Is Adventure Contagious?

With all the talk of the second island, Jonas couldn't help but think a lot about it. Peter was making a raft to try and go over there himself, the adults were over there investigating it and just about everyone else on the island was discussing it

Roger tugs the jumper off and ties the sleeves around his waist, knowing he may find a use for it later. He keeps to the tree line until he spots another person on the beach, closer to his age, this time. Dropping back into a crouch, he keeps behind them, sneaking closer.

The air didn't change any and Jonas remained on the rock, staring out at the water and at the new land. Just as Jonas was going to leap off of the rock and hurry down the path, he heard a subtle noise behind him; a small step. Spinning around, he saw the boy.

"Why are you crouching like that?" He asked apprehensively, sighting the strange boy.

He stands, watching him from the remaining distance. Taller than him, but not much older, he's sure, and not as fast. He wonders what Jack would do, if he were here--recruit him? He's not sure he wants anyone with him, unpainted and unarmed, who'd make too much noise, he's sure. He needs the hunters, and someone to lead them.

Jonas blinked and continued to stare at the boy. Maybe he didn't speak English. Jonas took a step forward, still with apprehension, and lowered his voice.

"Can you talk? Do you speak English?"

Johnny watched him for a moment. It was all so very... it was like something out of one of those children's novels that Kirsty hated so much. The lone boy looking out at the prospect of adventure and fun and possible flesh wounds and almost certain death. It couldn't end well, he knew that from experience.

"What are you looking at?"

Jonas looked up. It was good to see a familiar face.

"Hey Johnny," Jonas looked back out. "I'm looking at the other island. What do you think is there?"

"Honestly?" He looked out at it for a moment. "Nasty things. Lots of adventures. More nasty things. Death."

"You think?" Jonas remained seated. The prospect of the island's dangers felt different to him. "I think that's exciting." He laughed at himself. Normally, Jonas would prefer reading but something about the arrival of the new island brought about change in him.

"I sort of want to explore it." He paused. "Only sort of, though. I think there are dangerous things there. Maybe zombies. I've read about zombies and discussed them with some adults here. They don't think zombies are real." He looked at Jonny and gave a brief laughter of disbelief. "Can you imagine them not believing in zombies?"
