The Vision's debut

There is nothing more confounding than the concept of causality. Seemingly, the smallest bits of events made the largest impact, whereas the larger things only came of those smaller events. His friend and compatriot Clint would have put it into simpler terms, merely saying something along the way of "shit seems to snowball downhill ( Read more... )

"Lost?" God, Alice was turning into a regular Good Samaritan. Wandering the jungle herding lost sheep. Hopefully she wouldn't get shot in the back for her trouble. It had happened before, a lifetime ago in that TV station - but she doubted this man, standing there looking bewildered, was concealing some kind of trap.

She supposed she didn't present a very reassuring image - ruffled hair, tattered coat, guns visible in their holsters. But hey, it wasn't like she had a uniform or anything.

The Vision turned, craning his neck towards the disturbance he'd heard. Odd--scanning systems seemed to be offline. Discarding this fact for now, he looked and evaluated the woman carefully. She was slightly taller than he, and had more artillery than a small weapons stockhold on her body. Despite this, the look in her eyes showed a ray of what looked to be sincerity.

"Affirmative," he replied simply. "It seems I....have found myself in an area vastly different than my previous location."

Well, that was a longwinded way of saying 'yes'.

"A newbie, huh?" Alice smiled. "Then I guess this is your lucky day. I'm Alice. I'm an officer of the IPD here, so I guess it's my duty to say...welcome to the island of Tabula Rasa."

She might as well just get a badge that said 'Official Island Greeting Committee' and be done with it.

"Tabula Rasa?" he inquired, his confusion highly apparent on his face. Never in his life had he heard of such a place. Scanning of radio and wi-fi signals seemed to be useless here. All his functions seemed to be nullified at the moment, excepting speech, motor, and reasoning. Very disturbing. "I have never heard of such a place. Where is it?"

Causality. Adam was a living, breathing, immortal nightmare of the worst consequences of causality. He personally wouldn't use such a harsh term, but he was sure Hiro would have.

He'd never much cared for the concept of causality himself. If they couldn't kill him, he doubted they could wipe out his existence, either. Hiro'd certainly tried that already, hadn't he? But such thought was not appropriate for the day.

He really wasn't up to it, at any rate. The injuries from the temple expedition two weeks before still distracted his efforts at normal interaction, and the need to stay away from anyone who would attempt to interfere--especially those who seemed to always find a way to run into him--put even more of a crimp on what he could do while recovering.

So it was no surprise when he found himself wandering through an indistinct part of the forest, where he was fairly certain no one he knew resided.

Thus, it followed that it was no surprise to see someone unfamiliar ahead, staring around at the trees in silent contemplation. ( ... )

Karen crouches in the dirt and the leaves and stuff and watches the man appear out of nowhere. He looks a bit like Shadow (no hair) and Karen trails her hands through the dirt and watches him, with her head tilted on one side. At home, she isn't allowed to talk to strangers, but the rules are different here, and, for a moment, she just watches him.

He looks a bit like Shadow, only, not as tall.

Stealth was much more difficult to maintain on the back of the chocobo than on foot, but sometimes walking the same old paths and climbing the same old trees was just so monotonous that she could cry. Thus, Yuffie didn't really plan on sneaking up on anyone-- especially not suddenly appearing guys. Whoa.

She pulled Cloud up short with a click of her tongue.

"Hi!"

The Vision snapped his head around, his senses suddenly on high alert. He calmed however, when he saw the overtly cheery girl riding on the back of a monstrous....bird-creature. He studied her calculatedly, noting the girls mannerisms, scanning for weapons. After finding nothing, he nodded to her quietly.

"Greetings."

"Greetings? For real? Oh my gawd, are you like, a robot?" It wasn't supposed to be an offensive question. Yuffie just came off that way, from years of practice. "Either that or you're fresh blood. 'cept if you're a robot, I guess you're not really blood, huh? Hey, I knew a giant stuffed living moogle once! Sneaky bastard, that guy."

"Yes, I am, as a matter of fact," he informed the girl. "Though it seems that this island is interfering with some of my finer functions." He looked around for a moment before continuing. "I am also what you would call 'fresh blood.'
