I don't know but I've been told

"This is not the military," she told the line of what she was thinking of as recruits, no matter their individual experience. It didn't matter any more, wasn't that what everyone kept saying about this place? "If this was the military, I or someone like me would have you all day, every day. So you might want to be glad this isn't the military." ( Read more... )

The drills were nothing quite what he'd ever seen before, though Glenn had been under the command of others long enough to know not to question such things. He simply went along with it, pushing his body harder than he'd had in months, and the result was the familiar ache in his bones that he only realized then he missed. It had been a long time since he felt a sense of belonging anywhere, and this was giving him that already.

After the training, he mulled about the area once he retrieved his sword. He wiped the sweat from his brow with the back of his hand, and eyed the water for a moment. Perhaps he would take a dip soon, to cool himself off.

Robb lifts a hand to Glenn in a sort of wave, dropping his sword onto the sand and peeling off his sticky, damp shirt. "I'm for a dip in the sea, if you're interested."

Glenn could certainly not pass up the offer. He pulled off the dark shirt he had on - clothes he did not often wear, but it had been what they had asked people to wear - and moved to stand next to him.

"Ye have read mine mind, friend," he laughed, motioning to lead on.

The ensemble is odd for Robb, too, who normally runs around the island in worn-out jeans and unbuttoned cotton shirts. He grins at Glenn and starts toward the water. "It feels good to work that hard."

Jack couldn't have worn a brighter smile. After the initial panic of 'what the fuck did I do this to myself again for', he delved in and savored every moment. He pushed himself, but it was nothing like this.

Plus, the woman in charge was hot. He almost envied the person who got her boot on his back.

He sat for a bit, sweating and getting his body back to normal. Stretch, lean, sweat. This was more fun than hitting dino territory armed to the teeth.

Still damp from his short wash in the ocean, Arthur nodded a greeting to Jack and sat down beside him. The ache in his body was familiar yet strange, concentrated in places rather than all over.

"You looked to be enjoying yourself," he observed wryly, his breath having returned to him.

"Oh, yeah," he agreed with a nod. He might hurt later, but it was nothing he wouldn't be able to stand. Besides, he had a date to look forward to.

"Little bit harder than it was at seventeen, but still just as much fun. How about you, Arthur?"

"Harder than at seventeen," he agreed with a small smile. "But we trained differently from this. I'm not sure I've ever run as much in battle as I did today, and I know for certain that I never did a.. sit up."

His shoulders lifted in a scant shrug. "Different can be good. I've learned that."

Casey had been out on his own, in one undercover assignment after another, for a long, long time. Boot camp, however, had been one of the best times of him life. This was fun.

He stretched out, feeling good in a way he hadn't in a while. Bartowski was too easy an assignment, and he'd been getting soft. But now he felt like part of a unit again, and it was great. He hoped his fellow recruits were worthy of this new branch of defense, even if they were just defending a crazy island.

Alice was more out of shape than she'd thought. By the end of the session she ached in places that she wasn't sure were supposed to ache and her hair was plastered to her forehead with sweat. Apparently, daily jogs just weren't going to cut it. She definitely needed to start working out properly again.

It was amazing how fit fighting undead kept you, and now without them, she was a wreck.

It was a nasty thought.

After all was said and done, she fell back to the fringe of the little group and set to stretching her sore muscles and regaining her breath. Bent over with her hands braced on her knees, she grinned at the horizon.

Looked like things weren't going to be all that boring any more.

The T-1000 had, technically speaking, served in a military force. But he had never been a soldier.

After observing the Task Force training exercise for a while, he doubted he could ever be one. At least, not without damaging a few 'commanding officers' along the way.

But people had signed up out of their own free will, and it was their problem if they chose to simply take the abuse. Insulting the IPD as part of a morale building routine, however, was taking it too far.

"Major Shaw," he greeted neutrally, approaching the woman and giving her a thorough visual scan before proceeding. "Were you insinuating that the IPD can't run?" There might have been a flicker of a smile accompanying the question, but it was well concealed.

Kendra looked up from her notetaking to give the man a cursory once over, responding once she was looking down again. "I wouldn't know," she said, crisply. "I imagine they could. I've yet to see it, however."

"There are rarely situations that require it," the T-1000 countered plainly, gaze flickering to clipboard briefly. "Running all the time is just a waste of energy."

He kept a still position, a straight posture - not a military stance, but the kind he often employed while engaging in IPD business.

"It's not as if you have an unlimited supply of it."

"The supply becomes even more limited if you never exercise," Kendra murmured, looking up from the clipboard to survey the group. "Not running regularly is a good way to ensure you can't, when it becomes necessary."
