Abby had been a guy for about a day now. Well, she'd been a guy before, but before she'd actually been in her own body, just with different equipment. This? Was definitely not her body. She'd realized that about the time she'd woken up in a hut by a stream when she distinctly recalled going to sleep curled up against Tim in a way that probably ( Read more... )

Sarah Jane was being quick in her little checks and when she found Charlie, she slowed her pace, grinning broadly. That grin faded slightly because she had to remember that it might not just be Charlie at all. "Charlie," she greeted, just in case. "Out for a juice run?" she brightly inquired.

Oooh! She knew her name now! His name? Their name? Pronouns were a problem. Charlie. She was named Charlie. Okay.

"Sort of," she hedged. "Well, I am out for a juice run...but I'm not Charlie. Sorry. I seem to have misplaced myself. Or he misplaced himself. Or we both did."

There was a proverb about misplacing nothing floating around her head. Was this guy a fortune-cookie generator or something?

Well, it seemed like she'd just gone and found herself yet another switch. She didn't lose the smile though and gave a nod. "I'm Sarah Jane Smith," she introduced herself easily. "And you ought to be Charlie Crews, wearing that face. Though, I don't blame you for losing yourself. Are going anywhere in particular?" she asked thoughtfully.

Charlie Crews. That name sounded familiar. Probably she'd read it on the island resident list or something. She'd definitely never met the guy, though, nor did she knew anyone who knew him.

Meeting another Sarah Jane was a little strange too. An older version had definitely been here before. Abby had liked that version.

"Oh! Thank you for the information. Now I know who I am. I'm supposed to be Abby Sciuto. And I was going up to the compound, although I'm pretty much enjoying the stroll. The destination is not as important as the journey."

Sarah had often heard many of those little tidbits, though now she was wondering if Abby was truly believing them or whether Charlie's brain just had them run in circles. "Abby," Sarah Jane said pleasantly, with a nod. "Would you like to come have some homemade juice? Maybe avoid the madness for a moment?"

Juice sounded really fantastic and she wondered again what the fascination with fruit was. She'd have to ask if she met the guy who should be using his skin instead of renting it out involuntarily.

"I would love some juice while I try to figure out why I'm in this body. Thank you for inviting me," she replied, smiling. This body definitely liked Sarah, respected her, and Abby was leaning towards the same.

Sarah Jane nodded with a head, hands in her pockets as she lingered to let him catch up. "I thought I'd do a roundabout check, make sure everyone is still them or at least, not in any danger." She still wasn't sure if she was relieved or disappointed to have been passed by the madness twice. "I don't suppose you've met Charlie, wherever he's gotten to?" It'd put her mind at ease, possibly, just to know they'd touched base.

"I haven't met him, and, I'm actually sort of doing that check thing myself. There are a couple people who might be worried about me and I'd like to make sure they're okay too," she admitted. "I meant to do that yesterday, but I got distracted by a bug."

That seemed like a perfectly normal thing for this body to say.

"A bug?" Sarah asked bluntly. "Do you mean like, a spy device? Something you found in your hut or something?" He (she) couldn't mean a literal bug, though, could she? After all...a bug?

"No, I mean an actual bug. I'm a scientist when I'm in my actual body, so I look like looking at things, and I guess Charlie does too. There's always something else to look at."

When you get to the top of the mountain, keep climbing. And that reminded her of that kid's song about bears and mountains.

"Well, I suppose everyone's different," she said, trying not to judge because she'd been brought up to see that the world was a wide and varied place. And she shouldn't say that staring at a bug all day is strange. She'd likely be seen as strange herself in some situations. "I think you're lucky, really," she said after a moment's thought. "I mean, of all people, Charlie seems a good man, nice choice if you have to switch into anyone else."

"Oh, believe me, I know," she agreed with a laugh that was way deeper than she was used to hearing. "There are a few people here I would rather not be for even a second, much less however long this is going to last. I'll have to be sure to meet him once I've given his body back, though."

"I think I'm just grateful I managed to hold onto myself!" she joked, a bit brazen and loud, considering there was nothing truly funny about the whole situation. "I don't think I'd like to wake up not-myself at any point in time."

"Is anyone themselves?" she asked rhetorically and without thinking about it. "Sorry. I swear the Zen just appears on its own. I've been not quite myself a few times, but this is the first time I've ever actually been in a different body. It's a little disconcerting first thing in the morning with no caffeine."

"It's okay, really," Sarah promised brightly, unable to help a mild laugh, warm as it was. "I'm used to the sayings of Zen. They're rather unique and definitely not what I'd search for, so I'm glad Charlie does it for me."

"I think after this is all over I'm going to have to ask the bookshelf for a book of proverbs or something. I wanna know if there's an author for all these inane but not statements," she laughed with Sarah. It was a rich, deep laugh, but it felt rusty, like there wasn't a lot of laughter in Charlie's life, or hadn't been at one point.

Might have something to do with the very interesting ink on his torso.
