"This is not the military," she told the line of what she was thinking of as recruits, no matter their individual experience. It didn't matter any more, wasn't that what everyone kept saying about this place? "If this was the military, I or someone like me would have you all day, every day. So you might want to be glad this isn't the military."

Sharon had kept in shape on the island. She ran, every day. She did pull-ups. She did push-ups. It didn't matter if it never got put to use, or that she had a child. What mattered was that the island had physically weakened her, and she had long since resolved not to let it bring her down.

All of that helped, but she was not prepared for this. By the time Kendra was finished, she's worked up a sweat and would probably ache just about everywhere the next morning.

Felt good to be doing something, though.
