Nor the Doctor to the Island?

If I hadn't been at the conference myself I wouldn't have believed it.  My paper had caused such a stir - thankfully it was nothing like the time that Dr Bodet suggested that plasma burns could be as effectively treated with homeopathy, god knows I don't need to see that kind of in-fighting again, but it wasn't quite received in the way I ( Read more... )

Ando stares at the uniform. That's all he does for a full minute is stare at it. He's seen enough Star Trek with Hiro to know what's up and where it's from, but he still can't believe it.

He grins and jogs over to him. "Hello," he says, almost positive that this man probably won't speak Japanese. "Can I help you?" There's a stupid grin on his face and he's trying to hide it, but he's just can't wait to tell Hiro.

At first I was relieved that there was someone else on the beach, someone who might have some answers, but then I realised that he was staring at my uniform. Why is this person staring at my uniform like that with a giant grin?

"Hello, I hope so. I was trying to transport down from my runabout to Ajilon Prime but I seem to have been redirected somehow. Where am I?" I look down at my uniform, but I still can't see why it would garner such a reaction. "Is there something on my uniform?"

"Ah," Ando intones and the grin fades into something else. Of course he would have to be the bearer of bad news. He just hoped this man would not use the death grip on him for it. "You are on an island, sir. A...strange place that pulls people from anywhere in time and space," he explains and then gestures to the communications device in the man's hand. "That probably will not do you much good."

The fact I'm on an island seems pretty obvious, considering the beach and the palm trees in the distance and all. But where is the island? How far from Jake have I been pulled?

"Which planet is the island on?" I ask, pressing my communicator every 5 seconds or so. A signal might get through, and I would very much like to hear Jake's voice. I'm hopeful that this is just some misunderstanding, but I've also read about enough transport accidents to know that I may be in some very deep trouble.

"Hullo," Ace said cheerfully, her jacket hanging over her shoulder from her fingers. She wasn't much made for talking to bewildered looking strangers, but she was feeling nice today. "Are you new, then?" She stuck out her free hand - it was a good thing to make a Gesture, at the very least. Very important, that.

"I'm Ace. It's nice to meet you."

Despite everything Ando had told me, I was somehow not expecting to actually run into anyone else. Not that being suddenly confronted by an attractive woman is necessarily a bad thing.

"Dr. Julian Bashir." I reply, taking her hand. "And you, Ace. I arrived, for lack of a better word, about an hour ago."

She eyed him, trying to figure out how thrown he was. "Look, do you want some tea or anything?" Her mouth quirked into a half-smile.

"Or coffee. I know someone who makes the best." She shoved her hair back out of her face with a hand, swinging her jacket to hang over her arm.

I have to smile at the suggestion of coffee, my last cup was hours ago. "Coffee would be great, thank you. Lead the way."

I'm feeling a little uncertain of my surroundings, but I'm fairly confident that the crew on the station are going to figure out where I am and how to rescue me. What I dont know is how long I might be here before they do. It's entirely possible that time moves differently here, who knows how much time has passed in the real world? They could beam me up any moment.

"Where are you from, Ace?"

Six sat gazing over the beach and into the horizon. The sun was beginning to set, and she reflected for a moment on the glory of God. He had put such beauty in the world, and such horror.

"All of this has happened before," she murmured. A figure appeared around the bend of the shore. She stood quickly, straining to see him better. For a moment, he looked--

Tears came to her eyes. It wasn't him after all.

She looked so peaceful sitting there, for a moment I considered leaving her to her thoughts. But then she stood up and she seemed to, I don't know she seemed disappointed?

"Hello." I'm speaking quietly, it's obvious that she is upset. "I'm Julian. Are you alright?"

She blinked, smiling. "Yes, thank you. I'm Caprica."

Up close, he bore only a small resemblance to Gaius. But she had been here just long enough to know what a new arrival looked like. "Forgive me for asking, but have you just arrived?"

"Nice to meet you Caprica." I smile and extend my hand.

"Yes, I arrived a short time ago. I've been having a bit of a look around before I head to the...compound? I think that's what it was called. I haven't seen a real sunset in quite awhile."
