Abby had been a guy for about a day now. Well, she'd been a guy before, but before she'd actually been in her own body, just with different equipment. This? Was definitely not her body. She'd realized that about the time she'd woken up in a hut by a stream when she distinctly recalled going to sleep curled up against Tim in a way that probably ( Read more... )

Bran's mostly been enjoying the fact that he's been left in his own body. It's been a while since the island really wanted to mess with him, and he's glad of that--thinks maybe it means he and it have come to a mutually agreeable arrangement. (And the first time this had happened, he'd been in Will, which, in retrospect, had delivered some clear advantages.)

The other thing about this sort of incident is that you have to pay attention to everyone in case it's someone you know, and you just don't recognise them. Not that you can tell anyway, unless they say hello, but Cafall is better at this sort of thing than him or Cof, and so when he runs up to the red-haired man wagging his tail, Bran pays attention.

Abby bends down to pet Cafall immediately, greeting him and rubbing his ears just the way Cafall likes. This body likes dogs, and she startles herself by kissing Cafall, which she doesn't generally do.

"Hi Powder," she greets him, and that should give him a good clue as to who she is vs who she seems to be.

Nothing is exactly as it seems, nor is it otherwise. Okay, the proverbs were getting a little weird.

Ah. A dead giveaway, that is. "Hullo, Abby," Bran says, looking her--him--over. "Who're you in?"

"I have no idea," she replies calmly, which is mostly a function of this body's personality rather than actual unconcern about knowing who she's inhabiting.

"I guess you got to be you again?"

Sarah Jane was being quick in her little checks and when she found Charlie, she slowed her pace, grinning broadly. That grin faded slightly because she had to remember that it might not just be Charlie at all. "Charlie," she greeted, just in case. "Out for a juice run?" she brightly inquired.

Oooh! She knew her name now! His name? Their name? Pronouns were a problem. Charlie. She was named Charlie. Okay.

"Sort of," she hedged. "Well, I am out for a juice run...but I'm not Charlie. Sorry. I seem to have misplaced myself. Or he misplaced himself. Or we both did."

There was a proverb about misplacing nothing floating around her head. Was this guy a fortune-cookie generator or something?

Well, it seemed like she'd just gone and found herself yet another switch. She didn't lose the smile though and gave a nod. "I'm Sarah Jane Smith," she introduced herself easily. "And you ought to be Charlie Crews, wearing that face. Though, I don't blame you for losing yourself. Are going anywhere in particular?" she asked thoughtfully.

Charlie Crews. That name sounded familiar. Probably she'd read it on the island resident list or something. She'd definitely never met the guy, though, nor did she knew anyone who knew him.

Meeting another Sarah Jane was a little strange too. An older version had definitely been here before. Abby had liked that version.

"Oh! Thank you for the information. Now I know who I am. I'm supposed to be Abby Sciuto. And I was going up to the compound, although I'm pretty much enjoying the stroll. The destination is not as important as the journey."

Reese had woken up with Sarah the jaguar's front paw draped across her middle protectively. The cat, which Reese was developing a possible fondness for, had been following her around all damn day like a...watchcat. Eventually, she gave up and went jogging with the damn thing. Cat. Sarah loved it and was all paws to keep up with her.

They were within sight of the compound when she fell out of a sprint and was summarily tackled by Sarah.

"Hey, hey, hey, no claws! What did I tell you about claws?" Sarah paused in midswipe and flopped down in a sprawl across Reese's prone body. Reese stared at the sky and sighed giving the jaguar a good headrub before she got an ideas about...eating her shirt or something.

"You know, I was gonna get coffee, cat," Reese muttered. "Get off." Sarah licked Reese's cheek obligingly and a big paw came down on her hair. "Christ."

Abby was almost to the compound, considering the woodgrain of the path, when she saw Dani get tackled by a half-grown jaguar. She liked the jaguar. Wait, why did she like the large potentially dangerous jungle cat? Other than its existence on this planet and thus inherent worth.

Huh. More Zen.

"Problems?" she greeted Dani, noting that she also liked Dani. And cared a lot about her. And worried about her. And lots of other things. Definitely a relationship between these two.

"Damn cat," Reese replied and rolled around until she could sit up. "We're good. Just going for a run. It's not like I can get rid of the damn thing. She keeps following me. It's like I've been adopted, Crews." It wasn't Crews because Crews was a pratty little boy. Came out anyway. "There's a face I haven't seen in awhile at any rate. So, if Crews is Draco Malfoy, who's wearing his skin?"

Sarah vacated Reese's middle with a sudden leap as a small rodent scampered past and Reese grunted before flopping back against the ground.

"I hate cats," she said grumpily. Sarah caught and ate the...thing but brought back the tail for Reese. "Oh that's just gross, Sarah. You eat it."

Sarah happily munched it down.

She still liked the potentially dangerous jungle cat, even when it was eating rodents, and this mind obediently supplied something about everything acting according to its nature.

"Abby Sciuto, actually. Are you aware that your partner has a Zen factory in his head? It's slightly disconcerting," she replied, considering the idea that this calm man was in Draco Malfoy, aka Mr. Fancypants Pureblood. This was a temper tantrum of larger than normal proportions.

She'd taken to sticking her head out of the kitchen every time someone walked past, just in case it was Abby. This time, it was Bill, and Eostre had her hand up to wave before she realised it wasn't Bill. It was just someone who looked particularly like him. The differences were subtle, but, once you'd picked them out, you couldn't stop looking at them.

She sighed, and went back to the cookies she was baking while trying to keep the girls occupied.

"Maybe I should bake cobbler," she said to Mack, sprawled on the floor on her belly, kicking her feet. "Maybe then Auntie Abby would come home."

Abby had been about to greet Eostre when she'd turned away, so she walked into the kitchen behind them. She didn't greet Mack, since Mack would probably be really confused about why the random person was talking to her, but she did approach Eostre, although she stayed at a distance. This body didn't have any particular attraction to Eostre, but her mind wanted to greet her with the usual kiss.

"Auntie Abby seems to have misplaced her Auntie status again," she said instead, looking a little sheepish, which worked pretty well on this face. It was an expressive face.

At the sight of someone who looked very like her Uncle Bill, Mack looked up and looked interested. Eostre had been about to say something but then the man spoke. There was only one person on the island she knew with those speech patterns.

She turned around, a look of bald relief on her face.

"There you are."

"I'm sorry," she apologized instantly. "I meant to come by yesterday and find you so you'd know who I was, but...I got distracted."

That wasn't particularly uncommon, but usually she didn't get distracted for entire days.

It had taken him a day but Charlie finally managed to convince himself (not himself, not anymore) that he needed to go track down his body and whoever was currently in possession of it. His body was - Draco was opposed to the idea, something about actively seeking out a freckled redhead went against his every instinct now.

He was most of the way home when he happened upon... himself. Eyes narrowed, chin high, arms crossed, Charlie found himself glaring despite everything. I look like a Weasley!

"Hi," he said with as much cheer as he could muster. "You seem to have my body."

Abby had been studying a flower. Her mind supplied that it was of the genus Zingiberaceae, and his mind informed her that it was very cool. She looked up when a very grumpy individual approached her (him?) and informed him (her) that the body belonged to them.

As a solid rock is not shaken by the wind, so the wise man does not waver before blame or praise.

"Sorry. I didn't mean to borrow it."

"I didn't plan on ending up with this one either," he remarked with a scowl, then shook his head and tried a centering breath. Following a moment or so's hesitation Charlie offered his hand. To himself. "Charlie Crews, currently suffering some serious teenage wizard angst."

She took his hand and shook it firmly, a good strong honest handshake. Hmm. She didn't usually shake people's hands that firmly, but then she didn't generally have this kind of upper body strength either.

"Abby Sciuto, nice to meet you. You know a lot of Zen proverbs, by the way. I keep thinking them at odd moments...did you say wizard angst?"
