This day had been far more eventful than Garak had originally thought it would be.  Instead of spending his afternoon cutting fabric for the dress Ensign Williams had commissioned, he'd landed on an island, and to add to the situation, it was apparently an island that defied all explanation, logical or otherwise.    Oh, certainly, Dr. Bashir had ( Read more... )

Adam would have killed for a needle and thread. Ever since the unfortunate tumble, his shirt seemed to have taken a liking to snagging on anything it could manage, and widening the tear. It was getting to the point that it was making him look like a ruffian. He'd always prided himself on being able to preserve an immaculate appearance, no matter the situation. But no...the island had electricity and an endless supply of bad songs, but it couldn't be bothered with basic necessities.

Adam was considering tossing the blue shirt entirely, but walking around the island half naked would project the wrong air. What was really the worst the island clothe box could throw at him? An over-sized Hawaiian print?

He might not have noticed the random unfamiliar passerby...if he weren't draconicAdam halted in his meandering toward his hut, and stared at the man a moment. Of the many genetic mutations he had seen over his years, he had never yet seen one quite so extreme. Perhaps he was something entirely different, then ( ... )

The large tear in the man's otherwise suitable blue shirt made Garak absolutely itch to fix it. He had his kit clipped at his waist under his tunic in case of any unfortunate incidents as he explored, but humans did not tend to find random acts of tailoring to be particularly polite, so he restrained himself.

"Good afternoon," he greeted the man pleasantly, ignoring the stare. It was actually less a intense one than several he'd received so far.

He nodded at the...man. There were few things he had not seen in his four centuries. Naturally, anything that he hadn't would interest him. "I don't think I've seen you around before." Which was just a wordy way of asking whether he were new.

"I sincerely doubt that you have," he replied amiably, easily finding the question in the man's polite statement and noting the continuing shrewdness of his gaze as well as the general quality of the man's clothes, other than the torn shirt.

"I only arrived this afternoon." Even this was not entirely the truth, as arriving somewhere had connotations of having left somewhere else, and Garak was still not convinced that he had done so. There were some very talented holoartists in various non-Federation worlds who were certainly capable of this sort of creation.

And that was something that Trance hadn't seen in a very long time. An actual alien. Oh, the Doctor wasn't human and he had the two hearts to prove it, but he looked human. This man definitely did not.

"Afternoon," she said with a smile.

Poor man would probably get as many questions about his skin as she had about hers.

The woman was an absolutely lovely shade of purple, almost the same shade as one of the varieties of kanar, and Garak smiled a little wider. She was dressed in bright, form fitting clothing that somehow managed to avoid either clashing with her skin or making her resemble one of Quark's dabo girls.

"Good afternoon," he greeted her, adding her general appearance to his list of those who were not humans.

"Now I know I'd have seen you before, since most of the people here were human before coming here and all of them are human now, so you must be new." Trance held out her hand. "I'm Trance Gemini."

She was pretty sure he wasn't a species she'd encountered before and she wondered if his insides were human normal or not. She'd have to remember to ask him at some point. Just as a baseline so that they knew what was normal for him and what wasn't.

She hadn't ever seen someone who looked completely different than humans did. She and Elphaba were just different colors.

Garak doubted he was human, unless humans suddenly began to include those who were uncharitably called "grey and scaly" by other humans, but the woman's statement was certainly something to consider and perhaps ask the doctor about.

"I am in fact new, madam," he replied amiably, letting none of those thoughts show on his face as he shook her hand. Such a strange human custom, but one he'd had to learn. "I arrived just this afternoon."
