Actually, I quit. No one takes my frock.

There were only so many things to do in a day, and Jack had done most of them. Most. Sure, he'd missed out on some expert flirting, and the bookshelf had decided he needed books about what to do when the honeymoon was over and coping with memory loss. Those, and one can of film.

He'd seen it. It really wasn't his shining moment, but it was...well ( Read more... )

"Jack," Daniel said, walking into the room and smiling. His smile faltered a little when he noticed the screen. "And Jack. You're dancing and...is that Big Ben?" He supposed it shouldn't really surprise him. The Doctor always seemed to get everywhere.

Except...Rose didn't seem to recognize Jack.

"When is this?" he asked, sitting on the arm of the couch next to Jack.

"Hey, hi," he smiled as he pointed at the screen. "This is the show that isn't Torchwood. The one about the Doctor. Specifically, it's when I nearly wiped out the human race and met them."

"Yes, I remember her from the last time we..." Daniel looked down at Jack, blinking. After a minute, he shrugged. "Well, I suppose we all have our moments." He turned his eyes back to the screen. "I see your flirting skills haven't improved."

"No reason to improve on perfection," he chuckled. "What's up?"

Attracted to the rec room by the passingly familiar dialogue and the very familiar voice, Ianto popped in just as Jack appeared on the screen, straddling a rather large missile.

"Even you have to admit," he said, gently chiding as he strolled in and sat himself next to Jack, "That that was a bit much."

As soon as he had settled, one small dog trotted into the room, having been distracted by an interesting smell in the hallway, but eager to find her master once again. Finding Jack as well, she eagerly stood up on her hind legs to lean her paws on his knees.

"Oh, come on," Jack laughed. "I'm sure the sybolism was lost on the viewing public."

He reached down and pushed the pup off his leg absently. "You've got to admit, I look good, even riding a bomb."

Ianto lifted an incredulous eyebrow but shook his head. "You always look good," he replied. "That's not the point. Do you really have to make such a show about saving the world?" The question was meant to be as playfully teasing as a sentence could be, but delivered in Ianto's rather dry tone.

Banon, though enthusiastic and young, was not dumb and seeing she would receive no succor from Jack, she immediately sought attention at Ianto's knees. He, of course, picked her up and let her burrow between the cushions of the sofa away from Jack.

"It's hard being this dashing and brave," he laughed. It was hard to take himself seriously, to be honest. He really didn't know what had possessed him to decide to sacrifice himself for the earth. He could have dropped that bomb someplace, but no. He'd kept it in stasis and flew into space. Idiotic.

"How's things?"

Karen peers over the back of the couch behind the man and watches Doctor Who. Karen loves Doctor Who. She watches it after her bath, and she's allowed to stay up on a Saturday, and Rose is her favourite. Karen wants to be Rose when she grows up, even now she's met her.

She makes a little excited noise.

ShorHor isn't as good at being quiet as Karen and starts trying to eat the bottom of the man's troubles.

Jack looked over his shoulder at the sound and smiled at the little girl. Cute. Tiny, but cute.

"Hello," he said, warm and casual.

Karen's mouth drops open. It's really him. It's really him.

"It's you," she blurts out. "Oh...my...God."

He flashed a broad smile and nodded to the couch. "It is. Captain Jack Harkness...what's your name?"

"I'm looking for a blonde in a Union Jack," a voice said behind him,, in unison with the completely different man on screen, but with oddly the same tone of voice. "I mean a specific one--I didn't just wake up this morning with a craving."

All right, maybe the same tone of voice with a slightly quirky grin.

Jack didn't even turn his head, but his smile grew wide and bright.

"Who looks at a screwdriver and says 'This could be more sonic?'"

"What, you've never been bored? Never had a long night? Never had a lot of cabinets to put up?" the Doctor replied, accent now almost clipped and Northern.
