There is nothing more confounding than the concept of causality. Seemingly, the smallest bits of events made the largest impact, whereas the larger things only came of those smaller events. He'd never much cared for the concept of causality himself. If they couldn't kill him, he doubted they could wipe out his existence, either. Hiro'd certainly tried that already, hadn't he? But such thought was not appropriate for the day.
He really wasn't up to it, at any rate. The injuries from the temple expedition two weeks before still distracted his efforts at normal interaction, and the need to stay away from anyone who would attempt to interfere--especially those who seemed to always find a way to run into him--put even more of a crimp on what he could do while recovering.
So it was no surprise when he found himself wandering through an indistinct part of the forest, where he was fairly certain no one he knew resided.
Thus, it followed that it was no surprise to see someone unfamiliar ahead, staring around at the trees in silent contemplation. ( ... )
