey," he said, the shock gone and a genuine smile on his face as he moved to stand in front of the other man. "Wasn't sure you'd be here. You, uh, like the show?" he asked curiously. "I know it's probably not your thing, but... I dunno, there's something about Joe. The way he plays, you know? It's kind of amazing."

He was taken aback by the surprise, but hid it well enough, smiling when Logan smiled at him. "He's a talented musician. As are you."

That he could say honestly, at least.

"He's the best, taught me everything," Logan said, his voice sincere and the hero worship obvious as he glanced over at Joe who was still by the stage. "Next to him I'm like a monkey on a banjo, but... thanks. Really. It was... It was really cool. I never thought I'd do something like that. I didn't think I could, you know?"

When Vince had seen the poster he'd made a point of making sure he'd remember to go, scribbling the date on his arm in blue felt tip pen. Of course, he hadn't taken into consideration the fact that he was likely to shower between then and now, and in the end it had been sheer luck that had brought him to the concert.

It was a good show, a really good show, and he couldn't help but wonder if there were t-shirts or something he could buy. Couldn't go to a concert without buying a t-shirt after all. It was a law or something.

Charlie had forced herself to be in the mood for this. There hadn't been many concerts to go to, back home, and she'd been excited for this one, and she was going, rain or shine. She'd put on a dress and she combed her hair and she'd danced like a mad thing for the whole time they were playing. Hell, it had almost been cathartic.

At the end of the gig, she sat down at the front of the stage with hr back against the wood, exhausted, and closed her eyes.

For the first time in what felt like weeks, she smiled and meant it.
