"Good morning, Chris," she said sweetly as she looked up and acted as if she'd just seen him, her face lighting up into a brilliant smile.

Still, that wasn't any of River's business, when she didn't even know this boy (who looked like Neil, which barely deserved comment when she was pretty used to that kind of weirdness). So she just said, "Good morning." because that seemed like the polite thing to do. It was early yet.

"Hey, Helen...Hey..." I never know if I've forgotten names or if I've really never met someone so I just kind of say hi, and smile at her.
"Nice morning, huh?"

"All right, then, if you seem to have so many exciting things to do, why don't you pick where we go next?" she said to River, crossing her arms across her front.

A few seconds later, there was the sound of claws on the floor and a somewhat scruffy and very mixed-breed dog trotted obediently into the kitchen, his tail waving like a flag behind him.
"Simon Chicago needs a walk."

"Fine," was all she finally said, practically forcing the word out, and wondered just how long she'd be able to maintain the veil of civility.

"Go on, Simon," River said, pointing toward the door. "We'll follow you."
She did follow, and when they were outside she blinked in the sunlight and tried to pretend that her current human companion was either someone else or not there at all.
