"Zarquon! Did you know I was really getting worried about the population of this place? Seriously, man. Way too many humans for comfort." He'd already slipped into Cardassian. It wasn't one of his favorite languages and his accent needed work, but it was nice to get the chance to speak it.

Still, politeness was required, and it was very nice to hear his own language, if a bit badly spoken.
"I'm sorry, I think you've mistaken me for someone else," he replied politely, inclining his head in the traditional courtly nod.

"I have recently arrived, as a matter of fact," he replied equally pleasantly, noting that the man spoke laconically, which further cemented the freighter captain idea. "Only this afternoon. It's quite a lot to take in."

She forgot all about her sewing plans, however, as was so startled by the man's - at least, she thought it was a man, but she wasn't at all certain - appearance that she made a small, startled noise and clapped her hands to her mouth. She had never seen anyone before with such an appearance, and though it was terribly rude, she couldn't help but stare.

"My apologies, madam. I did not mean to startle you," he addressed her courteously, adding a courtly nod to complete the impression.

"I arrived just today, actually. And I've been told that it's an island in the middle of literally nowhere." He was becoming more and more convinced that for now, this might actually be true, though he certainly wasn't going to assume it to be true tomorrow.

"Knowing how to survive is an admirable skill," he replied sincerely, addressing her as an adult. She seemed to be around the Age of Emergence, which meant she was an adult, or was learning to be one. "I have found it to be much preferable to the alternative."
